Chapter 73
In the middle of the night, Yu Lei returned home reeking of alcohol. His hands and feet were unresponsive, and he stumbled into the house, knocking his keychain off the shoe cabinet.
Tang Ruxin, who was not yet asleep, came out of the bedroom and turned on the light in the living room. She saw the drunk man bending over, trying to pick up the key that he had kicked against the wall.
"I woke you up." Yu Lei murmured, squinting his eyes and carefully placing the key on the tray, as if he was sick.
"How many dishes have you drunk so much?" Tang Ruxin was helpless. She went forward and helped him sit on the sofa. Then she went to the kitchen and poured him a glass of honey water. This was the limit of what she could do. She would not do anything else.
Yu Lei leaned back against the sofa, his hands spread out in a straight line, his eyes fixed on the ceiling. The drunken blush stretched from his cheeks to the corners of his eyes, as if he had been severely bullied.
"I thought you were working overtime, but it turns out you were drinking overtime." Tang Ruxin shook her head and began to pull at his clothes.
Yu Lei grabbed her wrist, frowned, and said in a nasal voice, "What are you doing?"
"What can I do? I can sleep with you!" She said angrily, with a look of disgust on her face: "Help you take off your clothes. If you're drunk, go to bed quickly. Don't bother me in the middle of the night."
"I'm not that drunk, don't touch me!" Yu Lei pushed her away with force. The drunk didn't hold back and just swung Tang Ruxin on the coffee table with one arm.
After a scream, the cups, plates and other items on the coffee table fell to the ground.
Yu Lei was half sobered up by the fright, and he hurriedly got up to pull Tang Ruxin.
"I'm sorry! I was careless. Are you hurt?"
Tang Ruxin's elbow was scraped open, and the pain made tears well up in her eyes. She raised her hand and slapped Yu Lei, cursing angrily:
"You fucking... you're drunk! Hitting a woman? You're crazy! How dare you hit me?"
Slaps, punches, and kicks kept coming down, but Yu Lei didn't dodge or block, just held his neck erect and let her hit him. Until she kicked him in the shin, she screamed in pain and jumped away.
She is the one who feels pain when she gets beaten, and she is also the one who feels pain when she beats others. Is there any justice in this world?
A pair of hands reached out from behind her and embraced her. The breath in her ears was warm and moist, with a strong smell of alcohol.
Tang Ruxin's scalp was about to explode - it was over, this bastard was drunk and wanted to be a beast instead of a human. Just when she was thinking about calling the police or running for her life, Yu Lei's voice rang in her ears.
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry, it's all my fault... It's my fault. I know it's me..."
The pajamas were thin, and Tang Ruxin instantly felt her shoulders getting wet.
——Yulei, are you crying?
It was indeed his fault, but she was a little surprised that he regretted it to this extent. As for crying bitterly?
"What happened?" She wanted to turn around, but the drunk was too strong and she couldn't move.
"Zhao Lan, I'm sorry... Tell me, why am I such a bastard? Why am I, so..." Yu Lei's voice was intermittent, his face buried in her shoulder and neck, so he couldn't hear what he was saying.
Tang Ruxin understood. He wasn't apologizing to her, but to Zhao Zheng. He hadn't been seen for the past few days, so he must have found out something. He couldn't think of anything else that involved Zhao Zheng that he could vent about through alcohol.
"What should I do? I can't pay it back, I will never be able to pay it back in my lifetime... What should I do?" Yu Lei choked and howled in pain and despair like a beast that had been stabbed.
Tang Ruxin was at a loss, not knowing what to do.
She tried to recall what Yu Lei had done when she had her breakdown. It seemed he hadn't done anything at the time...he had just been talking sense. But she didn't know what had happened, so she couldn't rely on explanations.
"Or...you tell me what happened first?" As soon as she finished speaking, Tang Ruxin knew that she was talking nonsense. How could she expect a drunk to explain the whole story?
Well, I’m bound to suffer a loss tonight.
Tang Ruxin turned around with all her strength, put her arms around Yu Lei's waist and back, and raised her chin to rest on his shoulder to prevent herself from being suffocated by him. She patted his back and whispered:
"Okay, hug me, and you won't cry anymore."
She tried to reach the back of his head, but couldn't because the man's back was a bit thick.
"... Really, what a burly, whimpering monster! If you cry again, I'll record it for you."
Perhaps it was her comfort or the last threat that worked, but Yu Lei's breathing gradually became steady.
Tang Ruxin struggled to move him to lie on the sofa, then undressed him while cursing. In the end, he still had to take off his clothes, so it was all in vain that he pushed her.
Pulling the blanket over Yu Lei, she looked at him quietly for a moment, then reached out and wiped the moisture from the corners of his eyes.
The next day, it was almost noon when Tang Ruxin opened her eyes. There was no other living thing in the room except her.
If it weren't for the warm breakfast on the dining table and the neatly tidied coffee table, she would have suspected she had dreamed the night before. Apparently, the whimpering monster hadn't lost its memory and knew what it had done, otherwise it wouldn't have given up on its principle of having breakfast and not come to wake her up.
While eating what was passed off as lunch, Tang Ruxin received an invitation to the annual meeting from Song Mu, along with one from Yu Lei. Compared to Zhou Xiang, Song Mu was Tang Ruxin's top priority.
Tang Ruxin looked at the two invitations, feeling strange. The distance wasn't far, so why did Song Mu ask for a courier? Why didn't he just deliver it himself? After a moment, she finally realized that she had sent Song Mu the address of Yu Lei's home and Yu Lei's contact information.
That is to say... Song Mu thought she and Yu Lei were living together.
Tang Ruxin pondered for a moment, hesitating between explaining clearly and letting it go, then decided to forget it. She wouldn't bring it up unless Song Mu asked, and she would only talk about it if he did.
She took a photo of the invitation and sent it to Yu Lei, asking him to make time to go with her to the company's anniversary celebration, as an apology for his inhumane behavior last night.
Yu Lei, who had received the message, wanted to refuse, but after seeing this, he had no choice but to agree. He found that he was being completely controlled by the Zhao siblings. Zhao Zheng was fine, he deserved it, but why was Zhao Lan so difficult to deal with?
At this time, Yu Lei was looking at Ding Xinqiao's information.
As he'd expected, Ding Xinqiao was from the Balingshan Welfare Home in Tong'an Township. The lack of records of him stemmed from a lack of records in the orphanage's archives, as the information on a significant portion of the children was lost during the demolition. If Ding Xinqiao hadn't reported the case to the police and left a police record, it would have been difficult to track down his whereabouts.
The case he reported was child abuse at an orphanage. However, he was too young at the time to know the importance of preserving evidence or keeping it secret. Before the police could even open an investigation, he was forced to drop the case. Fortunately, the local police kept the records intact.
This clue also indirectly proves that what Zhao Zheng said is likely to be true and is not a fabrication to make him shut up.
Ding Xinqiao is an expert, with above-average predictive and executive abilities. Coupled with his professional knowledge and status, a place like a refining plant is simply a comfort zone for him. We must get this guy out of Donghe Refining.
"Chen Jingzhou, take this letter to the Municipal Emergency Management Bureau's Discipline Inspection and Supervision Department. Don't let anyone see it."
"Don't let anyone see it?" Chen Jingzhou took the letter and took a look at it. "Report letter? Who is this reporting?"
Yu Lei looked at him quietly for a moment, then said, "Your brain is as good as new. You've never used it at all, right?"
It was Ding Xinqiao. Chen Jingzhou realized it and ran away with a smile.
