Chapter 13

Chapter 13

Yu Lei wrote a preliminary investigation report overnight and returned to the police station the next day to report. This put pressure on Ding Xinqiao, who had to confirm the murderer's method of committing the crime from a professional perspective.

However, the pipeline corrosion data he needed was not yet available. The reason was simple: Tang Ruxin had taken sick leave. After spending a night outdoors in temperatures exceeding -10 degrees Celsius, she developed a high fever that night.

Tong Jiayu returned home from her night shift and saw her car parked in the garage. She then went to Tang Ruxin's room, pulled her out of bed, her fever reaching 40 degrees Celsius, and rushed her to the hospital. After various tests, the doctor issued a hospitalization order, citing acute pneumonia.

Tang Ruxin readily accepted the offer and checked herself into the hospital, even turning off her phone. After working non-stop for almost a week, sleeping no more than five hours a night, she finally achieved her goal. She'd been desperate for a reason to completely escape the work environment; this pneumonia was a perfect excuse.

"Someone will arrange a nurse, so you should leave quickly. If someone sees you here with me, you won't be able to explain yourself." Tang Ruxin leaned against the hospital bed and waved her hand to drive Tong Jiayu away.

"So what if I saw it? Who cares? Some colleagues have already asked me if I know you, and I said I do. But they didn't believe me, saying that I always inflate myself whenever I get the chance. People..." Tong Jiayu clicked his tongue and shook his head, peeling an apple with his hands.

Tang Ruxin laughed out loud when she heard this. So there was such a trick? Why didn’t she think of it?

"Think carefully. There will be many visitors. Even if I don't introduce you, they will have plenty of ways to find out your identity and your relationship with me. Your life may be easier in the team, but it will also bring more trouble."

Tong Jiayu munched on an apple, blinking her big eyes as she asked, "At most, I'm just trying to get in through the back door. I'm just an operator and I don't plan on getting a promotion or a raise, so what kind of trouble could I have?"

It turns out that this apple was not peeled for her to eat. Tang Ruxin glanced at her.

"People who want to ask me for favors are struggling to find a way to get them in. Be prepared to make good connections."

Tong Jiayu was stunned. She stood up with the apple in her mouth, packed her backpack and left without hesitation.

"Message me if you need anything. Tell me what you want to eat and I'll have Shansong deliver it to you."

Looking at Tong Jiayu who was fleeing in panic, Tang Ruxin laughed again.

Tong Jiayu wasn't good at studying, but she was incredibly knowledgeable about the ways of the world. A simple phrase like "make friends and make friends" already foresaw the potential troubles. The countless invitations and inquiries, along with the need to determine the appropriate level of rejection based on the recipient's status, were far more difficult to handle than the minor conflicts within the team. She'd seen Tang Ruxin handle these situations before, her Tai Chi skills practically blasting her.

Just as Tang Ruxin expected, the first two days were relatively quiet, with almost no one coming to visit the patient except Song Mu.

Song Mu wasn't here to visit someone sick. As a master of upward management, whether his boss could come to the office wasn't important; what mattered was whether he could work at all. Tang Ruxin's acute pneumonia clearly wasn't severe enough to prevent her from working.

So he appeared at Tang Ruxin's bedside at six o'clock every afternoon, reporting on the day's work and urging Tang Ruxin to work.

Tang Ruxin looked at the laptop and the dozen or so documents that needed to be signed in front of her, and for a moment she didn't know whether to praise him for his professionalism or thank his ancestors.

"Sun Chengze will come to visit the patient tomorrow." Song Mu did not let go of Tang Ruxin's idle ears. While watching her review the documents, he made an appointment with her.

Tang Ruxin was reviewing a solid waste disposal contract. Without looking up, she spun the pen around twice and said:

"The previous version of the contract required hazardous waste to be handled at a rate of no more than 60% of the total solid waste volume. Why is it reduced to 50% in this version?"

Seeing that she did not refuse Sun Chengze's visit, Song Mu did not continue the topic and replied:

"Vice President Zhang went to talk to the disposal company. Although the total processing capacity has increased by five percentage points, the overall hazardous waste processing volume has not changed much."

Tang Ruxin closed the folder and said, "Old Zhang works so hard, he's practically slapping himself bald. Ask the Operations Department to verify the data. We're having a major overhaul this June, and many units will need catalyst replacements. The amount of hazardous waste generated will definitely be higher than last year. Verify that this amount can be covered, otherwise the Operations Department will be burdened with the extra processing costs at the end of the year."

"Okay." Song Mu put the folder into his backpack.

"Reject Sun Chengze for me." Tang Ruxin said as she opened another document.

"Okay." Song Mu raised his head. "Hmm? Why?"

"He just received a tip from the police and knows this matter has nothing to do with production safety. He acted too arrogantly and spoke harshly before, and now he's trying to make amends." Tang Ruxin was multitasking, pointing to a line of words on the document in her hand. "I previously said that the quota for reporting violations for each device should be removed. Why is it still mentioned in this system?"

She closed the document and tossed it to Song Mu, who took it, marked it with a pen, and put it in his backpack.

"Let him make up for it. We can't give him no way out. We will have many dealings with each other in the future."

"We have to give him a way out so he can't make up for it." Tang Ruxin stopped talking and glanced at Song Mu. "Do you know what to do?"

"Got it. I'll go get ready. What's the time?"

Tang Ruxin thought for a moment and said, "The night after tomorrow."

"Ah? The doctor said you can only be discharged in three days." Song Mu frowned.

"So, the night after tomorrow," Tang Ruxin typed on the computer, "if you're going to kneel, then kneel with sincerity and maximize the cost-effectiveness."

Song Mu couldn't help but sigh inwardly: "Why not you be the director?" He'd been publicly slapped in the face, and now he was letting the person who slapped him down step on his shoulders to get out of this situation. He was truly adaptable. He'd thought that Sun Chengze's visit, and the hospital's commercial flirtations, would resolve the rift. He'd been too narrow-minded.

"Who else do you want to invite to attend?" Song Mu asked.

Tang Ruxin raised her head, poked her chin with the pen cap, thought for a moment, and said, "Please ask Sun Chengdong. Our General Manager Yu must go. Say hello to the investigation team; we'll have to rely on them for the rest of the process. As for the others, ask General Manager Yu for his opinion."

Song Mu was efficient and immediately took out his cell phone to contact someone outside.

Tang Ruxin read quickly, and without Song Mu around to interrupt her, her work efficiency was much higher. When Song Mu returned from his call, Tang Ruxin had not only finished processing the dozen or so documents, but had also thoughtfully helped him put them all in his backpack so he could easily pick them up and leave.

Song Mu subconsciously began to reflect on whether he was an eyesore to her and why she was so anxious to get him out.

Tang Ruxin pointed at his backpack, then at the ward door, and said with a smile:

"See you tomorrow."

Looking at the ward door closed by Song Mu from the outside, Tang Ruxin threw off the quilt and got out of bed. She changed into a hooded sweatshirt, covered her head and sneaked out of the hospital.

She didn't care if there was a murderer or who the murderer was, as long as the police cared. Once the company completed the production qualification review and the production expansion plan, everything would be easy.

Tang Ruxin wasn't known for her empathy. She had a clear dividing line when it came to emotional engagement. When it came to things or people she couldn't reach, or that required a significant price to pay, she would carefully consider whether her time and energy were sufficient to sustain her emotional investment. However, she had a bad habit that significantly affected her emotional control: she protected her shortcomings.

Tang Ruxin had always considered Donghe Refining her own kingdom. After all, it was the products of this kingdom that had raised her. Now that someone had killed someone from Donghe Refining, to Tang Ruxin, it was like killing the people of her kingdom.

Touching the people under her jurisdiction is no different from stepping on her head and shitting on it.

——I can’t tolerate it.
