Chapter 64

Chapter 64

Because there was no conclusive evidence to prove that Liu Wei and Han Yixiao committed kidnapping, and the victim Tang Ruxin did not request an investigation after escaping danger on her own, Liu Wei and Han Yixiao left the Public Security Bureau 24 hours after being summoned. Only the seven hooligans were administratively punished with the crime of disturbing public order and were detained for seven days, and the matter was left unresolved.

As soon as Liu Wei and Han Yixiao arrived at the dormitory gate, they were startled by the sudden sound of a horn.

The two of them looked at a small van parked on the side of the road. The driver was wearing a black mask and a hat, so his face could not be seen clearly. He waved his right hand at Liu and Han.

The ring on the ring finger of their right hand made the two men's expressions change at the same time. They immediately looked around, confirmed that no one was paying attention to them, and quickly opened the car door and got in.

An hour later, the minivan took them to the forest farm behind Donghe Town. The winter vegetation was withered, and apart from the forest rangers, there was almost no one else in the forest farm.

The van stopped in the yard outside the forest ranger's hut at the foot of the mountain. The driver got out of the car, threw the car keys to the forest ranger in the house, and took Liu Wei and Han Yixiao into the depths of the forest.

The snow in the forest was thick, making the mountain path difficult to navigate. Every step down would lead to a deep pit. The driver walked as if on flat ground, each footfall steady, as if he had done this many times before. Liu Wei and Han Yixiao were not new to the route, but they couldn't compare to his steady pace, stumbling and struggling awkwardly.

Finally they arrived at the cabin deep in the dense forest. Liu Wei and Han Yixiao shook off the snow on their shoes at the door before following in.

A thick, crimson velvet rug lay in front of the door, and the dark brown wooden floorboards cast a dim glow under the gloomy sky. A fire crackled in the side of the cabin, its sole source of light, bringing a touch of warmth to the chilly hut.

Tong Jiayu huddled up beside the stove, her knees curled up, a string of green bodhi flowers twirled in her hand. The fire illuminated the right side of her face, while the left was hidden in darkness.

The driver came into the house without taking off his hat and mask. He came up behind Tong Jiayu, added two thick sticks to the fire, and went into the inner room to find a blanket, which he covered Tong Jiayu's knees with.

"Sister Tong." Liu Wei and Han Yixiao nodded and greeted her.

"Why were you beaten like this?" She raised an eyebrow, as if a little surprised. After the surprise, a smile appeared on her thin lips, but there was no smile in her eyes.

"Don't mention it. It's just our bad luck." Liu Wei touched his bruised and swollen cheek and said with a grin.

"Let's talk about it. I'm quite interested." Tong Jiayu raised her chin and looked at the two of them with interest. "Did you plan this a long time ago, or did you just suddenly come up with the idea to kidnap Tang Ruxin?"

Liu Wei looked at Han Yixiao with some embarrassment. This was his idea, but Han Yixiao also had some credit for it.

"I didn't intend to kidnap her, I just happened to meet her. I thought that she was the one who messed up the Song Mu incident and caused me to be in jail for so many days, so I just wanted to vent my anger..." Han Yixiao pointed at Liu Wei and continued, "That's Brother Liu. He said that Tang Ruxin eavesdropped on his phone call with you, and we can't let her go."

Liu Wei immediately explained, "She did eavesdrop. It was the phone call the night before last. She must have figured out by now that we were the ones who planted the bomb on the device. Even if she can't find evidence to accuse us, she'll definitely fire us."

Tong Jiayu was still smiling, staring at Liu Wei intently, and said, "So that's how it is. How did you tie it? Tell me in detail."

So Liu Wei started by talking about how he discovered Tang Ruxin was eavesdropping, then talked about how he saw Han Yixiao and Tang Ruxin fighting, then talked about how he knocked her out and pretended to be drunk to take her to the warehouse, and then talked about how he was beaten up by a group of hooligans and forced to tell the address of the warehouse.

"I definitely couldn't tell the police I was beaten because those thugs wanted to know Tang Ruxin's whereabouts. I could only collude with them and say I owed money. I was really stuck in silence..."

Tong Jiayu propped her chin up with her fingers, listened to him with a smile, and asked, "Anything else?"

"That's all." Liu Wei blinked, not understanding what else Tong Jiayu wanted to know.

"After you kidnapped Tang Ruxin, didn't you touch her?"

"No. We still have some sense of the severity of this. If we really touch her, it will not end well. Not only will there be evidence left, but Tang Jiulin will not let it go either." Liu Wei immediately waved his hand and said.

Hearing this, Tong Jiayu shifted her gaze from Liu Wei's face and looked at the green Bodhi bracelet in her hand.

"Do you smoke?" Tong Jiayu asked as she picked up the white medicine bottle on the table beside her, poured out two pills, put them in her mouth, chewed them a few times, and swallowed them.

Liu Wei and Han Yixiao looked at each other. Did he just remember to entertain them?

Without waiting for their response, Tong Jiayu wrapped the bracelet around her wrist, picked up the cigarette and lighter beside her, and stood up. She slowly walked over to Liu Wei, took out a cigarette, and held it to his lips.

Liu Wei looked at her expression and felt a little uneasy for some reason, but he still subconsciously opened his mouth to answer.

Tong Jiayu lit a cigarette for him and also lit one for Han Yixiao. Then she stood in front of them and waited for a moment, as if waiting for them to finish smoking.

Liu Wei and Han Yixiao were a little at a loss. They had been with her for so many years, but when had they ever enjoyed the treatment of having the boss personally light a cigarette for them? They took a few puffs in a hurry.

The next moment, Tong Jiayu reached out and took the cigarette from Han Yixiao's mouth.

"Which hand hit Tang Ruxin?"

Han Yixiao was startled, cold sweat instantly breaking out from every pore on his back. He hurriedly looked at Liu Wei, his face full of panic.

Tong Jiayu held up a cigarette and looked at him with a smile.

Liu Wei quickly took the cigarette out of his mouth and stepped forward to persuade her: "Sister Tong, he is ignorant, don't bother with him. I will beat him up later, beat him hard, and you can forgive him for this...ah!"

Before Liu Wei finished speaking, Tong Jiayu had already put out the cigarette on the back of his hand.

Han Yixiao immediately reached out, trying to grab Tong Jiayu's hand holding the cigarette. However, before he could touch Tong Jiayu, his arm was twisted behind his back, and in an instant, he was forced to a half-kneeling position on the ground. The force was so strong that it seemed to wrench his arm off. Han Yixiao screamed in pain, and veins popped on his forehead.

"Pick it up." Tong Jiayu said to Liu Wei in a gentle voice.

Liu Wei's cigarette had fallen to the ground. Hearing this, he had no choice but to endure the burning pain on the back of his hand, squatted on the ground, picked up the cigarette and handed it to Tong Jiayu.

She took it, turned to look at Han Yixiao, and said, "You two are three wrong in this matter. First, even if Tang Ruxin heard the content of our conversation, she can't do anything to you without evidence. At most, she can fire you. You shouldn't have made trouble and attracted the police."

As soon as the words were spoken, the half-smoked cigarette fell on Han Yixiao's hand that was not twisted, causing him to scream in pain and beg for mercy.

"Second, you kidnapped Tang Ruxin and didn't notify me immediately."

Tong Jiayu lit a cigarette, took a deep breath, and put it out in Liu Wei's other hand. He gritted his teeth and said nothing, sweat already dripping down his forehead.

"Third, you couldn't withstand the beating and let Tang Ruxin escape."

As the words fell, another cigarette was extinguished on the back of Han Yixiao's hand.

"Ah - Sister Tong, Sister Tong, I was wrong! I will never again... Sister Tong, please forgive me. Sister Tong..."

Tong Jiayu turned around and sat back on the chair with her knees curled up. The green Bodhi bracelet on her wrist slipped off and she rubbed it between her fingertips.

"I'm also responsible for this. I never told you my bottom line." Tong Jiayu picked up the blanket and covered her legs. "Remember this from now on. No matter what happens, don't touch Tang Ruxin. Not even a finger. Am I clear?"

"Clear, clear..."

Liu Wei and Han Yixiao each covered the back of their painful hands and struggled to stand up from the ground.

"If it weren't for the fact that you've already been beaten, you two would have to leave me one arm today."

Tong Jiayu said this jokingly, but Liu Wei and Han Yixiao felt their scalps tingling and their hearts beating like drums, and they repeatedly promised that they would never do anything wrong again.

The driver opened the door and motioned them to leave.

Tong Jiayu pulled the blanket higher, as if the wind from opening the door would chill her to the bone.

Seeing this, the driver immediately closed the door tightly, leaving no gaps. He turned around and came to Tong Jiayu's side, squatted down and looked at her, his eyes full of worry.

"Take it off. Isn't it uncomfortable to hold it in your arms?" Tong Jiayu said, looking tired.

He hesitated for a moment and was about to shake his head when Tong Jiayu took off his hat. She stretched out her fingers, hooked the mask string behind his ear, and slowly took it off. Then she held his face and said with a smile:

"It's such a shame to cover up such a beautiful face... Ding Xinqiao."
