"Is Mr. Holmes in danger?"
Sir Henry was stunned for a moment, then smiled bitterly:
"Sir, I don't know why you are looking for Holmes, but it is obviously a wrong decision for you to come to the manor on purpose."
"Because Holmes isn't here at all. He's in London!"
"No, Holmes is at Dartmoor."
"Sir, the only person who came back with me was Dr. Watson. Holmes..."
Watson raised his hand to interrupt Sir Henry.
He looked at Sakaki Makoto seriously and asked:
"How did you know Holmes's plan?"
Holmes only told Watson the plan, and nothing else...
He never mentioned it to anyone.
But two travelers suddenly appeared in front of him and revealed Holmes's meticulous plan. For no reason, Watson felt a sense of fear.
If Holmes' whereabouts were discovered, then...
He might be in danger.
"Holmes is not surrounded by a united front. On the contrary, many people know his movements."
Sakaki Cheng took the towel handed over by the maid, walked to the stove, pushed aside Deya who was warming himself by the fire, and said quickly:
"For example... Professor Moriarty."
When Watson heard this name, he was shocked and completely believed Sakaki Makoto.
"You just said that Holmes was in danger. Could it be that Professor Moriarty was going to harm him?"
"That's right. Professor Moriarty planned a crime that involved Jack the Ripper. I have already captured Jack the Ripper and dealt with some enemies along the way. However, there are 30 enemies lying in ambush in the cemetery 1 kilometer away from the manor."
Sakaki Makoto expressed his purpose simply and clearly. He trusted Watson very much. This upright military doctor would never betray Holmes. As for Sir Henry next to him, he had nothing to do with this matter at all:
"Holmes is in danger, I am sure of it."
After taking a deep look at Sakaki Makoto, Watson turned to Sir Henry and asked:
"I remember, Sir Henry, that there is a cemetery around the moor, isn't there?"
"Yes, that is our family's special ancestral tomb. Many ancestors have been buried there over the past 500 years."
"I see, 30 enemies..."
Watson murmured in a low voice, his eyes flickered:
"I remember there were a lot of shotguns at Baskerville Hall."
"Do you need a shotgun?"
Sir Henry was surprised:
"But it's raining heavily outside. It would be better to send someone to the town to call the police."
"It would take at least three hours to go back and forth. Besides, as you just said, it's raining outside. By the time the police get to the manor, it will be daybreak."
Watson shook his head and said:
"I need a shotgun and a trip to the swamp with this gentleman."
"Okay, I understand."
Sir Henry was a reasonable man. Without hesitation, he asked the maid to bring two well-maintained shotguns from upstairs, along with dozens of rounds of ammunition:
"Doctor Watson, I must remind you that the accuracy of these shotguns is not very high. It is night time now and it is easy for them to get flooded and misfire."
"It doesn't matter. I can cover it with a tarp."
Watson took the two shotguns, wrapped them with a layer of waterproof oilcloth, and then put them on his shoulders. He picked up a kerosene lamp and said to Sakaki Makoto:
"Sir, we can go now."
Sakaki Makoto was extremely satisfied with Watson's speed.
It should be said that, worthy of being a former soldier, he is decisive and never drags his feet.
"Hey, can I not go?"
Deya, who was enjoying the fire, said:
"My clothes are all wet, which is really uncomfortable. Besides, I'm not a good shooter, so I can't help you much. It's better for me to stay here and wait for you to come back."
In silence, Sakaki Makoto raised his revolver.
"Damn it, I really like the feeling of wet clothes!"
Deya jumped up from his chair and said with a pursed mouth:
"Not only that, I also like walking at night, and it's even better if it rains."
Sakaki Makoto put down the gun with satisfaction.
A sensible person will never make the wrong choice.
In the midst of the violent storm, Makoto Sakaki called for reinforcements, and the three of them rushed out of the villa.
Sir Henry stood at the door, looking out anxiously, until the three figures completely disappeared into the night, then he withdrew his gaze.
..................
"What's your name, sir?"
On the way down the mountain, Watson suddenly remembered that he didn't know the names of Sakaki Makoto and the other person.
"Sakaki Makoto, this is Deya Moran, a baron."
"Moran..."
After chewing on the name for a while, Watson felt like he had heard it somewhere.
"Yes, he is the relative of Colonel Moran. He is also a subordinate of Professor Moriarty, but he has surrendered now."
Hearing this, Deya snorted proudly:
"To tell you the truth, Watson, I didn't intend to help you and Holmes. Who made my boss want to save you?"
"You just said that Jack the Ripper was caught?"
Watson ignored Deya. In his opinion, he was just a clown:
"Where is he?"
"I left him in the carriage on the path we had to take when we went down the mountain, and my companions were guarding him."
"Catch Jack the Ripper, by God, you will be rewarded by the King himself!"
Reward?
Deya curled his lips with some disdain.
It's true that he deserves a reward, but you don't know...
He also killed 20 nobles, much more brutally than Jack the Ripper.
