Chapter 14, Mission 3 Completed
"Yansheng, have a cup of tea."
Looking at Ubuyashiki Yukio, who had invited him, Iwakatsu showed no reaction. He had known all along that the other would notice. With the ability to foresee the future, how could he not foresee his own death?
Yan Sheng closed his eyes, his face quickly mimicking his human appearance. He slowly opened his phoenix eyes, and seeing that the other party had no reaction, he slowly stepped forward and sat down.
Ubuyashiki Yukio watched Iwakatsu's actions and smiled slightly. He picked up the teacup in front of him. The bandages wrapped around his skin covered almost his entire body. Even the skin that wasn't covered showed some blue veins and scars, making him look quite terrifying and serious.
Yan Sheng didn't speak, but silently picked up the cup of tea. Golden chrysanthemums floated on the water, a few small petals scattering. Yan Sheng took a sip; it had no taste. It seemed that a demon's sense of taste had been severed from all flavors except flesh and blood.
"You...know my...purpose."
After a long silence, Iwakatsu spoke. He felt that his lord, who had always been gentle and polite, was quite mysterious. Based on Iwakatsu's memories of him, he didn't show the same outward hatred for Muzan Kibutsuji as Kagaya Ubuyashiki in the original story. Iwakatsu felt that he was like Yoriichi Tsugikuni in the original story, looking at the world with indifference and detachment.
"I know."
Ubuyashiki Yukio put down his teacup, looked at Iwakatsu, and then stood up. His body was on the verge of death, and even the simple act of standing made him move very slowly.
Iwakatsu waited quietly for him to stand still, looking at the decaying organs beneath the other man's transparent gaze. Iwakatsu looked up at the face that only revealed his nose, jaw, and eyes, and recalled that when Iwakatsu first joined the Ubuyashiki family, this lord, Yukio Ubuyashiki, was still a refined gentleman.
Is it really a curse or a genetic disease? Muzan Kibutsuji's health isn't very good either, so is it really not a family trait? Iwakatsu thought with suspicion.
"No, honey, it's just a setting, but it's true that they're not in good health." 1008's sudden answer startled Yan Sheng, but 1008 continued to bounce around in Yan Sheng's mind, bothering him without his knowledge. This made Yan Sheng directly kick this unreliable yd system away.
“Yan Sheng, you will end my life here, but I have seen that you have also advanced our goal.”
Kill Muzan Kibutsuji
Yukio Ubuyashiki stood there, illuminated by the moonlight, looking intently at Iwakatsu as he spoke, word by word.
"All victories require the accumulation of blood and flesh. All the children in the Demon Slayer Corps are prepared to die, and now it is just a matter of sacrificing one of my dying selves."
Iwakatsu was very familiar with these words, and he always respected people who had such thoughts and actions, no matter when or where.
"I believe in you, Yansheng."
"I see."
Iwakatsu stood up, his height of over 1.9 meters casting a shadow over Ubuyashiki Yuki, blocking out all the moonlight. He slowly drew the Hollow Crying God from his waist; the crimson blade was covered in eyes, which, combined with Iwakatsu's humanoid appearance, gave off an eerie feeling.
"Rest in peace, my lord."
Under the unwavering trust in Ubuyashiki Yukio's gaze, Iwakatsu swung his sword, cleanly severing Yukio's head. Ubuyashiki Yukio's curse was already quite severe; even with a major artery in his neck, the blood flowing was minimal.
"Please get some rest."
Iwakatsu looked at the fallen Ubuyashiki Yuki and sighed softly, seemingly without a sense of unease. He then sheathed his sword at his waist, glanced at the corner of a kimono peeking out from the sliding door, and left through the window without lingering. He finished his chrysanthemum tea.
After a long while, a slight movement came from behind the door, as if to confirm that Yan Sheng had left. A boy with shoulder-length black hair peeked out, and after confirming that no one was there, the door was carefully opened.
A little girl with white hair and teary eyes had her mouth tightly covered by a little boy with black hair. The boy looked around warily before slowly releasing his hand.
The white-haired little girl, having lost her support, collapsed to her knees on the ground, looking at the corpse of Ubuyashiki Yuki on the floor and sobbing.
Her voice was soft, like a kitten's whimper, but this emotion affected the boy who had been trying so hard to remain calm. He bit his lower lip to stop himself from crying out loud, but tears fell unconsciously.
"Sister, don't cry, go find someone to come over."
The boy, his voice trembling with tears, wiped them away forcefully with his sleeve, pulled the girl up, and pushed her out the door. He then turned and carefully tidied the messy room. Looking at her closed head, the boy knew in his heart that this was his father's choice.
Before this, his father had told him that the boy already knew about what happened tonight. Therefore, all he had to do now was follow his father's instructions, become the next master, and inherit the command of the entire Demon Slayer Corps.
——
Kokushi already knew someone was hiding outside the door, so he chose to leave through the window. After all, it wouldn't affect the mission, and he couldn't take down the next Demon Slayer Corps leader as well, otherwise the plot would be difficult to develop.
Yan Sheng brushed off the wisteria petals from his body and only left quickly after his discomfort subsided.
Iwakatsu knew that it wouldn't be long before he was on the Demon Slayer Corps' blacklist. He never imagined that a model young man of the new century, someone who had been on the honor roll since childhood, would one day be on the wanted list, and as a wanted murderer no less.
Life is truly unpredictable, like a large intestine enclosing a small intestine.
Yan Sheng sighed dejectedly, and with a thought, the third prerequisite quest on the transparent blue screen—"Kill the current Demon Slayer Corps leader"—was clearly displayed as completed.
Forget it, it's not the real world anyway, I'm still a good citizen. Yan Sheng cleared his mind of the jumbled thoughts before deciding to report to his lousy boss.
Iwakatsu awkwardly connected with Muzan Kibutsuji using his mind, waiting for the other to answer his call.
"Kuroshibo, what's the matter?"
After waiting a while, Muzan Kibutsuji's lazy voice entered Iwakatsu's mind. Iwakatsu could feel that the other party could see what he was seeing through his eyes, but it was cut off in an instant.
"Muzan... Lord, mission accomplished."
Iwakatsu adopted his usual high-class demeanor, pretending to report on his work to Muzan Kibutsuji. This efficient and flawless work ethic greatly pleased the scumbag boss. His favorability towards Upper Moon One, whom he had brought back, increased several notches.
"Kuroshibo, all you need to do next is help me find suitable talent. I have a lot of confidence in you."
Muzan Kibutsuji first praised him, then left the call with a mission for Kokushiro and hung up, showing no concern for Kokushiro's life or death.
...damn
Yan Sheng grumbled as he accepted the fact that he'd been hung up on; he was unemployed again. Oh well, he'd just wander around aimlessly; whether he achieved his sales targets or not wouldn't affect his mission anyway.
Yan Sheng watched the sky gradually lighten and quickened his pace. He needed to find a place to hide as soon as possible. This constant hiding and dodging was making him feel like a wanted criminal. Sigh.
Life is tough, Yan Sheng sighed.
