Chapter 63

Chapter 63

After escaping danger, Tang Ruxin became unusually silent, barely speaking except when answering questions from the police and doctors. She would either quietly look at her phone or gaze out the window, her expression wooden and exhausted.

Tang Jiulin and Luo Yi came to see her, and after just a few words, they noticed something was wrong with her. The doctor replied that they had given her a full physical examination, and aside from the blow to the head, which required a few days of observation, everything else was normal. Perhaps she was upset and didn't want to talk.

After saying this, the doctor left Tang Ruxin's ward.

"Why don't we ask a psychiatrist to take a look?" Luo Yi said.

Without waiting for Tang Jiulin's reply, Tang Ruxin looked up at Luo Yi, a smile on her lips. Luo Yi had never seen such an expression on her face before. She was clearly smiling, but it was even colder than if she weren't smiling at all.

"Teacher, can you tell me the answers to those two questions?"

Luo Yi's face darkened and he subconsciously glanced at Tang Jiulin.

He was silent for a moment and said, "I still have a video conference, you should have a good rest."

Then Tang Ruxin understood that for many questions, not answering them is already an answer.

She looked at Tang Jiulin, the smile on her lips gradually becoming bitter. It was like holding a mouthful of coptis root water, unable to swallow it or spit it out. She just held it between her lips and teeth, savoring the bitterness and astringency every second.

"What's the question?" Tang Jiulin asked curiously, "Is it so difficult to answer that it scared him away?"

Tang Ruxin stopped talking again, just smiled and looked at Tang Jiulin, her eyes fixed on him until he looked uneasy and even wanted to call the doctor back.

"I remember when we were little, you loved me very much. But as I grew up, you began to avoid me, intentionally or unintentionally. Later, you simply fled abroad and even handed the company over to Yu Zhe, even though he didn't have sufficient management skills." Tang Ruxin said slowly, "Why?"

Tang Jiulin's expression changed again and again. He stood up from his chair, walked to the bed, stared at Tang Ruxin's face, and said, "Is this the question you asked Luo Yi just now?"

"no."

Tang Jiulin secretly breathed a sigh of relief, a smile on his face, "You think too much, why would I hide from you? The company wants to expand overseas markets, you know that. Domestic raw materials are in short supply, so we also need to purchase them from outside."

"I'm sorry." Tang Ruxin said suddenly.

Seeing the smile on Tang Jiulin's face froze, she continued, "What do you want me to forgive you for? I've thought about it, and apart from you starting to avoid me after I grew up, you haven't done anything wrong to me. You saved my life, and you gave me everything I have. Why do you want me to forgive you?"

Tang Jiulin pursed his lips and subconsciously looked away, not looking into Tang Ruxin's eyes.

"What are you thinking about all day? If you have some free time, help me take care of the company's affairs. You and Yu Zhe have both quit the company, and I'm so busy. Don't make things worse for me!"

"If you don't tell the truth, your twenty years of hard work will be wasted. The 'accident' at Donghe Refining won't end; it will only intensify. It's just a listing for supervision now, but production will be halted and even sealed off. You won't even have a chance to sell." Tang Ruxin's tone was stern, like an enraged beast, ready to leap and attack at any moment. "The murderer isn't targeting the dead or injured, nor the company, but you."

Tang Jiulin took a deep breath and took a half step back before he could steady himself. "You, what are you talking about... What do you mean by targeting me? If you were targeting me, why didn't you create an accident for me? Why are you playing tricks in the company?"

"You have to ask yourself for the answer. Your company keeps getting accidents, your adopted son was seriously injured in a car accident and is still bedridden, and your adopted daughter was kidnapped and almost couldn't come back. Do you still think all this has nothing to do with you?"

Tang Ruxin's eyes were as red as a rabbit's, but she stubbornly refused to let the tears fall. She raised her hand and pointed at the door of the ward:

"Go look at Liu Dong's body, go look at Chen Jun'an who's in a vegetative state, go look at the two employees who died in the explosion, go look at Yu Zhe who's permanently disabled!" she screamed, her whole body trembling uncontrollably. "What on earth have you done? What on earth have you done?!"

Tang Jiulin's face was pale, as if all the blood had been drained out in an instant, and even the corners of his lips were bloodless.

He immediately turned around and walked away quickly, as if a ghost was chasing him. His crutches were so crooked that he walked in such a panic.

Tang Ruxin knelt on the hospital bed, watching his retreating figure. Her first impression was that Tang Jiulin had aged. When had that stiff back in her memory become so bent? Had she done something wrong? He had raised her, given her wealth and the best education. Now, she was trying to drive him, now aged, to his doom.

My heart felt like it was being squeezed repeatedly by something, and every breath brought a sharp pain.

The wardrobe door in the corner of the ward slowly opened, and a foot stepped out with difficulty, as if it had been stiff for a long time.

Yu Lei straightened up and rubbed his shoulders and neck, which were sore from being crouched for so long. He stretched his waist and said, "Your acting is quite good! Now it's clear that the root of the problem is indeed Tang Jiulin, and Luo Yi knows about it."

Tang Ruxin remained kneeling, staring blankly at the door of the ward. It was a long time before she turned around. Tears were still on her face, but a smile was on her lips.

"Yeah, I'm best at acting. I've been using this trick to tease Yu Zhe since he was little. I can pretend to be in pain, and every time I can get Tang Jiulin to deal with him..."

Before she could finish her words, a warm palm touched her cheek. She was startled, and then she realized that Yu Lei raised his hand to touch her face.

"Stop acting. Smiling is too ugly. If you want to cry, just cry. Don't force yourself to act like nothing happened."

Tang Ruxin lowered her head and buried her face in her arms in embarrassment.

Yu Lei sighed silently, picked up the blanket on the bed and draped it over her shoulders, then sat quietly beside her.

He could now somewhat understand her feelings. Before, he only knew she was torn between Tong Jiayu and the truth, and now there was Tang Jiulin. They were all the people she cared about most, and her pain was understandable, yet he only knew it in theory.

Now that Zhao Zheng's clues suddenly appeared, they also appeared on Liu Wei and Han Yixiao. He could empathize with the feeling of wanting the truth but being afraid of the truth.

Tang Ruxin cried for a long time, but only the tears flowed continuously, with occasional sobs. Yu Lei felt a little regretful that she hadn't burst into tears. In his opinion, only by shouting and yelling could one truly let out their feelings. However, everyone has different habits, so it was good to not hold back.

He'd seen her emotional breakdowns, the physical reactions she'd experience, numbness in her limbs and tremors, which took her a whole night to recover from. Then, she'd be listless for days, silent and withdrawn from the world. Now, being able to cry wasn't a big deal.

——Humans have strong adaptability. Even if a blunt knife is used to pull the flesh, it will not hurt so much after doing it many times.
