Conan quickly informed Ran Mouri, Ai Haibara, Yoru, and Lin Yu about the treasure hunt. Upon hearing this, everyone was filled with curiosity and wariness towards this seemingly ordinary yet strangely intriguing treasure hunt.
"This treasure hunt is suspicious. How can they suddenly announce a mysterious treasure and publicly invite everyone to search for it?" Ai Haibara pushed up her glasses, her eyes full of doubt.
"It might be another trap set by someone with ill intentions." Nightshade frowned, his expression serious.
"However, if there really is treasure, it would be terrible if it fell into the hands of bad people," Ran Mouri said with some worry.
Conan's gaze was firm: "No matter what, we have to go and see. Maybe we can uncover the conspiracy behind it all."
Three days later, Conan and his friends arrived at the park early. A large crowd had already gathered around the island in the middle of the lake, all eagerly anticipating the upcoming treasure hunt. The island was surrounded by water, connected to the shore only by a narrow stone bridge.
As soon as the competition began, a host dressed in splendid attire walked onto the stone bridge and announced loudly, "Welcome everyone to this treasure hunt! I'm sure you're all curious about the mysterious treasure. However, this treasure won't be easy to find. The island in the middle of the lake is filled with various puzzles and mechanisms. Only those who solve the puzzles and overcome the obstacles will be qualified to find the treasure. Now, please step onto the island in the middle of the lake, and the treasure hunt officially begins!"
Conan and his friends followed the crowd onto the island in the middle of the lake. The island was lush with green trees and blooming with flowers, but beneath this beautiful appearance, there seemed to be hidden dangers. As soon as they arrived on the island, they saw a sign hanging on a large tree that read: "Solve the riddle of numbers to open the way forward. 3, 6, 10, 15, ( ), please write the answer on the stone table in front of you."
Lin Yu looked at the sign and scratched his head: "What kind of numerical pattern is this?"
Conan thought for a moment and said, "This is a second-order arithmetic sequence. The difference between two adjacent numbers increases by 1. The difference between 3 and 6 is 3, the difference between 6 and 10 is 4, and the difference between 10 and 15 is 5. So the number in the parentheses should be 6 greater than 15, which is 21."
The group approached the stone table, and Conan wrote the number 21 on it. Instantly, a passage appeared beneath the stone table, its entrance emitting a faint light.
"Looks like this is the right answer. Let's go down," Conan said, leading the way into the passage.
The passageway was dimly lit, with strange patterns carved on the walls. As they walked along, they suddenly heard a rustling sound, as if something was moving quickly in the darkness.
"What's that sound?" Ran Mouri clenched her fists warily.
Nightshade gestured for everyone to be quiet and listen carefully to the source of the sound. "It seems to be coming from around the corner ahead, everyone be careful."
As they cautiously turned the corner, a swarm of mechanical spiders appeared from all directions. These spiders were enormous, with sharp legs and eyes that gleamed with an eerie red light.
"It's a trap!" Conan shouted. "Everyone, watch out for their attacks!"
Lin Yu quickly took out high-tech equipment and fired beams of electricity in an attempt to stop the mechanical spiders from getting closer. The electricity struck the spiders, making a "sizzling" sound, but these spiders seemed to be specially designed and had a certain resistance to the electricity, and they still stubbornly charged forward.
Ran Mouri charged towards the swarm of spiders, launching a fierce attack using karate. She kicked one spider away, but several more immediately swarmed around it. Nightshade, on the other hand, used her agility to weave through the spiders, looking for opportunities to attack their joints.
Ai Haibara observed the spider's movement patterns and discovered that its eyes were one of its weaknesses. "Attack their eyes!" Ai Haibara shouted a warning.
Upon hearing this, Conan used his soccer dribble to launch a soccer ball, accurately hitting a spider in the eye. The spider slowed down after being attacked. Seeing this, everyone focused their attacks on the spider's eye. With their combined efforts, they finally defeated the mechanical spider.
Continuing along the passage, they arrived at a vast stone chamber. In the center of the chamber stood a huge chessboard, its pieces carved from stone, each bearing a different symbol. Beside the board stood a plaque that read: "Use chess as a strategy to solve the puzzle. Move the pieces in a specific order to open the passageway."
Conan carefully observed the symbols on the chessboard and pieces, noticing similarities to the patterns on the walls of the passageway. After some thought and reasoning, Conan finally figured out the correct order to move the pieces.
He carefully moved the pieces according to the order he had deduced. When the last piece was placed, the chessboard emitted a light, and a door slowly opened on one side of the stone chamber.
"We did it!" Lin Yu exclaimed excitedly.
The group passed through the door and entered a garden. The garden was filled with all sorts of exotic flowers, their fragrance permeating the air. In the center of the garden stood a small pavilion, and inside sat a person, smiling as they watched them.
“It’s good that you came here,” the man said.
"Who are you? What's the deal with this treasure hunt?" Conan asked warily.
“My name is Edmund, and I’m the one who organized this treasure hunt. As for the purpose, it’s to find a truly wise and courageous person to inherit a special legacy,” Edmund said.
"A special legacy? What kind of legacy?" Ran Mouri asked.
Edmund stood up, walked to a corner of the garden, pushed aside a stone, revealing a hidden opening. "Come with me, and you will see."
Conan and the others hesitated for a moment, but still followed Edmund into the cave. Inside the cave was a downward staircase, with torches lit on both sides to illuminate the path ahead.
