Chapter 75 Discovery
When Kawakami Akio returned to the Demon Slayer Corps, it was already noon. He dragged his heavy steps forward wearily.
"Qiusheng, what's wrong?"
Rengoku Shujuro saw his childhood friend looking like he was dead and went to help him up to the resting place.
"I'm so hungry—".
Kawakami Akio was on the verge of tears, because he had nothing serious to do, so he refused the help from the Hidden members and planned to return alone.
However, fate is unpredictable. Kawakami Akio discovered that his purse was gone, and his provisions were nowhere to be found. He carefully examined the waist rope he used to hang his purse; the neat scratches could only have one explanation: they were caused by Iwakatsu's attack.
A cruel fate, a tragic life.
Kawakami Akio returned starving, feeling utterly exhausted. He felt like he could eat a whole cow.
Reluctantly, Rengoku Shujuro led the other person to his house, said something to his sister who opened the door, and then carried the half-dead Kawakami Akio to his room.
"Waaaaah, the ramen is so delicious!"
Kawakami Akio ate voraciously with tears in his eyes, and several times he thought he was going to faint from hunger.
Seeing that the other person had already eaten four or five bowls, Rengoku Shujuro quickly stopped him from eating any more. This person's appetite was only a little over three bowls, and continuing to eat would cause problems.
"Xiujuro, I met Iwakatsu and Tsugikuni Yoriichi this time."
Kawakami Akio wiped his mouth, then picked up a teacup and started gulping down the tea. He had eaten too fast and almost choked to death.
"Um?"
Rengoku Shujuro looked at him curiously. Meeting him wasn't strange, but he didn't expect him to bring it up suddenly.
"Yoichi Tsugikuni did not want to kill Iwakatsu."
"Of course, they are twins. And Yoriichi has always cared a lot about Iwakatsu."
Kawakami Akio fell silent; he had always assumed that Yoriichi and Iwakatsu didn't get along. Rengoku Shujuro sighed and patted Kawakami Akio on the shoulder.
"Go see Yu Hai when you have time; his left eye is beyond saving."
"What?"
“Last time, he got a foreign object in his left eye and suffered a very serious injury. He did his best.”
Rengoku Shujuro shook his head, but this was the best outcome. For members of the Demon Slayer Corps, being alive was already a good thing.
Akio Kawakami also knew that they were always at the forefront, and sometimes it was lucky to just be alive.
"Alright, that's about it. Go and report."
Rengoku Kijuro nudged Kawakami Akio, signaling him to finish eating quickly and stop thinking about anything else. Kawakami Akio stood up, then stopped and turned back, saying seriously to Rengoku Kijuro, "Don't tell anyone else about that."
"good."
——
"Lord Kokushibo, why don't you go out and take a look?"
Mei, who was putting on makeup in front of the dressing table, asked curiously, while Gyutaro behind her carefully combed her long, snow-white hair.
"No... interest".
After a long silence, Yan Sheng finally managed to utter this sentence. He felt that if he went out, he would run into Yoriichi Tsugikuni, so he chose to stay here and watch over the Xie Hua siblings.
"Alright, if you need anything, Lord Kokushibo, you can ask Fuyu. There's a courtesan parade tonight."
Mei didn't ask any more questions, but instead focused on looking at herself in the mirror, carefully examining herself from left to right, and then took off the yellow flower from her hair.
"Brother, this flower isn't pretty. I want the pink one."
Gyutaro nodded, picked a pink peony from the flowers beside him, broke off the overly long stem, and carefully tucked it into his hair.
Yan Sheng watched, and his expression softened considerably. He liked this feeling, the playful banter, just like with his old friends.
"Lord Kokushibo, let's go~".
Mei stood up, her brightly colored kimono spreading out with her movement. She walked towards the door in white tabi socks, and Gyutaro merged into her body from behind.
"Go."
Yan Sheng nodded and continued drinking his tea, watching the door slowly close and the footsteps fade into the distance.
It was unusually quiet when he was alone. Iwakatsu heard the lively sounds outside. Yoshiwara's nights were like this every day, but today it was particularly noisy.
"The courtesan parades through the streets."
Yan Sheng walked to the window and opened the wooden curtain. Below, a crowd of people surged forward. After a long while, Mei appeared with the crowd, standing out among the many courtesans.
Her haughty expression, exquisite features, and fair skin revealed as she walked drew loud shouts from the crowd below.
Mei doesn't seem to be eighteen yet.
Yan Sheng frowned slightly as he looked at the group of greasy men below; he really couldn't accept it.
Honey, you also married a young girl when you were just a teenager.
The voice of 1008 rang in Yan Sheng's mind, startling him.
"Shut up, that's Jiguo Yansheng."
Yan Sheng has been single for over twenty years, with only learning and dreams in his eyes, determined to remain single forever so that his old man will have no descendants.
"Oh... I thought you were going to mess up the plot, but I didn't expect you to not do anything at all."
1008 was all prepared to rebuild, but I didn't expect Yan Sheng to still be diligently completing his task. I almost burst into tears.
"I only do what I feel is right. Going to cause trouble will only make me feel bad and it's also a hassle."
Iwakatsu casually lowered the bamboo curtain. He figured he might as well go back to his room. Anyway, now that only Mei and Gyutaro were left, the task was complete.
"Kuroshibo—".
Iwakatsu's plan to lie dead was thwarted; the scumbag boss was calling him again, and every time he was called, it was never a good thing. Following the open wooden door, Iwakatsu saw Akaza and Muzan Kibutsuji standing on the edge of the cliff.
"Kuroshibo, what do you think would happen if we launched a surprise attack right now?"
Muzan Kibutsuji, still in female form, stood there, looking down at the crowd with a mocking and toying tone.
Yan Sheng had a bad feeling. He took a few steps up and saw the buildings below that were not completely covered. People coming and going were wearing clothes that Yan Sheng was familiar with.
The Demon Slayer Corps? How could it be? No, could it be a branch?
Just as a cunning rabbit has three burrows, so too does the Demon Slayer Corps; this is clearly an unfinished branch of the story. Iwakatsu's eyes darkened; it seemed this place was doomed.
Iwakatsu could see that most of the people walking below were members of the Hidden Squad, and he felt a little sorry for them. Muzan Kibutsuji didn't notice Iwakatsu's emotions and turned to look at Doma, who was slowly walking towards them.
"Oh my, I didn't expect Lord Kokushibo to be here too."
Doma, dragging a woman along, greeted Iwakatsu with a grin. Iwakatsu could see that the woman's clothes, stained with blood, were those of a member of the Hidden Squad.
"Lord Muzan, this beautiful girl seems to know something. I thought capturing her would provide you with useful information."
As he spoke, Doma flung the person he was dragging away, causing the person to cough up blood involuntarily, which stained the ground.
"I resisted the urge to eat her, though~".
Doma said in a troubled tone, blinking at Akaza, which sent a chill down Akaza's spine and made his veins bulge.
Muzan Kibutsuji raised an eyebrow, stepped forward, and inserted his hand into the woman's brain, injecting blood. He intended to read her memories the instant she turned into a demon.
"Aaaaaah—"
Not everyone can withstand the blood of the Ghost King. Yan Sheng watched as the woman mutated and swelled up in just one minute, exploding before he could even react.
"Useless bugs."
Muzan Kibutsuji shook the blood off her hands with annoyance. She had only seen a vague, general piece of information and couldn't be completely sure of the exact location. She would have to investigate for a few more days.
Yan Sheng, who was summoned over and inexplicably sprayed with blood: ...
Muzan Kibutsuji glanced down with disgust, and in order not to alert the enemy, he had no choice but to temporarily abandon the idea of annihilating them.
