"As expected of you, the former savior of Japan. Given time, you should be able to reach Mr. Kudo's level."
"What do you mean?"
"Didn't you notice that there are two empty seats in this car?"
Judy smiled and said:
"This is specially left for you by Mr. Kudo."
Kudo Shinichi, who was originally smug, suddenly froze in his expression, and after a while he sighed quietly:
"He is my father... I have no reason to compete with him."
"By the way..."
Judy glanced at the air-conditioning vents in the front row of the car intentionally or unintentionally and asked:
"Do you still have that medicine?"
"Yes, I have."
Kudo Shinichi took out a box from his pocket:
"I have another one, specially prepared for Mr. Sakaki Makoto."
"That's good."
As they were talking, the convoy drove along the road outside the US military base and arrived near the fortress. The place was in a mess and trees had fallen down. It was not difficult to imagine how violent the previous explosion was.
And just when the FBI arrived at the scene... several injured special forces soldiers happened to carry out two bodies covered with white cloth from the fortress.
"stop!"
Seeing the FBI, the soldier immediately put down the makeshift stretcher and picked up the M4 carbine:
"Who are you!"
"FBI."
James Blake stepped forward and showed his ID:
"Don't be nervous, we have no hostility, we just want to ask how the situation is."
Those soldiers had no intention of lowering their guns. Due to the large numbers of the enemy, they were no match for them. They could only bite the bullet and say:
"Stand back! If you come any closer I'll shoot you!"
This threat seemed pale and powerless in front of the FBI agents. The few remaining special forces soldiers were surrounded. They were well-equipped, and the FBI's equipment was not much worse.
"The outside has been blocked for a long time. You have no way out."
James Blake says:
"As long as you lay down your weapons, I can let you retreat from the direction of the US military base. I have already obtained permission."
Several special forces soldiers looked at each other, and finally put down their guns and gave up resistance.
Seeing this scene, Kudo Shinichi raised his eyebrows, lowered his voice, and said to Hattori Heiji:
“There’s something wrong with these people.”
"Um."
Hattori Heiji nodded slightly and agreed:
"Special forces soldiers who have received professional training will not surrender in this situation. They must have other plans."
When the special forces soldiers no longer resisted, James Blackburn wanted to fulfill his promise and send them out, but was rejected.
"There are still many bodies of our companions down there that have not been brought up yet. We cannot leave."
One of the special forces soldiers said.
"According to the intelligence I received, the fortress should have been hit by a GBU-28 bunker-buster bomb."
Okiya Subaru asked:
"Even so... your damage is still so great?"
"The enemy built a secret room with special cement and placed a bomb in it. If we hadn't been on guard there, we would definitely not have been able to escape unscathed..."
"bomb?!"
Hearing this, Kudo Shinichi widened his eyes, ran quickly to the two bodies being carried up, reached out his hand, and lifted the white cloth covering them.
An old man with a hooked nose and a pumpkin head, looking frail, had a bullet pierced his head. Apart from that, his body was covered with wounds and marks of burns.
"He is Karasuma Renya."
Kudo Yusaku stepped forward and put his hand on his son's shoulder:
"Are you sure you want to see another body?"
".....Um."
Kudo Shinichi nodded, his heart pounding, and lifted the white cloth covering another corpse.
His face was pale, his eyes were closed, and in his hand he was tightly holding a Colt M1911. His body was full of holes and he had already stopped breathing.
"Mr. Sakaki Makoto..."
After seeing the other person's appearance clearly, Kudo Shinichi's heart sank. Even though he had expected this result, when the facts were laid out before him, he still found it somewhat unacceptable.
Hattori Heiji, Okiya Subaru, Kudo Yusaku and others were silent. The bloodstains on Sakaki Makoto's body were so glaring and looked shocking.
"How...did he die?"
"Explosion, death on the spot..."
After a pause, the special forces soldier asked:
"Is he important to you?"
"No matter how important it is, at least he made a brave decision."
Kudo Yusaku stood up and said:
"This kind of courage is something that many people don't have. He is a man worthy of respect... It's over. Send him out, Mr. Okiya, and let's go into the fortress."
"good."
Turning their gaze away from the corpse, Subaru Okiya and Yusaku Kudo entered the ruins of the fortress. Before leaving... James Blake said:
"Judy, Carmel, I leave this to you."
"clear."
A group of FBI agents took action. Compared to commemorating Makoto Sakaki, they hoped to find Karasuma Renya's legacy from the fortress.
The rain seemed to be getting heavier. Kudo Shinichi squatted in front of Sakaki Makoto's body and never left until everyone else was busy with their own things and their attention was distracted... He took out a box from his pocket.
There was a syringe filled with dark transparent liquid in the box. Just as Kudo Shinichi rolled up Sakaki Makoto's sleeve and was about to give him an injection... a big hand attacked from behind, grabbed his wrist accurately, and at the same time kicked Hattori Heiji away.
