Chapter 359 Bugs

It was just like a bolt from the blue.

I took a step back and watched Jack take out a candlestick from his arms. There was only a short piece of candle on it. I took it and tried, but I couldn't light it no matter what.

"How could this happen? Why can't it be lit?" I looked at Jack with red eyes, and the veins on the back of my hand clenched on the candlestick were bulging.

"She was the only original candlestick on the entire sixth floor. Over the years, she burned and gave birth to a lamp spirit. The first person the lamp spirit saw was you, so she recognized you as her father."

"When she first came down, I sensed something unusual about her. She approached you with no ulterior motive, but having spent so many years on the sixth floor, which was filled with Princess Qian Ning's hatred, it's inevitable that she's been tainted with resentment. This resentment will gradually weaken those who approach her."

When I heard this, my heart felt like it was being stabbed by needles and I couldn't breathe.

I remembered what I had questioned her before, her timid look with red eyes, and her horrified expression with wide eyes when I said I didn't want her.

It turns out that I had misunderstood everything.

I'm such a bastard!

"Will she... come back to life?" I looked at the candlestick in my hand. There was not a single sign of life. My heart felt like a huge rock was pressing on it and I couldn't breathe.

"Maybe, maybe not. Lamp spirits are something beyond the scope of scientific explanation. Who knows?" Jack said ambiguously.

"Keep it well, no matter if it's useful or not, at least keep it as a souvenir." Qin Lan said from the side.

I lowered my head and remained silent for a while before I put the candlestick into my arms and regained my spirits. There were only three floors left before I could get out. Having come this far, he couldn't give up.

Xiao Deng even risked her life just to let me go to the seventh floor. How could I let her down?

Little girl.

"Let's go upstairs?" I silently put the candlestick into my arms, then turned to the two of them and walked upstairs first.

"Squeak--" As soon as I stepped onto the seventh floor, I felt an extremely shrill scream, like the sound of insects in mating. I subconsciously frowned and walked in with Jack Qin Lan.

The seventh floor was like a huge laboratory. The white floor was filled with transparent glass jars one after another. All the jars were filled with various kinds of insects, and I had never seen any of these insects before.

They seemed to be things beyond my understanding, and I couldn't search my memory for any one that matched them, or anything like that.

"What kind of bug is this?" I walked to a huge glass cover that contained a single bug and turned to Jack and asked.

The glass cover is about one meter high, and inside it is a huge centipede-like insect clinging with difficulty. Because of its huge size, it has great difficulty in turning around.

The reason why it is similar is that although it looks like a centipede, it has a poisonous stinger on its tail like a scorpion.

What's even more peculiar is that it has a pair of eyes that are exactly the same as humans, with black pupils, white eyeballs, and long eyelashes.

Qin Lan didn't know any of this, so she kept silent. The two of them looked at Jack together. He was probably the only one who could understand this.

"Have you heard of the beautiful scorpion?" Jack's body stiffened, and he might have realized that these two people completely treated him as a commentator. He did not frown in displeasure, but still answered.

"Beauty Scorpio? Never heard of it..." Qin Lan repeated it deliberately and shook her head.

I had even less idea, so I shook my head as well.

Jack sighed helplessly, looked at us with an illiterate look, and then slowly said, "In mythology, there was an island country by the sea. There lived a beautiful queen, and the queen had an extremely beautiful maid."

When I heard this, I knew it was going to be a melodrama.

Sure enough, the next moment, Jack continued, "The queen was jealous of the maid's eyebrows, so she locked her up and had her face mutilated. She tortured her every day, and when she was about to breathe her last, she had her thrown into a desolate mountain."

"However, the story did not end there. After being thrown into the desolate mountains, the maid did not die. Instead, she was swallowed by a scorpion spirit."

"What? Swallowed by the scorpion? You don't mean to say that this... this thing... is the maid and the scorpion that has become a spirit?" Qin Lan, who was standing aside, suddenly pointed at the human eyes on the scorpion and asked tremblingly.

Jack pursed his lips at her horrified expression, then nodded firmly.

"You continue!" I sighed as I watched Qin Lan hide behind me in a flash. I didn't expect that she was still so timid after being on the deserted island for so long. I sighed helplessly, shrugged at Jack, and asked him to continue.

"The maid and the scorpion spirit merged into one, becoming a beautiful scorpion with human eyes, a centipede body, and a scorpion tail." Jack finished his next words with a faint smile.

"Wait, why is it a centipede body?" I suddenly interrupted with a frown, unable to understand.

Jack was stunned when he heard this, then smiled and explained, "When the scorpion was becoming a spirit, it was accidentally swallowed by a centipede. But it ended up killing the centipede, and only its tail broke free. So over time, it ended up with a centipede body and a scorpion tail."

"Oh, so that's how it is!" I nodded in understanding.

Then he lowered his head again to look at the beautiful scorpion in the transparent glass cover. Just now, he was just looking at it with animal eyes, with nothing but surprise.

But now that I know there's a human soul living in its body, if I look at its eyes again, I'll find there's not a trace of human emotion in them; they're cold, cruel, and indifferent, just like a real bug.

I felt not only shock, but also panic.

It's too unbelievable.

I stared at it blankly for a long time, until I broke out in a cold sweat and felt a chill running down my back. Then I shuddered suddenly and forced myself to look away.

Turning around and looking at the many glass covers like this one next to me, I felt a bad premonition rising from the bottom of my heart.

I subconsciously looked for the staircase to the eighth floor, but found that the staircase was behind all the glass covers. If I wanted to go through, I had to go through these glass covers.

"It's a bit weird here, let's get out quickly!" I suggested with a frown, feeling very nervous.

"Yeah, that's right." Jack also agreed with a serious face.

Only Qin Lan shrugged nonchalantly, poked her head out from behind me, no longer afraid, and looked at the glass covers curiously, with no sense of danger at all. Anyway, those things were locked up and couldn't get out.

Why not be bolder?
