Chapter 187 Crisis and Opportunity in the Basement

Conan and Ran Mouri are trapped in the basement, and the situation has become extremely serious. Conan quickly calms down and carefully examines the combination lock again, trying to find clues to crack the new code. He crouches down and, with the help of the dim light of his flashlight, discovers some very fine wear marks on the edge of the combination lock, as if it had been forcibly pried open with some kind of tool.

"Ran, this combination lock has been tampered with. It seems they deliberately left us some clues." Conan said as he searched the basement for anything that might be related to the combination.

Ran Mouri also searched the basement, leaving no corner unchecked. Suddenly, behind a pile of old, broken boxes, she discovered a stone slab with strange symbols and numbers carved on it.

"Conan, look at this, could it be related to a password?" Ran Mouri exclaimed.

Conan rushed over and carefully examined the contents of the stone tablet. The symbols and numbers seemed chaotic, but thanks to his keen observation and extensive puzzle-solving experience, Conan discovered a specific logical pattern hidden within them. After some tense calculations, Conan finally derived a possible set of coded numbers.

He quickly returned to the combination lock and entered the numbers. With a slight mechanical click, the lock beeped, and the door slowly opened.

"We did it!" Ran Mouri exclaimed excitedly.

Conan and Ran cautiously stepped out of the basement, wary of any potential enemies lying in ambush. However, no men in black appeared outside, and the entire factory was eerily quiet.

“They seem to have all left, probably to search for the ‘Mind Stone’ according to the map,” Conan said. “We need to catch up quickly.”

Following the markings on the map, they headed towards the possible location of the "Mind Stone." The map indicated that the "Mind Stone" was located in an abandoned shrine on the outskirts of the city.

By the time they arrived at the shrine, night had fallen. The shrine appeared particularly eerie under the moonlight, surrounded by overgrown weeds, its gate half-closed and creaking.

Conan and Ran Mouri gently pushed open the gate and entered the shrine. A mysterious atmosphere permeated the shrine's courtyard as they cautiously made their way towards the main hall. Suddenly, a gust of cold wind blew by, rustling the surrounding branches as if countless eyes were watching them from the darkness.

"Conan, I feel like something's not right?" Ran Mouri said in a low voice, her body slightly tense.

"Don't be afraid, Ran, I'm here," Conan comforted her, but he himself became more vigilant, his hand unconsciously reaching for the detective gadgets in his pocket.

They entered the main hall, where a dilapidated statue stood. On the altar in front of the statue was a dent, the shape of which seemed to match the "Stone of the Soul".

"It seems this is where the 'Mind Stone' was placed, but the stone has already been taken away," Conan said.

Just then, they heard footsteps coming from behind the shrine. Conan and Ran quickly hid to the side and saw a group of men in black escorting a hooded figure into the main hall.

“Boss, we’ve got the ‘Mind Stone,’ let’s get out of here right now,” a man in black said.

“Don’t rush, let’s test the power of this ‘Mind Stone’ first,” the hooded man said, his voice low and hoarse.

The hooded man took out a stone emitting an eerie light from his robes; it was the "Stone of the Mind." He placed the "Stone of the Mind" in the recess of the altar, and instantly, the "Stone of the Mind" emitted a bright light, enveloping the entire main hall in its glow.

Conan and Ran, who were watching closely, realized they couldn't let the Hooded Man succeed. Conan quickly devised a plan. He discovered that when the "Mind Stone" glowed, it generated a special magnetic field around it, which could interfere with electronic devices.

"Ran, I have an idea. Lin Yu gave me a small device that can interfere with electronic devices using a magnetic field. Maybe it can disrupt the energy output of the 'Mind Stone'," Conan said in a low voice.

Ran Mouri nodded: "So what do we do?"

“I’ll distract them, and you can take the opportunity to get close to the ‘Mind Stone’ and destroy it with this device,” Conan said, handing the device to Ran Mouri.

Conan took a deep breath and stepped out of his hiding place: "Your plot will not succeed!"

The men in black immediately surrounded Conan upon seeing him. "It's you again, you brat, ruining our plans!" one of the men in black said menacingly.

While dealing with the man in black, Conan used words to provoke the hooded man and distract him. "You think you can control everything just by getting the 'Mind Stone'? You're too naive!"

The hooded man was indeed enraged, and he focused all his attention on Conan: "You brat, today I'll teach you what happens when you meddle in other people's business!"

In the instant the hooded man was distracted, Ran Mouri, like a black shadow, swiftly approached the "Mind Stone." However, one of the men in black noticed Ran's actions and turned to block her.

Ran Mouri dodged the attack from the man in black with a swift movement, then delivered a beautiful spinning kick, knocking him to the ground. She continued rushing towards the "Mind Stone," and as she approached it, she quickly took out a device and activated the switch.

The device emitted a strong electromagnetic pulse, which interfered with the magnetic field generated by the Mind Stone. The Mind Stone's light began to flicker erratically, and its energy output was severely affected.

"Oh no, someone's sabotaging the 'Mind Stone'!" The hooded man noticed Ran Mouri's actions and angrily charged towards her.
