Perhaps not expecting Mo Shisheng to do this, Lingying paused slightly, then pursed her lips, nodded, and turned to leave.
As night fell, Mo Shisheng went to Bei Rao's room.
It wasn't because Lingying's words had any effect, but rather because she originally wanted to visit Bei Rao, but Lingying just happened to show up at this crucial moment.
"I thought you weren't used to it here."
Upon seeing Mo Shisheng arrive, Bei Rao's eyes lit up with joy, and she quickly poured a glass of water for Mo Shisheng and placed it on the table.
As the cold winter gradually receded, Mo Shisheng's gaze fell upon the desolate scene outside the window.
After a long silence, Mo Shisheng finally spoke softly, "There's nothing I'm used to or not used to. It's just that I've been to so many places over the years, and I have some feelings about it."
These words might have been just an unintentional remark to Mo Shisheng, but to Bei Rao, they were heartbreaking.
The joy in her eyes gradually faded, replaced by a hint of heartache. Perhaps it was because her gaze was too intense that Mo Shisheng couldn't ignore it, and when she turned her head, she met Bei Rao's eyes.
She sighed softly, her tone tinged with helplessness, "I was just expressing my feelings, you don't need to think about it so much."
"But ultimately it's my fault for not being able to protect you." Bei Rao shook her head, trying to smile to ease Mo Shisheng's worries. But the smile that appeared on her lips was bitter. "If I weren't so weak-willed, you wouldn't have suffered so much."
"If someone is plotting against you, you can't escape it."
Mo Shisheng reached out and warmed the cup in her hands, watching the steam slowly rise from it. "Perhaps this is the best, after all, I'm back now, aren't I?"
"But I still feel uneasy."
Bei Rao frowned and voiced her concerns, "Bei Chen always leaves himself many options in everything he does. I have a feeling that it's not that simple that he was caught so easily this time."
Upon hearing this, Mo Shisheng calmly raised her eyes to look at Bei Rao opposite her, her worry clearly visible on her face.
Mo Shisheng couldn't help but think of her father. Perhaps she inherited her personality from him. She really was nothing like Bei Rao, except for her appearance.
Mo Shisheng had thought of this the moment she caught Bei Chen, but Bei Rao must have known him well after spending so much time with him.
Thinking of this, Mo Shisheng felt that the water in the cup was getting cold, so she picked it up and drank it all.
"A cunning rabbit has three burrows; Bei Chen is even more cunning than a rabbit. How could he not have left himself a way out?"
Mo Shisheng said softly, "You don't need to worry too much. The most important thing is for you to get well."
“You’re back, and I’m feeling much better than before.”
Bei Rao smiled and reached out to hold Mo Shisheng's hand, but frowned slightly at the coldness of his palm. "Why are your hands so cold?"
"fine."
Mo Shisheng gently withdrew her hand. "I'm going to visit Shangguan Yue later. Don't let what happened in the palace get out during this time."
"Isn't this too unfair to you?" Bei Rao's tone was tinged with heartache, as if she felt that Mo Shisheng's decision was somewhat inappropriate. "You finally recognized me, are you really going to let someone of unknown origin usurp your identity?"
"We've come this far, so what's the present?"
Mo Shisheng said gently, "Isn't Mother Beichen cunning? Let's play along this time."
