Absolute silence reigned, no one was around. The stars and moon dotted the sky, and the soft hum of insects accompanied the earth. Such a rare and beautiful moment, so I, Chen Fei, naturally, would not let it go to waste. Finding the perfect time, while everyone was deep in sleep, I hummed a tune of my own and leisurely walked out of the cave.
Following the surrounding paths, with the light given by the stars in the sky, I came to a relatively quiet small lake. I sat cross-legged on the ground, with my hands casually resting on my chin, looking like I was deep in thought. In fact, my mind was completely empty, floating freely somewhere.
My mind casually recalled the people around me recently and the people who appeared around me, such as Qin Lan, Jiang Chu, Li Tianming, Ye Mei, Ye Bin and a series of others.
In this moment of contentment, I felt as if I had gained a new level of understanding. Food, sex, and nature are all part of human nature. The actions of Li Tianming, Da Fei, and the others were likely all tied to this saying. The Ye Mei siblings were merely victims of this deserted island; they could be collectively described as the weak. Darwin's theory of evolution, with its harsh yet realistic maxim, perfectly apt, applied here. For Jiang Chu, I harbored the same youthful devotion and joy of reunion, even the cherishing of someone lost and now found. She was, to me, the unattainable dream of my youth, the longing and obsession of years. But, as the fog lifted, I realized that the little girl no longer occupied that independent, forest-like space in my heart. I felt pity, guilt, and reluctance for her, but only lost that pure, hazy love. As for Qin Lan, there is no point in saying more. I already understand how she feels.
During that brief nap, I felt a profound surge of strength, a warmth coursing through my body. I knew this was the change brought on by the mutation; I would constantly draw strength from the outside world, enriching myself. I stood up and stretched, a long, deep yawn betraying my current distress. I suddenly felt the urge to try the feeling of "using the sky as a blanket and the ground as a bed." I'd experienced this many times in my time as a special forces soldier, but it's been a long time since I became a bodyguard for Miss Qin Lan, and now I even feel a tinge of nostalgia. With this thought in mind, I found a relatively flat rock to lean against, and drifted off to sleep under the starlit sky.
This night, without scheming, without killing, without noise, was a truly relaxing one. But I also knew that days like this were few and far between, and there wouldn't be many more in the future.
A dreamless night.
The first thing I saw when I woke up the next day was Qin Lan's face, magnified several times, right in front of me. It startled me. I quickly backed away, fearing I'd be kissing her alluring lips in the next second. "This little girl, she's such a worry," I sighed inwardly.
"Hey, Chen Fei, I woke up early this morning and didn't see you, so I came out to look for you. Why didn't you say hello when you left? And do you think people can sleep here? Aren't you afraid of mosquito bites? What if a wild beast comes out while you're asleep and eats you alive? Are you stupid? Think about it and don't leave it out there. Don't get arrogant and look down on anything just because you have weapons. Chen Fei, I'm warning you! We are tied together, you have to treat me well. Otherwise... otherwise I... I will!"
I looked at her mumbling and nagging with amusement, thinking that this was probably what women were like, saying one thing and thinking another. If you didn't stop her mumbling in time, it might really go on and on.
"Okay, okay, miss, I'm a grown-up and I'll take care of myself. Your nagging so early in the morning is almost making my eardrums perforate. I stayed out all night with nothing happening and then got into trouble because of your nagging." I covered my ears with my hands while saying this, and I looked so fake that Qin Lan couldn't help but burst into laughter.
"Fade Chen, what are your plans next?" After a long while, Qin Lan looked at me seriously.
I looked up at the sky and pondered for a while, then said in a cynical tone, "Greedy for money and lustful, just a vulgar person, hahahahahahahaha", I couldn't control my laughter at all.
Qin Lan seemed to be annoyed by my thoughtless words. She stretched out her long legs towards me and stepped on me viciously, saying, "Chen Fei! I'm serious!"
I could feel her anxiety and dissatisfaction with my indifferent attitude through her slightly flushed face. My heart seemed to be wrapped in a ball of heat, a scorching feeling, as if it was going to burn me to ashes. The last flames left behind Qin Lan's every frown, smile, and gesture.
Mutation is still good. When she stepped on me, I didn't feel much pain. It was just like a kitten scratching you gently. It was itchy and comfortable.
Seeing this, I didn't want to tease her anymore, otherwise if she really got angry with me, I would be the one in trouble.
"Alright, alright, I'll stop teasing you. Now, follow the main group. There's a group of other people inside. We can't just break away from the group and act alone right after reaching an agreement. That's bound to lead to gossip."
I saw that Qin Lan seemed to not understand what I said, so I took the trouble to analyze it for her in more depth.
"Look, we just reached an agreement with Brother Dafei yesterday. In other words, it means that we have the power of half the people in our hands.
