Chapter 20
There was a knock on the doctor's office door, and Tang Ruxin, wearing a loose blue and white striped hospital gown and looking pale, stood outside the door.
Yu Zhe thought that she came here dressed like this in order to make it easier to retreat in order to advance, but he didn't expect that Tang Ruxin's next words would make him so angry that his blood pressure soared.
Tang Ruxin not only explained to Chen's parents the knowledge about the division of accident responsibilities in the "Work Safety Law", but also emphasized the different impacts of seriously injured employees' vital signs remaining for more than seven days on the company and their families, as well as the differences in the difficulty of determining work-related injuries.
In short, if Chen Junan had survived seven days, the company would have had the opportunity to minimize its safety responsibilities and the subsequent financial compensation would have been much lower.
"Tang Ruxin!" Yu Zhe shouted angrily, with veins bulging on his forehead.
Chen's parents didn't fully understand her words, but they roughly understood that the company's efforts to save Chen Jun'an weren't purely out of kindness. But so what? They couldn't give up their son's life just for compensation or to make the company bear sufficient responsibility.
Yu Zhe saw that Tang Ruxin treated him like air, so he suppressed his anger and said patiently to the two old men:
"Mr. Chen, no matter what the company's original intention was, my desire for Chen Junan to survive is the same as yours. We have the same interests, so why should we care about what the company is for? Am I right?"
"Then what?" Tang Ruxin turned to look at him, her eyes calm, as if asking about the progress of an unimportant work.
Yu Zhe was so upset that he wanted to shut her up.
"After seven days, what else will the company provide to Chen Junan besides the work injury compensation required by law?" Tang Ruxin asked calmly. Seeing Yu Zhe's frustrated look as if he didn't dare to say anything, she felt much better.
The two elderly men in their sixties looked at each other with tears in their eyes, and saw entanglement and pain in each other's eyes.
Yu Zhe gritted his teeth, rushed forward, grabbed Tang Ruxin's arm and tried to drag her out of the doctor's office.
Tang Ruxin's arm ached. She was already running a fever, and the sudden tug sent a buzzing sensation through her head. She closed her eyes to ease the dizziness and tried to push Yu Zhe away, but she found she couldn't free his grip.
Tang Ruxin raised her head with rapid breathing, staring at Yu Zhe with cold eyes, while bending her fingers and digging hard into a certain part of his arm.
Yu Zhe's entire body froze, as if he were under a spell, unable to move an inch. Even his breathing was stagnant for a few breaths. After a moment, he slowly loosened his grip and dejectedly took two steps back.
The dead memory suddenly awakened, striking a dull pain in his heart. He could plot and scheme to torment Tang Ruxin, he could ridicule and curse her, sabotage her, but he couldn't take action.
This is Tang Jiulin's bottom line, and he tested it out.
When he was thirteen, Tang Ruxin, his constant rival, stepped on his toes. In a rage, he slapped her, and she immediately lunged at him, biting his arm, leaving a bloody mark. Had the servants not arrived in time, a brawl would have ensued.
The servant reported Tang Jiulin who was on a business trip that day.
Tang Jiulin didn't say anything at the time. After returning home, he called the school and requested a week's leave. Every day that week, he was slapped—hard, hard. He'll never forget those seven days of humiliation. His cheeks were bruised and swollen, leaving him unable to open his mouth to eat.
After that, he understood the difference between him and Tang Ruxin in Tang Jiulin's heart. In fact, he had known it for a long time, but he just ignored it deliberately - Tang Jiulin never mentioned that he change his last name to Tang.
In order to remind him, Tang Ruxin deliberately scratched the place where she bit him.
Yu Zhe took a deep breath, suppressed the emotions aroused by the past, and whispered:
"Let's talk."
"Wait until I'm done talking to them," Tang Ruxin said, "you get out."
Everyone in the room had different expressions, especially the executives from other departments. They were surprised by Tang Ruxin's tough stance towards Yu Zhe. According to Director Tang's usual style, he would never confront Yu Zhe head-on, let alone engage in physical confrontation.
Yu Zhe took a deep breath and slowly exhaled. He then called several other executives out of the doctor's office. Seeing this, the doctor excused himself to go on rounds, leaving Tang Ruxin some time to talk.
It was already early morning, and the corridors of the hospital's inpatient department were deserted. Yu Zhe dismissed the executives, saying that his presence was sufficient. After they left, Yu Zhe immediately pressed his ear to the half-open door, hoping to hear what Tang Ruxin had to say.
At this moment, Song Mu suddenly came hurriedly with a folder.
Yu Zhe then remembered that when he and Tang Ruxin had just clashed, Tang Ruxin, the loyal dog, was not there. It turned out that Tang Ruxin had been sent to get something. Yu Zhe stopped the person with one hand and grabbed the folder with the other.
Song Mu immediately hid the folder behind him and bowed ninety degrees to Yu Zhe.
"Hello, General Manager Yu!"
The shout instantly drew the attention of everyone around. A passing nurse said in dissatisfaction, "Please keep your voice down. This is a hospital."
"Oh, sorry, sorry, I'll be more careful next time." Song Mu apologized to the nurse while walking past Yu Zhe, pushed open the door of the doctor's office, slipped in, and closed the door tightly.
Yu Zhe was so angry that his cheeks hurt. He cursed Song Mu's ancestors in his heart. After hesitating for a while, he called Tang Jiulin.
After the call was connected, Yu Zhe exaggerated Tang Ruxin's disloyal behavior and concealed the fact that he had a physical conflict with Tang Ruxin.
Tang Jiulin was silent for a moment on the other end of the phone and asked:
"What do you want to say?"
Yu Zhe was stunned and explained, "I mean Ruxin..."
"Where's the conclusion?" Tang Jiulin interrupted him, "You're rushing to complain without even seeing the conclusion, are you?"
Yu Zhe was speechless. He had been so irritated by Tang Ruxin and Song Mu that he had lost his mind and made such a low-level mistake. In front of Tang Jiulin, all reports had to start with the conclusion. Tang Jiulin never listened to the process or the reasons unless he asked.
Yu Zhe waited outside the door for as long as Tang Ruxin talked with Chen's parents.
When the door opened again, the expressions of the two elders in the Chen family had clearly changed, becoming less helpless and more resolute. Tang Ruxin followed them out, Song Mu's suit jacket draped over her shoulders, her cheeks flushed and her expression weary.
"You guys talk." Tang Ruxin said, and left with Song Mu's help.
Yu Zhe subconsciously wanted to stop him, but Chen's parents immediately grabbed his arms and said rudely:
"General Manager Yu, we demand a written commitment from the company to permanently cover Chen Junan's medical expenses at current rates, otherwise we will abandon his treatment."
Yu Zhe looked at Chen Junan's parents in shock, suspecting he was hallucinating. What on earth could Tang Ruxin have said to them that could have given them such a bizarre idea?
In the following period, no matter how Yu Zhe explained, such a request could not be supported by law, and the company had no system or practice to implement such expenditure.
The old couple were determined to have the doctor kill Chen Junan if he didn't agree. They said that since there was little hope of Chen Junan waking up, and no chance of recovery, a short pain was better than a long one.
"We're not unreasonable people. You don't have to make a decision right away. Give us an answer within two days. We'll use these two days to say goodbye to our son..."
As they spoke, the two old men burst into tears again.
Yu Zhe wished he could call Tang Jiulin right now and tell him that he had reached a conclusion - Tang Ruxin was a traitor!
