The library was quiet at 1 p.m., with no one in the hall except for the administrator who was sleeping soundly on the table near the door.
Seeing that there was no one around, Makoto Sakaki waved his hand and quickly slipped out with Miss Miyano, Akai Mary, and Kid who was carrying a huge plastic bag.
A gust of wind blew by, and the librarian looked up sleepily, rubbed his sleepy eyes, looked blankly at the empty surroundings, yawned, and thought it was his own illusion, so he buried his head and continued to take a nap.
After leaving the library, Sakaki Makoto and the other three first returned to the car parked in the corner of the campus, put the files into the trunk, and then rushed to the club department.
The Society Department of Gunma University is located in the northwest corner of the campus. Poplar trees with orange-yellow leaves are planted on both sides of the road, looking like a bed of blooming sunflowers from a distance.
Sakaki stopped a student who was passing by with a tennis racket and asked where the old school building was. After getting a definite answer, he walked straight along Yangshu Road for more than ten minutes before he saw an open space surrounded by barbed wire behind the club buildings on both sides.
And in the center of the open space, a black school building stood quietly.
Hanging from the wire mesh was a wooden board with the following words written in red paint:
【Entry prohibited】
Compared with other places in Gunma University, this old school building can no longer be called an antique. The doors and windows are wide open, and not a single piece of glass can be seen. It looks like the gaping mouth of a devil, eerie and terrifying.
There is no need for any renovation, it can be directly operated as a haunted house.
"Except for the same outline, there is really no trace of the original..."
Akai Mary took out the photos she found in the basement of the library, compared them and said:
"Back then, the school building was painted white, with green creepers on the walls and cherry trees planted all around. It was a peaceful and tranquil place, but now it has become a run-down building that no one cares about."
“You can’t say no one cares.”
Sakaki Makoto shook his head and pointed to the empty ground around the house and said:
"Although this place has been abandoned for many years and the school has not renovated it, there are still people cleaning it. Look at the ground around, the weeds have just grown and there are very few fallen leaves, which means someone has been here not long ago."
"Are you saying that Gunma University did not demolish this old school building not because it forgot about it, but for another reason?"
"How would I know that... Anyway, the old school building is also one of the birthplaces of Gunma University. The buildings from a hundred years ago are still standing today and have a certain research value. Which university doesn't have archaeology and architecture majors? Isn't this a ready-made model?"
For a school building built entirely of wood to exist for more than a hundred years, its building materials and design structure are definitely extraordinary. But then again, Japan is indeed strong when it comes to building houses with wood.
"Brother Kidd, go over and see if the barbed wire has electricity."
"...You are so cruel."
Kidd gritted his teeth, took out an electrician's ammeter from his pocket, walked to the wire fence, measured it, turned around and said:
"It's impossible that there is no electricity. This old school building is only a few dozen meters away from the club's activity area. If there is electricity, what if an accident happens?"
"Well, you're right, let's go in."
The barbed wire entrance door had been pried open. Judging from the crude and fresh marks on it, it was probably done by Conan and his friends. If you want to know why...
Because the lock was smashed open with a stone, with no skill at all, Kidd curled his lips when he saw it.
"I seriously suspect that little Conan is addicted to invading other people's homes!"
When the four of them walked into the yard, Kidd was still complaining:
"When he's solving a case, he likes to go to people's bedrooms, study rooms, and the like. He takes advantage of the fact that he's a child and does whatever he wants. At most, he gets beaten up!"
"Special times call for special measures..."
Sakaki Makoto said indifferently:
"When we went to the United States, didn't we also illegally invade the Hughes family's estate? There were only two of us when we went there, but when we came out, there were three of us, and we also earned a car..."
"What are you saying? I'm a thief. Isn't the reason a thief breaks into someone's house to steal things? It's only natural!"
Kidd looked confident:
"What about Conan? He calls himself a famous detective every day. Which famous detective would act like a thief?"
“.......”
Doesn't Kidd make sense?
No, it was precisely because it made so much sense that Sakaki Makoto didn't know how to respond for a moment.
As they got closer, Sakaki Makoto and his companions felt that the old school building was slowly exuding a gloomy atmosphere. Perhaps it was a psychological effect, but the temperature near the old school building was indeed lower than other places.
"Hey! What are you still standing there for?!"
Just as Sakaki Makoto and his friends were inspecting the old school building, a round head suddenly popped out from behind the left wall and winked at them:
"Come here quickly! We sneaked in here. If we are found by the school security, they will definitely kick us out!"
"......"
Sakaki patted Kidd on the shoulder and said:
"Sometimes, Conan is more of a thief than you."
"Yes, yes, I'm right!"
Kidd was greatly encouraged and nodded his head like crazy, not forgetting to show off to Miss Miyano and Akai Mary:
"It's not that I have a problem, but Conan is used to being sneaky and can't change his bad habits!"
Although Conan couldn't hear what they were whispering from a long distance away, he always felt offended.
