Conan gripped the faintly glowing book tightly, his gaze quickly sweeping over the ghostly figures. These ghosts were of various shapes and sizes; some had distorted faces, while others were transparent yet exuded a chilling aura. They shrieked and pounced, their cries echoing through the hall as if trying to pierce everyone's eardrums.
"Watch out, everyone! These ghosts look hostile!" Conan shouted, quickly considering a countermeasure. He noticed that although these ghosts appeared illusory, they brought a strong cold wind when they attacked, suggesting they possessed some ability to materialize and attack.
Ran Mouri charged towards the horde of ghosts first, her karate prowess proving invaluable. Each punch and kick created a whooshing sound, and upon colliding with the ghosts, she even managed to knock some off their feet. However, the ghosts were numerous; as one wave was repelled, another quickly took its place.
Nightshade, wielding a short sword, moved with ease through the horde of ghosts. He used his agility to evade their attacks while simultaneously seeking an opportunity to deliver a fatal blow. Each time the short sword sliced through a ghost's body, a brief flash of light appeared, seemingly inflicting some damage.
Lin Yu then activated his high-tech equipment, firing out beams of special energy. These energy beams, like tangible rays of light, caused the ghosts to howl in pain upon impact, and their bodies became even more ethereal, as if the energy beams were gradually disintegrating their existence.
Ai Haibara calmly observed the ghosts' patterns of movement. She discovered that the ghosts seemed to be guided by some force, moving along specific trajectories at regular intervals. "Conan, these ghosts move in a predictable pattern. We can use the gaps in their movements to attack them more effectively!" Ai Haibara shouted through the communication device.
After hearing Ai Haibara's tip, Conan quickly relayed the information to the others. The group began adjusting their attack rhythm based on the ghost's movement patterns. Whenever the ghost moved along its predetermined path, they concentrated their attacks. With everyone working together, the ghost's attacks were gradually suppressed, and its numbers began to decrease.
Finally, the last ghost vanished into thin air under the combined attack of the group, and the hall temporarily returned to calm. Conan then turned his attention to the book in his hands. He gently turned the pages and found that the book contained the history of the castle and detailed information about the treasure and the curse.
It turns out that the castle's owner was once a powerful wizard obsessed with achieving immortality and limitless power. To achieve this, he searched far and wide for mysterious magical artifacts, hiding them in various corners of the castle. However, his actions angered other wizards, who united to cast a curse on the castle. The curse not only plunged the castle into darkness but also placed everyone who attempted to approach the treasure in grave danger.
"So, we need to find those hidden magical items to break the curse and find the treasure?" Ran Mouri said, looking at the book in Conan's hand.
Conan nodded: "That's right, and the book mentions that these magical items are hidden in different areas of the castle, each with its own unique protective mechanism. We need to overcome each obstacle one by one to collect all the items."
According to the book, the first magical item—the "Amulet of Light"—was hidden in the castle's basement. The group descended the stairs along one side of the hall. The basement was filled with a putrid stench, and various old boxes and miscellaneous items were scattered around.
Suddenly, the ground began to shake violently, and a group of skeleton warriors surged out from all directions. These skeleton warriors, armed with weapons, moved nimbly and charged towards Conan and the others.
"It seems this is the first hurdle to protecting the Amulet of Light," Conan said, while quickly analyzing the skeleton warrior's weaknesses. He discovered that although the skeleton warrior's body was tough, its joints were relatively vulnerable.
"Attack their joints!" Conan shouted. Ran and Yoru immediately understood and rushed towards the skeleton warriors. Ran used karate to attack the skeleton warriors' knee joints, while Yoru used his short sword to slash at the skeleton warriors' arm joints. Each attack slowed the skeleton warriors' movements, and some even collapsed due to joint damage.
Lin Yu used high-tech equipment to fire lasers, slicing through the skeleton warriors' bodies. Wherever the lasers struck, the skeleton warriors' bones shattered. Ai Haibara provided tactical support from the sidelines while keeping an eye out for any other dangers.
During the fierce battle, Conan noticed some hidden mechanisms on the basement walls. He guessed these mechanisms might be related to defeating the skeleton warrior or finding the Amulet of Light. "Everyone hold off the skeleton warrior, I'll go check out the mechanisms on the walls!" Conan shouted.
Conan quickly ran to the wall and carefully studied the mechanisms. After some trial and error, he discovered that he needed to press some protruding stones on the wall in a specific order. Conan took a deep breath and began trying different combinations. Finally, after several attempts, he found the correct sequence. As the stones were pressed, a hidden compartment appeared in the basement floor.
Conan opened the hidden compartment, inside which lay a talisman emitting a soft glow—the "Amulet of Light." The instant Conan picked up the talisman, the skeleton warriors suddenly ceased their attack, collapsing to the ground and turning into piles of bones.
"We've successfully obtained our first magical item!" Conan exclaimed excitedly.
Carrying the amulets of light, the group continued their search for the next magical item—the "Ring of Purification"—following the book's instructions. According to the records, the Ring of Purification was hidden in the castle's bell tower. Upon arriving at the bell tower, they found the doors tightly shut, covered in mysterious runes.
Conan carefully studied the runes again, trying to find a way to open the gate. After some effort, he discovered that the runes formed a puzzle, and only by solving the puzzle could the gate be opened. The puzzle was about the connections between some events and figures in the castle's history, and fortunately, Conan had just learned about the relevant information from the book.
