Chapter 34

Chapter 34

Tang Ruxin wasn't an ignorant girl; she understood how inappropriate their position was, but she couldn't help it. Her brain was already in a state of shutdown, and she subconsciously didn't want Yu Lei to see the person behind the pillar, nor did she want the person behind the pillar to see her.

The hand that reached out from behind the pillar several times and patted Yu Zhe's shoulder belonged to Tong Jiayu. Her palm was bandaged, and on the wide white tape at the edge of the bandage were three crooked hearts painted with lipstick. From a distance, only three red dots could be seen on the back of her hand, but they matched the pattern she had painted.

If someone happens to have gauze wrapped around his hand and three red dots in the same position on it, such a coincidence does not exist.

Tang Ruxin didn't know why she was hiding, nor why she didn't want Yu Lei to see Tong Jiayu. Her mind was in a state of confusion, and before she could think, her body had already made a decision - to stop her first.

As for why, we will talk about it later.

"Who is that person over there?" Yu Lei asked in a low voice.

"Yu Zhe's little wife."

"?"

"She thinks I'm having an affair with Yu Zhe."

“???”

"If she sees it, she'll definitely think I'm pestering Yu Zhe and making a lot of noise, which will be annoying."

"Do you take me for a fool?" Yu Lei pushed her away in shock, suspecting that this green tea girl was playing a trick on him.

Tang Ruxin smiled and turned back to the passenger seat, tidying her hair. "Did you see that?"

Yu Lei sat up and looked at her speechlessly.

"It was just a joke." Tang Ruxin took out her lipstick and continued to touch up her makeup. "Who told you to park the car here and fall asleep without waking me up? I had an appointment and you delayed me."

Yu Lei continued to look at her silently, with no concealment of inquiry and scrutiny in his eyes.

"Are you really angry?" Tang Ruxin leaned over, leaning close to his face and smiling, "I really don't know who that person is over there. The pillars are blocking the view. I just don't want to be seen by Yu Zhe. I'm too lazy to deal with him."

Seeing that Yu Lei still looked worried, Tang Ruxin said with a half-smile, "Don't believe me? Okay, wait."

She immediately called Yu Zhe.

"Mr. Yu, who was the person you met in the hospital's underground parking lot just now?"

There was silence for two seconds on the other end of the phone, then the call was hung up without a single word to her.

Tang Ruxin spread her hands towards Yu Lei, her face full of innocence, "I tried my best."

Yu Lei knew that he would not be able to get an answer from her today, although he already had a rough guess. He actually thought that his "sacrifice" would win her some honesty. How could he not think that?

"Tong Jiayu?" Yu Lei tilted his head and straightened the back of his chair, speaking seemingly unintentionally.

Tang Ruxin's smile faded a little, and the corners of her mouth barely maintained an upward angle.

"The person who has an appointment with you." Yu Lei added.

"……yes."

"It just so happens that I have something to ask her."

The elevator in the hospital basement leads directly to the outpatient building. Go out from the first-floor gate of the outpatient building, bypass the medical technology building and the emergency building to reach the inpatient department, which is about a twenty-minute walk.

The twenty minutes of walking were agonizing. Tang Ruxin practically flew, her high heels practically sending sparks flying. As they crossed the cobblestone path between the flowerbeds, Yu Lei thought she'd twist her ankle several times, but she'd managed to get through it with ease. This core was so stable it would have made the police station's list.

"It's late anyway, why rush?" Yu Lei couldn't help asking after entering the elevator of the surgical inpatient building.

Tang Ruxin turned a deaf ear to the call and stared at the floor numbers ticking on the elevator buttons. As soon as the elevator door opened, she immediately rushed out and ran into the ward.

Tong Jiayu was playing a mobile game. When she looked up and saw Tang Ruxin coming in, she immediately threw her phone away and shouted happily:

"Xin Mama!"

"Are you in such good spirits?" Tang Ruxin blinked and winked at her.

Tong Jiayu was stunned. Before she could understand what Tang Ruxin meant, she saw Yu Lei walk in with his hands in his pockets, chewing gum.

"Yu Lei, why are you here?" She looked surprised and lifted the quilt to get out of bed.

Tang Ruxin hurriedly held her down. What the hell was this silly girl laughing at? Your male god is here to interrogate you. Tang Ruxin wanted to pry open her head and see if there was Yangtze River water boiling inside.

At this moment, Tong Jiayu only had Yu Lei in her eyes, and she didn't care about Tang Ruxin's anxiety and anger.

"Sit down." Tong Jiayu patted the side of the bed and said to Yu Lei with a smile.

Yu Lei pretended not to notice, pulled a chair over to the wall and sat down, then took out a notebook and pen from his pocket. "I want to ask you something. This isn't a police inquiry, just a chat between friends."

"Are you having a fever?" Tang Ruxin reached out and touched her forehead, her eyes filled with disappointment.

"No." Tong Jiayu blinked, pulled Tang Ruxin's hand down and pulled her to sit on the edge of the bed, then smiled and whispered in her ear: "I didn't expect Yu Lei to come to see me, I'm so happy!"

The sound was not loud, but it was loud enough for Yu Lei to hear. However, Yu Lei had the expression of an old monk in meditation, and he lowered his eyes to read his tattered little notebook.

"As far as I know, the script for your emergency drill was co-written by all members of your team, and the roles assigned to each person were also determined in advance. Is that right?" Yu Lei asked while making notes in a notebook.

"Yes, but every time I just play the role of an injured employee and wait to be rescued." Tong Jiayu knew everything and answered quickly.

"Why?" Yu Lei looked up at her.

"Because I don't know how to do anything." Tong Jiayu shrugged nonchalantly. "I don't know how to save people, and I don't know how to save equipment. I'm short and my weight is okay, so it's easy to lift me on a stretcher."

Yu Lei nodded and wrote the four words "fix the injured" on the notebook.

"You should know that we investigated you before."

Tong Jiayu looked disappointed and said, "I know. Someone asked the squad leader and other colleagues. They all told me."

"Because you are the victim this time, your suspicion has been largely ruled out. Do you know about this?" Yu Lei looked at Tong Jiayu's face.

Tong Jiayu's eyes suddenly lit up and he became energetic.

"Really? That's great!" She grabbed Tang Ruxin's arm and shook it. "I'm fine!"

Tang Ruxin couldn't be happy, but she couldn't bear to spoil her mood, so she smiled along. Tong Jiayu was fine, but there was no hope for her.

Zhou Jiyao insists the accident was caused by work negligence, and the police's evidence is insufficient to prove the furnace explosion was intentional. The evidence against Zhou Jiyao is almost entirely focused on Liu Dong's case, and even Chen Junan's fall cannot be effectively linked. Without sufficient motive and irrefutable evidence, it's unlikely that Zhou Jiyao could be charged with blowing up the device he was responsible for.

Whether Yu Lei signed the accident report or not was irrelevant. From the moment the board decided to suspend her, she was already the person responsible. Even if evidence was eventually found proving that someone had done it intentionally, her local management responsibility would not be waived.

The position of security director is no longer her destiny.

Tang Ruxin suddenly felt a little bored. Why was she worrying so much? Tong Jiayu and Yu Zhe were meeting each other. She had already been pushed to the bottom. Could it be that Yu Zhe was going to kill her and poison her? Tong Jiayu couldn't agree to that.

Forget it, I won’t be a light bulb anymore. No matter how bright her light bulb is, it can’t illuminate Tong Jiayu’s love-stricken brain.

"I'm thirsty. I'll go buy something to drink." Tang Ruxin got up and went out.

Arriving at the doctor's office, Tang Ruxin asked the attending physician about Tong Jiayu's injuries. After receiving the reply that it was not serious, she left the surgical ward.

Carrying a few bottles of drinks and snacks bought from the vending machine, she found a bench sheltered from the wind and sat down, taking out her cell phone to check messages.

After not checking her phone for over ten hours, she'd accumulated hundreds of messages in the work group chats, but she didn't need to deal with them anymore. She scrolled through several work groups, but there wasn't much new. They were either reviewing regulations or reviewing plans. Tang Ruxin closed her company messenger and opened WeChat.

Compared to instant messaging, there are far fewer messages in WeChat.

She had never had many friends; the comings and goings in her life were all destined to an end. The only person who had stayed long-term, or rather, who she had forced to stay, was Tong Jiayu. It wasn't that there weren't friendships she couldn't let go of; she had tried to hold on, but failed.

Tang Ruxin opened her address book and flipped to the letter "L." She stared at the name that had so elusive, despite all her attempts, been unsuccessful. As she read, a bitter taste welled up on her lips.

The things she cherished, whether people or things, seemed to be short-lived.
