Chapter 102 Dream Talk
Finally, before sunrise, Yan Sheng and his group managed to reach the small house.
Relaxed, Tokito Ichiro didn't care about the dust. After being put down by Iwakatsu, he plopped down on the bedding. Iwakatsu glanced at him and said in a calm voice.
"Shoes...take them off."
"knew."
Tokito Ichiro knew Iwakatsu well; he had come to understand Iwakatsu's meticulous manner over the past few months. He casually took off his shoes and socks and put them away neatly before collapsing onto the quilt.
He turned and glanced at Yoriichi Tsugikuni, who was putting down bamboo baskets, then looked at Iwakatsu, who had taken off his clogs and was sitting next to the quilt, and yawned as he spoke to him.
"Brother, I'm going to sleep."
"Um."
Iwakatsu nodded in response, watching as Tokito Ichiro instantly fell asleep after receiving the reply. He reached out and covered the other's stomach, thinking that he would definitely envy the speed at which he fell asleep.
Yoriichi Tsugikuni, who had placed the bamboo basket at the door, knelt down opposite Iwakatsu, his gaze heavy as he watched the other's actions. Iwakatsu glanced uncomfortably at Yoriichi, and seeing the other's drooping head, he felt even more nauseous.
"what?"
Yan Sheng frowned and asked. He felt soft-hearted when he saw Yoriichi Tsugikuni like this because he really looked too much like a puppy.
Yoriichi Tsugikuni remained silent, his gaze shifting to Tokito Ichiro, who was leaning against Iwakatsu's knees. The other man was asleep, and Yoriichi wondered if he would disturb him.
Yan Sheng tilted his head, puzzled. He could sense that the other person was very tired, which made him feel strange. He was a demon, so he didn't need to rest, but the other person was human now, right? Wasn't he sleepy?
"Um, elder brother, do you remember now?"
Looking at Iwakatsu's appearance, Yoriichi Tsugikuni recalled their time together in the Demon Slayer Corps and felt a little dazed. He noticed that Iwakatsu wasn't as hostile towards him as before and asked with some anticipation.
"..." Ah, I've been sleeping for too long and forgotten my character.
Iwakatsu rubbed his forehead. It seemed he could only come up with an excuse. He looked at Yoriichi Tsugikuni, who was staring at him, and his lips moved slightly.
"I had some dreams while I was still asleep, but that doesn't mean anything."
Yan Sheng turned his head and coldly replied that there was still a storyline for him as Upper Moon One. If he remembered, there were only two possibilities: the traitorous boss or being completely hunted down by Yoriichi Tsugikuni.
"I see, elder brother. I will always stay with you."
Yoriichi was a little disappointed. He had thought that Iwakatsu had remembered, but he knew that the chances were slim and had prepared himself mentally. He looked at Iwakatsu and felt relieved. As long as his older brother was alright, that was all that mattered. He could take his time with his memory.
There's no need for that.
Yan Sheng frowned even more deeply upon hearing this. He had no desire to have anything to do with Yoriichi Tsugikuni at all. He wanted to find a chance to get rid of that old man from 1008 after he finished questioning him.
Yoriichi suddenly felt dizzy, his vision blurred, and he felt extremely tired. He hadn't rested for several days in a row, but he was afraid to fall asleep now, afraid that he would wake up and become a person again.
Yan Sheng glanced at him, then looked around, but found nothing else. The house was small, containing only a bed and some simple furnishings, some of which were dusty. Having no other option, Yan Sheng abandoned the idea of asking the other to sleep elsewhere.
"You should go to sleep too."
After finishing speaking, Iwakatsu patted the empty seat in front of him. He didn't want Yoriichi Tsugikuni to die suddenly in front of him due to lack of sleep. He saw Yoriichi Tsugikuni barely lift his head, his eyes staring at him without blinking.
"Brother, can I lean on you?"
"Ichika Tsugikuni said in a low voice, thinking that even if he fell asleep, Iwakatsu would still know when he wanted to leave."
"No." Don't push your luck.
Yan Sheng didn't want to get too close to him. Although he sometimes felt sorry for him, he still felt uncomfortable seeing the other's expressionless face.
"All right."
Yoriichi lay down in disappointment. He quietly grabbed the corner of Iwakatsu's kimono with one hand and slowly closed his eyes. Although the space was cramped, it made him feel at ease.
finally
Iwakatsu felt that nothing in his life had been as terrifying as the moment he saw Yoriichi Tsugikuni. Taking advantage of the fact that the two of them were behaving themselves, Iwakatsu did not hesitate to contact 1008.
"Honey, can you explain this to me?"
Upon hearing the voice responding in his mind, Yan Sheng asked with a forced smile.
When 1008 saw that Yoriichi Tsugikuni was also speechless, it felt that its own code was about to become disordered. After a long silence, it asked uncertainly.
"Honey, could this be a hallucination?"
What do you think?
Yan Sheng was so angry he almost laughed. He wished it was all an illusion, even more than the sixth brother.
1008 suddenly went silent; it's in the wrong now. How could this happen? It doesn't even know what's going on.
"Let me check again. There must be something wrong. Please wait a moment."
1008 searched through everything but couldn't find the reason. Frustrated, it decided to look elsewhere, so it could only give Yan Sheng a perfunctory answer before quickly leaving.
"Tsk..." Useless thing
Iwakatsu scratched his head, feeling incredibly annoyed by Yoriichi Tsugikuni's sleeping face; he hated the unexpected.
——
The moment Yoriichi Tsugikuni opened his eyes, he saw Iwakatsu's mimicking face. This sleeping face, which he had seen for many years, made Yoriichi's heart skip a beat. He quickly sat up and looked around, seeing Tokito Ichiro practicing outside.
It seems my elder brother has fallen asleep sometime ago.
Yoriichi Tsugikuni thought for a moment. In his mind, demons didn't seem to need to sleep.
"Brother..."
He watched, then unconsciously reached out and carefully touched Iwakatsu, calling his name softly. Yoriichi Tsugikuni knew that Iwakatsu was a light sleeper; he had noticed this back in the Demon Slayer Corps. But this time, Iwakatsu showed no signs of waking up; he could only see the other man move slightly before falling silent again.
Just as Yoriichi Tsugikuni was wondering if his action of getting up would wake Iwakatsu, he heard a faint murmur.
"Why……"
A muffled voice came from behind him. Yoriichi looked down at Iwakatsu and saw him frown, tears slowly falling from his tightly closed eyes, and his body involuntarily curling up.
Why... did you leave...?
Yoriichi Tsugikuni couldn't hear clearly, so he leaned down closer to Iwakatsu, his hand involuntarily touching the corner of Iwakatsu's eye. Iwakatsu, asleep, was completely unaware. Perhaps because of meeting Yoriichi Tsugikuni, he dreamt of past events, or rather, memories of another version of himself.
He couldn't move in his dream, and no sound came out no matter how hard he opened his mouth. Like someone with aphasia, he could only stand there and watch the small red figure grow farther and farther away.
When Yoriichi Tsugikuni heard those words clearly this time, his pupils contracted, and he stared at Iwakatsu in a daze, unable to calm down for a long time.
"Why...why...did you leave...why...did you...leave...me...Yoriichi..."
