61. East Asian families
My mother is reserved and gentle, and her love is melted into the details, moistening everything silently.
My father has nothing to do with the word love. He is like a conservative who cannot accept Western fanaticism. He can be said to be a stubborn person who sticks to his own ways in the traditional sense.
Children who grow up in a traditional East Asian family model where expression of love is conservative and shameful cannot bear to see their parents kissing.
I just feel itchy as if my whole body is covered with hair.
It's worth mentioning that her family is actually different from the average East Asian family in one respect:
Traditionally, women work at home and men work outside, but in her family it's just the opposite.
Since moving to Haicheng, the Chu family has gradually severed their ties with the nobility and upper class society and started a new life.
Established a company and engaged in the brewing industry.
The craftsmanship and technology were provided by my father, while everything from management to sales and financial operations was controlled by my mother.
Although Chu Yanhui was more afraid of his cold and serious father, he always knew that all the money in the family was in his mother's hands.
Logically speaking, where the money is, there is power.
But my mother always gave the power to my father and asked him to make decisions on daily matters, in order to tolerate his bad temper and maintain his chauvinistic dignity.
However, when it comes to big things, she still makes the decisions.
Just like when my father squandered all the family property and angered my grandfather to death and we were at our wit's end and we were helpless, my mother suggested that we sell the villa immediately and move our family to Haicheng to develop.
My father's temper and machismo make him easily emotional and unable to solve problems properly.
The calm and reserved mother is just the opposite. She is thoughtful and can calmly analyze the situation and come up with the best solution.
"What are you doing standing here? If you want to buy something, let's go inside and take a look!"
Fu Zhiju's voice in her ear was like thunder, pulling her wandering thoughts back.
Chu Yanhui finally came to his senses and realized that he had just been lost in memories because of his tie.
So I walked into the store.
I asked the store manager, who was wearing a smart white women's suit:
"Do you still have that burgundy tie?"
The store manager said a little embarrassedly, "Miss, the last of this tie has been reserved. Would you like to see other styles or colors?"
Fu Zhiju took a look and asked, "Is this the last piece in the display case?"
"No, this is a sample. The quality is far inferior to the original."
The store manager took out the packaged genuine product and opened the box for the two of them. Fu Zhiju only took one look and knew she was not lying.
Chu Yan looked back at the genuine product and decided to buy it: "I want one, you don't have to get it today, there's no rush."
"Actually, if you decide to order this one, we can order it from the main store and it will be delivered to your door in about three hours."
"No, I'll pick it up tonight."
Delivery to your door, to Shuixie Hua Ting? No.
She swiped the card and collected the receipt.
Fu Zhiju walked around the store and said to her, "Actually, there are better ties in this store."
Because I often wear formal suits, I know as much about ties as I do other accessories.
There are only a few well-known accessories stores on this street. The quality of this one is okay, but the previous one can only be considered above average, not the best.
Upon hearing this, the store manager smiled and said to the two of them, "Yes, we also have ties with a more stylish and textured design, and we can design them according to your requirements, temperament, and habitual clothing."
Chu Yan looked around and found that there were indeed many beautiful things to see, but none of them were what she remembered.
There were many burgundy colors, most of which had a somewhat uninhibited and frivolous feel. Only the one she initially liked was serious, with a silk ombré pattern. Although the quality and design weren't top-notch, she was satisfied that she had found a tie that resembled her father's memory at a glance.
It was already dark when they left the store, and the two went to have dinner.
Fu Zhiju insisted on drinking, but Chu Yanhui was not a good drinker and was afraid of making a fool of herself by acting crazy. After Fu Zhiju's repeated persuasion, she finally drank a glass, and her face immediately turned red.
"You can't do this, you need to practice-"
Fu Zhiju despised her for blushing after just one glass of wine, saying she was so useless.
Chu Yanhui was at a loss whether to laugh or cry.
"I don't usually like to drink and rarely go to drinking parties. What's the point of practicing this?"
"Although my parents are in the wine business, they don't let me touch it. They think I'm too young to drink."
"Still young? Oh my god, you're almost 23!"
Chu Yanhui smiled and said, "I'll listen to my mother."
The eldest lady raised her eyebrows: "Why didn't you listen when I told you not to be with Gu He?"
"You're going too far, Fu Zhiju. You can't eat even a single spicy strip!" Chu Yan bared his teeth.
The two began fighting for the plate.
After dinner, Chu Yan went back to get the tie.
The packaging is very simple. The box is black and wrapped with a ribbon. There is a long, niche foreign language printed on the back of the box. It is probably just decoration rather than an introduction. It is suitable as a gift for parents.
At least it's better than those that are too fancy or too simple.
I don’t know what’s wrong with brands nowadays. Some packaging is almost more complicated than the contents, top-heavy, making people want to buy the box and return the pearl; others are so simple that at first glance you can only see a luxury logo on the outer packaging, and the rest is blank, as if waiting for someone to paint a picture on it.
When we returned to Shuixie Hua Ting, it was almost nine o'clock.
Because Fu Zhiju had other things to do, he left early and asked the housekeeper to send her back.
Fu Zhiju rarely came to Shuixie Hua Ting, and the security guard didn't recognize her license plate number, so he stopped the car and refused to let it pass. So Chu Yanhui lowered the window, and the security guard, realizing it was her, immediately let the car in.
Feng Zhi escorted her to the European-style carved door as Fu Zhiju requested, and got out of the car to hand her the items she bought, just like a housekeeper who had been working for many years, doing his job neatly and appropriately.
"Miss Chu, this is your item."
"Thanks."
Chu Yanhui took the handbag, looked into his eyes gently and thanked him.
Then she happily walked up the steps carrying the tie and two pieces of jewelry she had bought.
Didn’t you see that the man in front of the floor-to-ceiling glass in the lobby on the first floor was staring at the scene with an expressionless face?
She planned to go upstairs and put the things she bought in the cabinet in her room, and then go to Haicheng in two days to give them to her father as a surprise.
What would Dad say?
Maybe you will also remember what happened when you were looking for the tie?
And what expression?
The girl thought so and walked in happily.
The next moment, she saw a familiar figure standing in the entrance hall, looking at her calmly.
"Uncle?"
Her good mood extended to every aspect, so much so that even looking at the late night sky seemed clear, and she didn't realize there was anything wrong with his emotions.
The man asked gently, "Out?"
"Yeah, I walked around and bought some things."
Seeing him standing there, she thought he had just gotten off work and asked softly, "Did you just come back?"
