Chapter 38

Chapter 38

After being turned away at Tang Ruxin's house, Yu Zhe was in a very bad mood. He had thought that Tang Ruxin cared about whether the company was named Tang or not, which was why she had been against him. Now it seemed that she was just trying to make things difficult for him. As for who owned the company, she didn't care at all.

In this way, he would have no bargaining chips with Tang Ruxin and would have to find another way.

Yu Zhe lit a cigarette while waiting at a red light, took a deep drag, and slowly started the car. The moment the light turned green, he slammed on the accelerator. Being the first car waiting to cross the zebra crossing was one of his little joys while driving. But such pleasures didn't come around often, as parking in the first parking spot at a zebra crossing wasn't common.

At this moment, the phone rang on the center console display screen next to the steering wheel. He glanced at the screen and answered the call.

"dad."

"Did Ruxin agree?" Tang Jiulin's voice was neither hurried nor slow, just like usual.

Yu Zhe was irritated, but he still said patiently, "You know her..."

"You know me well," Tang Jiulin interrupted him. "I'm already screening third-party appraisal agencies. Once the asset appraisal begins, you won't have a chance."

Yu Zhe took a deep breath, put out the cigarette butt in the car ashtray, and said with determination:

"I can give Nina Tang a stake just 1 percentage point less than mine."

Tang Jiulin on the other end of the phone was silent for a moment, then smiled and said, "I take that back. You don't understand me."

"Dad, you know very well the relationship between Tang Ruxin and me. Why do you have to do this? Not to mention that she can't do it, I can't do it either!" Yu Zhe honked the car horn hard, scaring back the car in front that was trying to cut in.

"Not acting anymore?" Tang Jiulin laughed. "I thought you could play the role of a good brother to the end."

"I only do useful things." If playing the role of a good brother can make Tang Jiulin give up the idea, he doesn't mind continuing.

"Then do as I say. That will be most helpful to you. Get Ruxin to agree to marry you and the company will be named Yu. Otherwise, even if the company is not named Tang, it will not be named Yu."

Tang Jiulin hung up the phone after he finished speaking.

Yu Zhe slammed the steering wheel in frustration, spewing a string of curse words through gritted teeth. He truly couldn't understand what Tang Jiulin was trying to achieve by doing this. If he was worried that he would mistreat Tang Ruxin after taking over the company, he would have been willing to give her shares directly. And what was wrong?

Given his and Tang Ruxin's cockfighting relationship, he was worried he wouldn't be able to make it through their wedding day. Feeling increasingly depressed, Yu Zhe blasted the accelerator of his sports car with a deafening roar, instantly reaching a speed of 140 mph.

Just when Yuzhe was venting his anger by speeding, something the size of a thumb suddenly appeared on his shoulder and quickly moved down his arm.

At the same time, Tang Ruxin helped Tong Jiayu into a taxi and watched her leave.

Tong Jiayu didn't answer her immediately, choosing instead to delay. She said she needed time, and that her current concealment and deception were all for Tang Ruxin's own good. When she had the chance later, she would tell her everything.

Tang Ruxin didn't insist. Just like yesterday at the hospital, she replied calmly, "Okay." She believed Tong Jiayu understood what that word meant, but Tong Jiayu still said nothing.

There is no greater sorrow than the unwillingness to give up. Tang Ruxin never gave anyone so many chances to turn around, but Tong Jiayu insisted on going against the flow without hesitation.

For some reason, Tang Ruxin suddenly remembered the words "A grown-up child is no longer under the control of his mother," and burst out laughing. She felt helpless and sad. All good things must come to an end. No matter how reluctant she was, she had to let go.

Returning to the second floor, when passing by Tong Jiayu's room, Tang Ruxin stopped, pushed the door open, went in, carefully put the photo that she had hurriedly stuffed back in, and adjusted the angle.

She opened the last box she hadn't had time to look at earlier, and was stunned at the first glance. Three seconds later, she closed the box, silently repeating "I'm sorry" several times. She hadn't expected Tong Jiayu to be so open in private.

After putting everything back to normal, Tang Ruxin leaned back on the bed, staring at the ceiling in a daze.

It was so quiet that only the ticking of the wall clock could be heard. She stretched, her hand reaching up, and her fingertips brushed against something furry. Tang Ruxin looked up. A white stuffed rabbit lay beside the pillow on the inside of the bed. It had a large head and a small body, its fur dense and smooth. It looked adorable, clutching a carrot. Its eyes were red, half-hidden in its drooping fur.

Tang Ruxin turned over, pulled the rabbit over, and lay on the bed to smooth its fur. After a while, Tang Ruxin stopped. After a moment, she put the rabbit back in its place, got out of bed, and left Tong Jiayu's room.

Back in her room, Tang Ruxin didn't bother to clean up the snacks and paper airplanes still piled on her bed. After washing up in the bathroom, she sat at the dressing table and put on her makeup as usual before changing and going out.

After getting into the taxi, Tang Ruxin pressed her pounding heart. She realized she was shaking, her knuckles turning white from the force with which she gripped her shoulder bag. She swallowed hard, fished her phone out of her pocket, and before she even reached her contacts, she turned off the screen.

"Driver, can I borrow your phone?" Tang Ruxin tried hard to make her voice sound steady.

However, the driver seemed to have noticed that she was not in a good mood and immediately handed her his phone. Tang Ruxin took it and tried to find the number saved in her phone, but her fingers were not in control and it took several attempts to enter the number correctly.

"Yu Lei, where are you?" Tang Ruxin said immediately the moment the call was connected.

There was a pause on the other end of the phone, as if trying to confirm who was calling.

"Police station, the police are about to be dispatched." Yu Lei seemed to be busy, answering the phone while explaining something to the people around him.

"Is it urgent?" Tang Ruxin held the phone tightly, as if she was afraid the other party would hang up. "If you have time, can you..."

"We don't have time. Keep it short." The sound of a police siren echoed through the phone, followed by the slam of a car door and the sound of Yu Lei talking to someone nearby: "Ask the traffic police for the location."

Tang Ruxin pursed her lips and fell silent. Her original hope was extinguished by Yu Lei's cold voice.

"Hello? Tang Ruxin? Speak." Yu Lei shouted on the other end of the phone.

"...You go ahead and do your work." Tang Ruxin hung up the phone and returned it to the driver.

She pulled her coat around herself, huddled in the back corner of the taxi, her head buried in her arms. Her mind was in a tizzy, and she tried to convince herself not to overthink it, but she couldn't. Unable to deceive herself, unable to face it, she fled, but she didn't know where to go.

He was in a panic and looked so miserable - it was so ugly.

At this moment, her own cell phone vibrated. It was Yu Lei calling.

Tang Ruxin wiped her face, took a deep breath, and then swiped the screen to answer the call.

"Where are you?" This time it was Yu Lei who asked her.

Tang Ruxin looked around blankly, not noticing where she was. She hadn't mentioned where she was going when she got in the car, only asking the driver to drive to a crowded area.

"I don't know..." Tang Ruxin said hesitantly.

"Have you been kidnapped? You don't even know where you are. Send me your location and I'll pick you up now."

"Pick me up, where to go?" Tang Ruxin was as confused as if she had just woken up.

"Yu Zhe was in a car accident and was rushed to the hospital. There's something fishy about the scene, so the traffic police have requested a joint investigation. Do you want to go?"
