I saw Jack stop and thought he had finished speaking, and a look of joy appeared on his face.
"That's it, can we eat now?"
As soon as I finished saying this, Jack's expression became strange, and he looked at me with a dark face.
When I saw Jack's expression, the words "It's over" suddenly flashed through my mind.
I don't know why I thought this way, but my intuition was that Jack was unhappy.
"I haven't finished yet. If possible, I hope you can not eat snake meat. I hope you can listen to me finish!" This was the first time Jack had so much to say. This had never happened before.
"Okay, you talk first, but the possibility of not eating snake meat is very low. After all, our food is limited. We must cherish these ingredients. It is shameful to waste them, isn't it?" I said righteously.
In fact, I know why Jack is so resistant. These are actually very normal things. After all, just like some ethnic groups I knew before, they don’t eat snake meat, and even believe that snakes can bring them good luck. This is probably the same type of person as Jack; but in extraordinary times, we still have to treat it extraordinary. It is impossible to starve yourself because of these things.
This is what I think. After all, I am just an ordinary person. When people are forced into a corner, they will even eat their own kind, just like the savages.
However, I think that kind of behavior is too self-degrading. Even in difficult times, one should not eat one's compatriots, otherwise what is the difference between them and animals? But snake meat is different. Sometimes, in order to survive, it is okay to break some principles.
"Forget it, I can't talk to you!" Jack was annoyed by my stubbornness. He looked at me in annoyance, turned around and continued his story to Xiao Ding, trying to brainwash Xiao Ding.
Xiao Ding was getting a little impatient and urged Jack to continue telling the story. However, he was different from me. Xiao Ding really wanted to listen to the story, not like me, who just wanted to finish it quickly and eat the snake meat.
"Where were we talking about just now?" Jack looked at Xiao Ding, not knowing what was going on for a moment, and asked.
"Speaking of... the snake hated the child, so what happened next? But I'm quite curious, why did the snake roll around and act like a spoiled child?" Xiao Ding answered Jack's questions very actively, and also raised the questions that arose in his mind in this story.
The interaction between the two reminded me of the scene when my classmates actively asked questions in class. Seeing this scene, I suddenly thought of the division of labor we had discussed before, and suddenly I felt that Jack was taking this opportunity to impart knowledge.
"Really? The problem is that this snake is practicing Taoism, and it's time for it to come down to experience tribulations. But it didn't expect to encounter such a situation. The move by that child destroyed the results of its previous efforts, so the snake hates him." Jack explained to Xiao Ding.
"So that's how it is. This snake is really pitiful. What happened next? Did the snake die just like that?" Xiao Ding is like a child, able to clearly distinguish between good and evil.
"No, because the snake's eyes scared the child so much that he picked up a hoe and hoe the snake's head into a pulp!" After saying that, Jack looked at me, and that look gave me a chill.
I don’t know why the story Jack told was so similar to what I did last night. I couldn’t help but be attracted by Jack’s story and didn’t pay attention to the snake meat in the pot.
It seems that the two have something to do with each other, and at this time, the matter of eating snake meat will be completely forgotten.
"Finally, the snake got stuck on the child, scaring him so much that he ran away. You later discovered that he was hallucinating. The snake was indeed dead, and the one hanging on him was the other half of its body that had gotten on him at some point. He then realized he was hallucinating. People in the group knew that there were three children who wanted to eat meat, so they made soup and ate it. The children didn't like snake meat, so they didn't eat it. Although they were fine after eating it, they all died a day later. After that, he started having dreams. He dreamed that he was surrounded by snakes. Later, the snake he had killed came back to find him and coiled around his head. One day, snake scales began to grow all over his body. He then realized that he had become possessed by the snake, and that anything that happened to him would happen to him."
The fat man also heard Jack's story. Thinking of the bowl he had just eaten, he froze. He looked at me with a sad face: "You said I might not be poisoned now, but I will be poisoned in a few days."
After hearing this story, Xiao Ding, Fatty and I were all shocked and looked at each other. We didn't expect Jack's story to be so scary.
When I saw what the fat man said, I suddenly couldn't laugh anymore, because if what Jack said was true, and if the fat man died, then I would really be held responsible.
I immediately took out the silver needle in my hand, asked the fat man to stretch out his hand, took off the tissue, and gave him an injection. I found that the silver needle did not turn black, and we both breathed a sigh of relief.
However, after so many scares, Jack's story only left a mark in our hearts. It did not have much effect and could not stop us from being the snake meat.
I looked at Jack and said, "That's a fascinating story, but I don't believe something like this will ever happen to us."
Jack thought we would give up after seeing our big reaction, but he didn't expect me to still eat it. He couldn't help but shook his head and said, "You're so stubborn! This story is true, otherwise why would I choose not to eat the snake soup?"
Jack looked very unhappy, but he couldn't say anything. After all, everyone has their own choices. He had already advised them, so he shook his head and said seriously, "I've finished speaking. The decision is in your hands. If something goes wrong, then there's nothing I can do!"
The story caused by a snake soup ended with my decision, and Jack's advice did not seem so ideal.
I became a bowl of snake soup and ate it. The overwhelming feeling of fulfillment filled me with joy; I was finally no longer hungry. But seeing Jack's determined look, I didn't intend to force him to eat the snake soup. After all, everyone has their own reasons for insisting on it. As long as he didn't hinder the team's progress when we set out later, that was all that mattered.
Xiao Ding didn't know what he was facing sitting there, and his face was serious. We quickly reminded him, "Drink it while it's hot, otherwise it won't taste good!"
