"Aunt Catherine!"
In front of the library gate, the girl stopped and looked at the blonde lady in front of her. She hesitated and said:
"What's wrong with you?"
Her heart was beating fast and she was very nervous.
The blonde lady has a dull temperament, a carefree attitude that sees through the mundane world, and a kind of person who has gone through many hardships and is unwilling to struggle anymore....
Feeling discouraged.
No matter which one it was, the blonde lady rarely looked panicked.
The girl suspected...
She discovered something.
"Shh!"
The blonde lady quickly covered the girl's mouth and looked towards the library with lingering fear:
"Keep your voice down!"
"I didn't expect that thieves would sneak into the manor. It's not safe here. We have to notify the security immediately!"
The blonde lady took the girl's slightly cold hand and took a step forward.
With her arms suspended in the air, the girl stood there without moving.
"Liz?"
Suddenly turning her head, the blonde lady looked at the girl and sighed deeply:
“Is this your choice?”
Why would the thieves let them leave the library?
Why didn't Liz warn anyone even though she knew there was a thief in the library?
The blonde lady took Liz away just to observe her reaction.
If the girl allowed her to be dragged out of the library, she would call security without hesitation to catch the thief hiding in the library.
But....
The girl did not choose to leave with her, but raised her head stubbornly:
"Aunt Catherine, you are 34 years old and still unmarried. You have been staying in the Hughes family and handling the daily affairs of the family. Why?"
"Because there is no suitable partner."
The blonde lady said half as a matter of course, half evasively:
"You can't force feelings."
"I will marry whoever I like."
"Coincidentally, if I stay in the family, I don't need to worry about life. I just need to do my part for the family, and the family will support me throughout my life and give me enough time to find a suitable partner."
“But there is no freedom.”
The girl said seriously:
"Shouldn't a person's life be spent pursuing the freedom of life in the mountains, rivers, lakes and seas, and seeking the love that lasts forever in interpersonal relationships?"
"If you stay in the family all day, love won't come to you."
"Liz..."
The blonde lady showed a nostalgic look and sighed quietly:
"Once upon a time, I had the same idea as you."
"At that time, I was very rebellious and yearned for the outside world. I wished I could grow wings, escape from the cage that imprisoned me, and run towards a free future."
"That's what I did. During a family meeting, I secretly packed my bags, left a letter, and slipped out of the manor."
At this point, she paused and glanced at the closed library to make sure no one was chasing her out...
Feeling relieved, he continued:
"At that time, I had just left the manor and felt that the flowers outside were red and bright, the leaves were green, and there was a breath of freedom everywhere."
"In order to completely break away from my family, I took a train to an unknown city, thinking that no one would find me there and I could start a new life."
"I didn't expect that my bag was stolen right after I got off the train."
"Steal...Steal?!"
The girl opened her mouth wide and looked at her in disbelief, her curiosity aroused:
"Then what?"
“Then I called the police.”
The blonde lady smiled bitterly and said:
"I naively thought that the police could help me recover my stolen property, but they just took a statement and told me to go back and wait for news. Their attitude was very good."
"I took the few dozen knives I had left and found a small hotel to stay in, hoping the police could solve the case quickly and return my money."
"But I stayed in that musty, damp hotel for three days and the police still didn't contact me. I was running out of money, so I had to go to the police station again to inquire."
"Uh-huh."
The girl listened with fascination, nodding from time to time, with anticipation gleaming in her lively eyes.
"When I got to the police station, they asked me to wait again, but I had no money left."
Whenever she recalled this past event, the blonde lady would sigh with unforgettable emotion:
"I had no money, so I was kicked out of the small hotel. I was walking alone on the cold streets of the city, hungry and sleepy."
"Just when I was at my wit's end, a group of men suddenly surrounded me and 'invited' me to work in their hotel..."
"I didn't want to, so they used force. Fortunately, a man came to save me in time. He was very handsome, dressed like a white-collar worker, and cared about me..."
“Is he a good man?”
At this time the girl asked:
“It feels pretty good.”
"yes..."
With a smile, the blonde lady said:
"He even invited me to stay at his house for a while."
"I was so confused by his coaxing that I almost agreed when a police car stopped by the roadside. A policeman got out of the car, scolded the man and left, and said to me..."
"That man is a well-known local liar. He specializes in deceiving ignorant women. After gaining their trust, he uses sweet words to get them to stand on the street. If they disagree or are stubborn, he uses drugs, beatings and other means. After a while, they all give in."
"ah...."
The girl opened her mouth in surprise, her face was filled with shock:
"Then why didn't the police arrest him?"
