Chapter 60 Military Base

Now that we know the places where rabbits must pass, the next step is to set traps. Rabbits are very cunning creatures. Once they find that their path has been destroyed, they will not be able to move forward. Therefore, digging pit traps will not work. In fact, the simplest and best trap to set up in such places may be a noose trap.

Normally, setting a rope trap only requires a piece of metal wire, but the conditions at this time do not allow it, and we do not have the metal wire to complete this great feat. However, according to my observation, there is a kind of thin vine that can act as a metal wire.

This thin vine is green all over, thin and very long, but its toughness is excellent, so you can give it a try.

This trap is incredibly simple, I basically just make a noose and when the prey tries to get through it their body pulls on the noose, which then tightens around their neck and either entangles them or strangles them.

During normal winters, many men in the north would take metal buckles to the mountains to set rope traps. As long as the ropes were placed properly, they would basically be able to harvest game that winter. This is why hunters often set noose traps on animal trails.

Animals often move back and forth along the trail, which can trigger traps. You can also use sticks or branches to block the traps, guiding the prey toward them and preventing them from circumventing them.

After the trap is set, there is one thing I cannot ignore, and that is my smell. I must disguise the smell around the trap location.

Most animals have a very sensitive sense of smell and even a small amount of human scent can alert them and cause them to avoid the area where my traps are set.

Although it sounds like this is not an easy thing to achieve, it is actually not as difficult as you imagine.

There are plants nearby, so I just need to grab a handful of mud from the roots of the plants and apply it to the rope. This most primitive smell can fully cover up the smell on my hands.

After setting these up, I found some sticks and branches to block the trap. This would guide the prey towards the trap and not give it a chance to bypass it.

Jiang Chu and I walked along like this until the afternoon. We had set about 8 traps, but it was unknown how many wild rabbits we could catch.

Jiang Chu and I were busy for so long that we didn't finish our lunch until around mid-afternoon. There wasn't anything worthy of filling our stomachs. Only a few rotten fruits could replenish our lack of energy.

I borrowed a large can of birch sap earlier, and this drink temporarily solved our urgent need.

"Next we need to rush to the beach."

First we need to go to the southeast coast, where Jiang Chu has placed his kayak.

After walking for a long time, we finally arrived at the location of the kayaks.

But the appearance of the coast has changed a lot now, and the place where the yacht was originally placed is now covered with dust.

"Luckily I brought a shovel. It seems the typhoon last night wasn't as strong as I thought."

The yacht is now completely covered in dust, but I have no intention of abandoning it.

Even if you dig it out, it won't take much effort.

The two of us worked together, Jiang Chu used a saber and I used a shovel. The process lasted about an hour before we managed to rescue the yacht from the dust.

"How much fuel is left on this yacht?"

"It can probably still run about 10 nautical miles."

"That's bad. This is not enough."

It would take at least 30 nautical miles to reach the opposite coast. Judging from the amount of oil described by Jiang Chu, this does not meet our requirements at all.

"It seems this yacht is no longer usable."

Although I don't want to abandon this thing here, without enough fuel, the yacht will be like a piece of scrap metal and will be of no use at all.

"It can be used, but we need to find some oil to add to it."

"The only place with fuel in this crash is probably the island next to the wreckage. It's at least 20 nautical miles away. It's simply unrealistic to drive there to refuel."

The island where the squad leader and Li Yuan are located is probably on our right side. Although I have a few *, they are what I plan to use tomorrow. Even if I don't use * as a weapon, that little bit of oil alone can't solve our urgent needs.

Jiang Chu stood aside and thought about something. After a long time, he heard her say

“There’s oil on this island.”

"There's oil? How come?"

I don’t quite believe what Jiang Chu said.

"This place is a branch base of the Falcon Black Skull. It has weapons, ammunition, and gasoline."

"You mean this isn't where the plane crash happened?"

"Of course not. Where do you think their yachts and weapons came from?"

Jiang Chu's words once again expanded my scope of knowledge.

"This incident was not a plane crash, but a premeditated hijacking. The pilot was shot dead mid-flight, and the plane lost control and ended up on the island."

Jiang Chu told me everything I didn't know. If it weren't for this, I would still be kept in the dark about the plane crash.

"It's a coincidence that this place is located in the center of the ocean. There are four islands here, and we are currently at the southernmost of these four islands. Our east is the safest island, and I'm placing Sister Qin there."

"The island ahead of us is exactly where you landed during the plane crash. It's also the largest island currently."

"And this island to our west is a military base of the Falcon Black Skull, and the leader in charge is Zhou Chengzu."

In order to help me understand it in more detail, Jiang Chu drew a floor plan for me on the ground.

"I captured a soldier alive that day, and from him I learned about this operation. The garrison on Tomorrow Island will be reduced to about five people, but they will be supplemented by another mercenary team, making a total of about ten people. This team is well-equipped and will be a tough nut to crack."

Jiang Chu circled the location of the local troops twice.

"Then is it possible that after we take down this place, we can take their equipment and steal the military base to the west?"

"That's absolutely impossible. There are at least 50 troops stationed at the base, including several mercenaries. Their strength far exceeds our imagination. Furthermore, the terrain there is difficult to attack and easy to defend. It's extremely dangerous and not suitable for a surprise attack. With less than ten of us, it's impossible to make any progress."

Even if we rescue those five brothers, we won't be able to do much next. But I won't give up. Zhou Chengzu, that bastard, one day, I will stick a knife into his heart!
