Chapter 11

Chapter 11

After leaving the sewage well, Tang Ruxin and Yu Lei went to check the surveillance together, but were told that the area near the sewage well was in a surveillance blind spot during this period of time.

According to company regulations, internal control staff were required to adjust the camera's direction every hour. The sewage well was within the camera's range during the previous monitoring period, meaning only Tang Ruxin appeared at the wellhead; even Yu Lei wasn't captured.

"Are there any outsiders working on site now?" Tang Ruxin asked while looking through the surveillance footage.

"Yes. Two instrument maintenance workers are adding antifreeze to the remote thermometer on the device. It's cold now, so we have to add antifreeze almost every day, otherwise it will easily freeze." The squad leader was a short, fat, bald man. He smiled and looked very pleasing.

Tang Ruxin sat in the operating chair in the central control room, tapping the table rhythmically with her four fingers, as if keeping beat.

To save money, the company didn't require full coverage of the installation area when deploying cameras; it only required coverage where the cameras could turn their heads. That's why it's required to regularly rotate the cameras to check for unauthorized entry.

"Besides the two instrument workers, who else was not in the operating room just now?" Yu Lei asked. Seeing the other party's puzzled look, he took out his police officer ID and waved it.

"That's a lot. The compressor is being switched on site. Except for the three women in the internal operation position, everyone else is on site. If Mr. Tang hadn't come, I would also have to be on site to watch the machine being switched." The squad leader replied immediately.

"Is everyone in the compressor room?" Tang Ruxin raised her head and leaned back in her chair. "The surveillance cameras in the room shouldn't be pointing anywhere else, right?"

"That's not possible!" the squad leader said hurriedly. The computer room monitoring is used to monitor the operation of the machines. If it is turned in another direction, he will have to spend money out of his pocket.

The surveillance footage clearly shows five or six people circling around the compressor, and their collaborative conversations and the voices of employees in the internal operation position directing operations can be heard on the intercom.

"Has anyone left the surveillance range?"

"Of course there is. The compressor is on the second-floor platform, but the lubricating oil station is on the first floor. To switch the unit, you have to run up and down the stairs, and someone has to go outside the machine room to confirm the process and the pressure of the inlet and outlet buffer tanks..." The squad leader talked incessantly, wishing he could explain all the steps for switching the compressor.

Tang Ruxin felt a headache after listening to this, but Yu Lei asked questions with great interest, such as what the buffer tank was used for, how the lubricating oil station was operated, and why people had to go to the oil station. He asked questions like a curious baby.

The monitor was clearly more pleased to deal with Yu Lei than Tang Ruxin. His questions were much easier to answer, and there were no penalties for incorrect answers. The two of them engaged in a back-and-forth, their conversation so intense that Tang Ruxin couldn't get a word in. She couldn't understand what Yu Lei was doing. Even if she tried to hint at it, wouldn't it be too far-fetched? What did all this professional knowledge have to do with him?

"Heart, Boss?"

The call was soft and hesitant. Tang Ruxin didn't realize it was for her, but she subconsciously turned around. Her gaze passed between Yu Lei and the squad leader standing beside her and stopped at Tong Jiayu, who was not far away.

Tong Jiayu was wearing a blue work suit and a safety helmet. She was holding up her wet hands, slightly opening her lips and looking at Tang Ruxin in surprise.

Then Tang Ruxin understood where the word "Xin Zong" came from. Tong Jiayu originally wanted to call her "Xin Ma", but suddenly stopped and changed it to "Zong".

Tang Ruxin smiled at her and turned back to checking the surveillance footage. Their personal relationship shouldn't be made public, especially since she had indeed interfered with Tong Jiayu's work because of it. To avoid being accused of being a relative and affecting her relationships, it was best to pretend she didn't know her.

I didn't expect Tong Jiayu to be at work. What a coincidence - a thought suddenly flashed through Tang Ruxin's mind. The thought was so absurd that she couldn't help but shake her head secretly.

Tong Jiayu's team was at work when Liu Dong died. It was also the same team that was working when he was imprisoned underground. It seemed as if this twelve-person team had a special connection to this incident.

What does this mean? Is this team the culprit? That's far-fetched. Besides, the device isn't sealed; anyone can get in, just by avoiding the surveillance cameras. The location of those cameras isn't secret; anyone who wants to can find them.

"What's wrong with you? Are you cutting the compressor? Why are you running around?" The squad leader turned around. His face, which had been wrinkled with smiles, immediately became serious when facing Tong Jiayu. The hard tone and the softness just now seemed to come from two different people.

"I'm going to the bathroom." Tong Jiayu muttered softly, quickly returned to his workstation, and thanked another internal operator next to him.

Each operator in the back-office operations department has their own screen, so if someone leaves, someone else has to monitor the screen. One person monitoring the operating parameters of two devices is not a problem when everything is running smoothly, but if there are operational changes, it can be a bit overwhelming.

The unit Tong Jiayu was in charge of was currently switching compressors, requiring adjustments to a number of operating data. The employee helping her with the operation was visibly relieved when she returned, and rolled his eyes at her thanks, clearly displeased that she was using the restroom at such a time.

"A lazy donkey poops and pees a lot when it comes to grinding. You go to the bathroom the moment you need to! You spent the entire time cutting a compressor in the bathroom, while others did all the work for you. We'd already informed you that the machine would be cut during this timeframe, so why couldn't you go to the bathroom earlier?"

The squad leader angrily threw the cutting machine operation card in his hand in front of Tong Jiayu, as if scolding his grandson.

Tong Jiayu smiled awkwardly, nodded and bowed repeatedly, saying, "I'm sorry, I'll be more careful next time."

The squad leader, still unsatisfied, took two steps forward, pointed at the operation card he had just thrown in front of her, and said, "Sign it. Someone else can do the work, but you'll be held responsible. Next time there's a need for an operator to be transferred, if you're not on duty, I'll count you as a miner."

"Okay, I definitely will." No one knew what he meant by "definitely", but Tong Jiayu agreed readily and signed obediently with his head down.

Tang Ruxin looked at this scene, the faint smile on her lips so faint that it was almost invisible.

Strictly speaking, the team leader was right. The internal operator plays a crucial role in adjusting operations and is responsible for directing the on-site external operator. According to company regulations, internal operators must follow the instructions on the operation card and confirm step-by-step that the external operator's steps are correct. If one person were to simultaneously direct the external operators of two devices, the risk of operational errors would increase.

His accusation against Tong Jiayu was correct, but he did something wrong.

"Go and take a shit tomorrow." Tang Ruxin supported her chin and looked at the squad leader, and suddenly spoke.

There was no smile on her lips, but there was frost in her eyes.

The squad leader was stunned, suspecting he was hallucinating - what did Director Tang ask him to do?

"Do you often arrange one person to watch the operation of two sets of equipment at the same time?" Tang Ruxin asked.

The squad leader's throat suddenly felt uncomfortable, and he coughed and groaned for a long time to clear it. Obviously, he also realized what Tang Ruxin wanted to say. This matter could be serious or minor. If it was taken seriously, it could be considered that he violated the rules.

"According to company regulations, what should be done when someone in the internal operations position is temporarily absent?" Seeing that he did not answer, Tang Ruxin continued to ask.

"We'll have an outside operator take her place," the squad leader replied helplessly, though a little unconvinced. "She just went to the bathroom and came back quickly. Besides, the outside operators are all working on-site, so there's no one else to replace her."

"Then what are you doing now?" Tang Ruxin's voice became completely deep. There was no trace of tenderness in her eyes anymore. They were as cold as ice.

The squad leader was completely speechless - he said that there was no one to take over the post, but he was free to accompany the chief security officer to check the surveillance. Isn't this a slap in the face?

Tang Ruxin stood up and walked towards the door. As she passed the squad leader, she said, "See where the two instrument maintenance workers are. Let me know on the intercom."

Yu Lei looked at the scene thoughtfully, and after a moment he poked the squad leader with a grim expression.

"Who is that?" He looked at Tong Jiayu.

"Oh, Tong Jiayu. She came here two years ago and can't do anything but be lazy." The squad leader glanced at Tong Jiayu unhappily, then sat down to check the surveillance with an indignant look on his face. He was scolded for no reason, but he had to do his work quickly. He didn't want to hear Tang Ruxin's urging voice coming from the intercom.

Yu Lei nodded. Two years ago - this time point, quite a coincidence.

He came up behind Tong Jiayu, leaned over the computer screen, and looked at it carefully with a frown. He had seen this picture before. Tang Ruxin had also played it during the day, but Tang Ruxin was so quick that she deleted it in a flash.

"Is this the sewage discharge pipeline?" Yu Lei asked, pointing to a light blue line at the bottom of the screen.

After waiting for two seconds without a response, Yu Lei turned to look at Tong Jiayu, and found that Tong Jiayu was staring at him intently. Her eyes were focused and serious, as if she wanted to see something unusual from his face, and her directness was almost rude.

"Is there something on my face?" Yu Lei had to ask.

"I seem to have seen you somewhere." Tong Jiayu said frankly, blinking her big eyes, looking innocent.

"That's normal. Handsome people are all pretty much the same, but ugly people are all ugly in their own ways." Yu Lei spoke without hesitation, not caring if anyone would be offended. "Did you run into anyone when you were going in and out of the restroom just now?"
