The major families united

An unknown amount of time passed before Xi Chen slowly lowered his hands from the barrier. His face was several times paler than before. "I'm sorry," Xi Chen turned and said to everyone.

Seeing that Xi Chen couldn't break the barrier, the people around him became even more discouraged, and for a while, the air was filled with cries of grief.

"Nephew Xi, don't worry too much." The old man slowly appeared beside Xi Chen. "The runes on it are too complex, and the power of the barrier is too strong. Sigh, if your father were still alive, he might not be able to decipher it."

Xi Chen shook his head, his face paling even more. To break this barrier, you had to expend equal strength and constantly worry about the barrier backlash. Only those who had experienced it could understand the pain. Furthermore, most of the people present had just been attacked by spirit beasts and were simply too weak to break the barrier.

"Really, you can't see through it?" Dongcheng Yao stepped forward and patted Xi Chen on the shoulder.

"I'm not proficient in the art of setting up barriers either." Xi Chen shook his head helplessly with a pale face.

"But... speaking of the one who is proficient in barriers, there is only..." Dongcheng Yao touched his chin and did not continue.

Xi Chen smiled faintly. He didn't ask who Dong Chengyao was referring to, but he clearly knew. "Since the second barrier is intact, we can only rely on the protection of the first barrier. For now, we will unite to fight the enemy."

Dongcheng Yao nodded. "I have no objection." He looked around, and everyone agreed. After all, until a better solution was found, it would be best to stabilize the situation and avoid any internal conflicts before the spirit beast attack. Everyone had already thought about this, so when the Dongcheng and Xi families agreed to join forces, everyone nodded in agreement without hesitation.

With a disdainful sneer at these people, Dongcheng Yao turned back to the unbroken barrier. Glowing runes flickered faintly in the air. This mysterious barrier had silently protected its interior for centuries, allowing this ancient place to survive to this day, unmolested by spirit beasts.

Yawning slowly, Dongcheng Yao couldn't help but complain, "I originally thought I could come and join in the fun. If I had known it wouldn't be this good, I might as well have called a few girls to play in my little building."

This damned monster, what's the point of doing something serious? Su Yin, who was standing not far behind Xi Chen, heard it all and couldn't help but twitch his lips. Giving Dong Chengyao another disdainful look, Su Yin turned to look at Xi Chen again, only to see that Xi Chen paid no attention to Dong Chengyao's words. He was silently frowning and looking up into the air, clearly still studying the second layer of the barrier.

Xi Chen gently reached out and touched the circular light circle, and the faint words on the barrier emerged. "The spiritual arts of our ancestors have long been lost. If you don't know the way, you don't know how to break it."

"Oh, if I had known earlier, I should have learned the art of setting up barriers." The safe place was right in front of him, but he couldn't open it. Dongcheng Yao could only complain helplessly.

"It's okay. If we unite as one, we can temporarily deal with the attack of the spirit beasts." Xi Chen smiled and comforted.

"Come on." Dongcheng Yao said disdainfully, "Relying on those fence-sitters?"

Dong Chengyao whispered, "Before, it was just because of the families' pride. In this world, numbers are never enough. When the truly strong clash, no matter how many people there are, the result is the same. The weak are completely powerless under the control of the strong."
