Chapter 40 Picking up a goat

After getting a general understanding, I simply packed these things into my backpack, including the gun without bullets. The bullets of this gun are slightly different in size from those of ordinary pistols, and the bullets of Qin Lan's gun cannot be used on it.

After finishing my backpack, I picked up my original backpack again. I couldn’t let this trip be in vain, so I naturally caught another bag of fish and took it back.

As soon as I returned to the cave, I called Qin Lan to come and help.

"This is a small military generator, and this one is a rechargeable portable lamp. Now you need to crank the generator for a while to charge the bulb."

After putting down my backpack, I handed the spoils to Qin Lan. Qin Lan was naturally very happy to see such rare items on the island.

While Qin Lan was tinkering with the generator, I went out and dug a hole where the black box was originally buried.

After a while, I found the backpack that I had buried before. Inside was the black box I had placed. After opening the backpack, I put the iron box I had obtained in it.

Then I covered it with soil again and sprinkled weeds on it as before.

I came back extra early today, so before it got dark, I went to the beach again and caught a big backpack of fish.

The weather on the island has been very bad recently, and we need to dry these fish as soon as possible to sustain our lives and as food storage.

At night, Qin Lan and I had grilled fish as usual, but today the cave had a long-lost light.

I inserted a bamboo stick into the top of the cave and hung the lamp on it.

The next day I continued to go fishing. Qin Lan was now drying the fish I caught yesterday at home.

My luck was pretty good today. I picked up four hairy crabs on the beach and a big octopus was washed up.

With a full catch, I returned to the cave.

"Including the 13 today, how many are there in total?"

I poured the full load of fish in front of Qin Lan.

"Including what you caught today, we now have almost 40 fish."

Looking at the full plate of food, Qin Lan's face was full of smiles.

"Okay, you continue to dry them in the sun. It's still early. I'll go to the bamboo forest and take a look."

These days I have been traveling through the bamboo forest every day. If I say that I was looking for food to make a living, then this is not the accurate answer. A few days ago, I was just transporting bamboo. I saw a large area of bamboo and brought it back. I always had a feeling that I would use them in the days to come.

My purpose of going to the bamboo forest today was very clear, which was to cut a backpack of bamboo shoots to take back for use.

Before the rainy season arrives, the bamboo shoots produced by the entire bamboo forest for the second time are exceptionally fresh and tender.

In just a short while, I had filled my backpack.

But just as I was about to leave, I heard a sound similar to the bleating of sheep.

Following the sound, I slowly moved forward, step by step. That was a place in front of the bamboo forest that I had never been to before.

The sound was getting closer and closer, as if it was right next to me. Just as I was looking around, a big pit appeared in my field of vision in front of me, and the sound of sheep coming from that big pit.

I slowly approached the big pit, and I could see very clearly from a close distance that a lamb covered in scars appeared in the pit, with three bamboo thorns stuck in its body. This was a trap left by someone in advance.

Looking at the newly dug trap, a sense of crisis instantly came to my mind. This indicated that other people had come to this side of the island. It seemed that Qin Lan and I’s quiet life was about to be disrupted.

It took me a lot of effort to pull the lamb out of the trap. I had found a vine in advance to tie its neck. It was a rare delicacy. With such a serious injury, it was sure to die, but I could lead it back to my residence.

The goat walked in front of me, and its blood left a clear trail on the ground. There was no way I would let it reveal its tracks like this.

I followed the goat and covered the bloodstains little by little with fresh grass, so that even if the bloodstains were discovered, they would not be able to find us by following the bloodstains.

The goat followed me all the way and collapsed on the ground just before we reached our place. There were still a few dozen meters to go, and luckily the goat wasn't particularly big, so I carried it back.

"Ah He, look what I brought back."

Hearing my voice, Qin Lan hurried out.

"Wow, how did you catch it?"

Qin Lan looked at the goat with shining eyes. This was undoubtedly the best food they had had in recent times.

"I didn't catch it."

I slowly told Qin Lan everything.

Just as I expected, after hearing the whole story, Qin Lan's mood became serious.

"So what should we do? Will they find us?"

Qin Lan looked at me with some concern. I understood that she didn't want others to disturb her peaceful life.

"Don't worry, I'm going out to explore the situation tonight. Now what we need to do is deal with this goat first."

With the help of a knife, I completely peeled off the sheepskin. The whole piece of sheepskin was very large and could be used as a quilt for us after drying.

"As for the meat, we still follow the old rules and continue drying it after smoking."

Qin Lan started processing goat meat.

But I have more important things to do. Today I have to start processing the bamboo I brought back a few days ago.

Since there are enemies on this side of the island, what Qin Lan and I lack now is weapons.
