Chapter 53

Chapter 53

Kurosawa Shiran asked in a muffled voice, "Does my sister suspect that old man?"

“In a sense, you are the prime suspect.” Rina looked at the photo carefully and felt that things were a bit difficult. “You were always by my side during the case at the orphanage, except for the day Dante died.”

Kurosawa Shiran: "Someone is trying to frame me."

Lina felt a bit stuffy inside the car, so she adjusted the air conditioning temperature. Just then, she looked up and met the boy's eyes, which were unusually bright and fixed on her face. "...That might be it."

Kurosawa Shiran casually picked up a photo, which happened to be a bullet casing left at the crime scene. He couldn't help but click his tongue. "An American M1911 pistol, effective range of fifty meters, the bullet hit right between the eyebrows. Dante must have seen the murderer. Does your sister only believe in evidence?"

"That's the same model as her pistol," Rina hummed softly, then patted her pockets, realizing she'd already thrown away the cigarette pack, and awkwardly put her hands in her pockets.

She asked, "What did you say to him the last time you saw him?"

“He approached me on July 1st,” Kurosawa Shiran stared into Rina’s eyes, her gaze unwavering. “We didn’t talk about anything; he just came to kill me.”

Rina frowned: "Kill you?"

Kurosawa Shiran: "He wants to avenge the leader and has been looking for me."

Rina: "They've made their move?"

“Yeah, pretty much. I don’t have much patience for those people. He probably wanted to say something more, but I couldn’t control my hands,” Kurosawa Shiran paused. “Of course, there were a lot of them, so I jumped from the sixth floor and ran away.”

Rina: "I haven't seen you since?"

Kurosawa Shiran: "No, I prefer to stay by my sister's side."

Rina rubbed her temples, studied the photos and autopsy report for a while, and quickly took notes, even connecting the names and drawing charts.

Then a question suddenly occurred to me: "How many people know where you are?"

Kurosawa Toki said nonchalantly, "Most people only know the title. After all, I only came into the public eye because of the Budokan case. I think apart from a few Mafia executives, no one can match the face with the title. But there are always exceptions."

Rina exchanged a glance with him, her tone carrying a barely perceptible hint of worry: "Let me think again, is there anyone else?"

Kurosawa Shiran blinked, giving an innocent look: "Then it can only be my sister. Has my sister told anyone else?"

Rina was taken aback, and a name flashed through her mind. She changed the subject, "Dante was able to find you, so at least he knew where you were."

If someone wants to frame Kurosawa Tokiran, that person must know his recent whereabouts.

Kurosawa Shiran narrowed her eyes. "Yuriko, two days ago, I discovered that she had people secretly following me. Frank, he has been spreading my bounty online, as well as Darcy."

Rina asked, "Who is Darcy?"

Kurosawa Shiran: "My butler."

Rina: "..."

Why does this kid have a butler?

A faint light flickered in Kurosawa Shiran's eyes as he took her hand and kissed it. "I've said it before, I can support my sister."

Rina casually hooked his chin, not knowing what to say, her mind completely blank.

However, the investigation of this case cannot be disclosed to the detective agency for the time being.

Do you own a house in Japan?

Kurosawa Shiran: "Yes, there is a sea-view villa 180 kilometers away from here."

That would be perfect. Just as Rina was about to speak, her phone suddenly rang.

With her hand held and unable to pull it free, she had to switch to her other hand to answer the phone, "I'm at Parkway Mall, is there anything you need at home?"

Shimono Gen: "The nurses have been looking for you all afternoon but haven't been able to find you."

Rina's eyelids twitched. "...Come out and relax a bit."

Gen Shimono said, "Don't be willful. Don't go out and run around without your doctor's permission. Your medical report is terrible."

"I'm really fine," Rina paused for a moment, "Is there anything you'd like to eat?"

Kurosawa Shiran seemed to have caught a chill, coughing a few times, but still didn't let go, instead gripping it tighter. "My sister didn't even ask me what I wanted to eat."

Shimono Gen asked in an unhappy tone, "Are you with that guy?"

Rina: "Let's go see an opera together."

Shimono Gen sighed, "No matter what, you should cooperate with the doctor's treatment instead of secretly throwing away the medicine. If the sink hadn't been clogged, you might have gotten away with it."

Those medicines, smaller than a fingernail, clogged the drain...

Perhaps she should go and scratch a few lottery tickets.

Lina suddenly felt a burning gaze, and guiltily rolled her eyes before silently turning them back. "Actually, I was planning to go out and relax... The atmosphere in the ward is too oppressive."

Shimono Gen directly saw through her pretense, saying, "Just say you've had enough."

Rina: "......"

"I'll send you the address in a bit. Take your medicine on time." With that, Shimono Gen hung up the phone.

Kurosawa Shiran lowered her eyes, her long, thick eyelashes casting a shadow beneath them. "Sister, you haven't been following the doctor's orders."

Rina hesitated for a moment, then continued looking at the documents in her hand. "It's like swallowing needles, but it's just some vitamins, so don't worry about it."

Kurosawa Shiran thought to herself, "If I use any forceful methods, my sister will be angry."

But his sister always did things that made him unhappy.

He called Darcy to have the villa cleaned in advance and to prepare some daily necessities.

Rina seemed to be deep in thought.

Kurosawa Shiran gripped her chin with one hand, his gaze sweeping over her face inch by inch, as if it were tangible. "I really like you, sister, so I hope you won't hide anything from me."

People always have to pay the price for their impulsive actions. Rina really wants to take good care of him and hopes that he won't get hurt.

"Some things are hard to let go of, but perhaps things will get better once they're over."

Kurosawa Shiran took a deep breath. "It will probably take an hour and a half. Sister, take a nap first."

Rina tidied up the documents and put them in the drawer. "Then I'll have to trouble you, little brother."

As the car drove along the winding coastal highway, Kurosawa Shiran asked with concern, "Why, younger brother?"

Rina countered, "Then what do you want me to call you?"

Kurosawa Shiran turned to look at her, her eyes filled with doubt: "Is your sister dissatisfied with last night?"

Rina: "......"

She gave Kurosawa Shiran a look, letting him figure it out for himself.

But he's obviously more shameless.

Kurosawa Shiran said in a serious tone, "It was my sister who told me not to stop, and I was very obedient."

Rina gave him a fake smile: "If you keep distorting the facts, there won't be a next time."

Kurosawa Shiran decisively shut his mouth and focused on driving.

Lina was speechless.

He was just pretending to be stupid.

Some dogs are so mischievous that you can tell what they're up to just by looking at them.

An hour and a half later, the two arrived at the villa. Rina didn't sleep; instead, she took some photos of the scenery along the way, which made her feel much more relaxed.

During her high school and college years, she rarely had the opportunity to travel.

A sea-view room...maybe I can really relax for a few days.

Rina got out of the car and looked around.

Although she didn't know what kind of business Kurosawa Shiran ran, she had seen many villas. However, when she arrived at her destination, she remained calm on the surface, but was still more or less shocked in her heart.

Especially upon entering, there is a living room with a five-meter-high ceiling, and a floor-to-ceiling glass wall that displays the sea view outside without reservation.

"What exactly do you do?" If he wasn't an assassin, Rina turned to look at him. "Are you in contact with your family?"

Kurosawa Shiran placed the key on the cabinet in the entryway and took off her coat. "Those aren't family members, sister."

Rina: "I've never asked you about those people."

Kurosawa Shiran walked up to Rina. "My mother is Italian. She has deep ties to the Mafia, the Sicilian Mafia, which is based in Sicily and is the most well-known branch. They have long controlled many illegal businesses in the area. My father is a British nobleman, a duke. However, he has always denied my existence. Later, probably after his youngest son had an accident, he sent someone to communicate with my sister, and then my sister sent me away."

Rina sensed the reproach in his voice: "He presented proof of paternity."

“But I’m still very sad,” Kurosawa Shiran pulled her into his arms and rubbed her earlobe. “And, after we broke up, my sister never contacted me again.”

Rina pinched his cheek. "Don't push your luck."

"Sister, please be more lenient with me a few more times," Kurosawa Shiran subtly slipped her hand inside Rina's clothes, leaned down, and nibbled on her earlobe, "Sister?"

He didn't sleep a wink last night, watched a play that lasted over two hours, and drove for an hour and a half. How can he have so much energy? Rina: "It's dinner time now."

Kurosawa Shiran: "And after dinner—"

“I have other things to do after dinner,” Rina said. “You can go back to your room and rest.”

Kurosawa Shiran let out a pitiful whimper, leaving a slight bite mark on Rina's fair collarbone, but still refused to let go.

"I can wait until I've sorted things out." Rina tugged at his collar and kissed his forehead. "Go get something to eat first."

She had already eaten about 70% full from cake and snacks on the way.

By this time, it had completely darkened and a light drizzle had begun to fall.

Once they find another body, they'll probably have to call it a day.

The police officer held an umbrella, while Sagara held a flashlight in his mouth and a map and pencil in his other hand, marking the places they had searched.

One of them said, "If this continues, we won't gain anything."

“There was a downpour last night, so even if this is the primary crime scene, it will be difficult for us to find any clues,” Sagara said, unfolding the map and following the direction of the reeds and the road. Twenty kilometers away, he discovered the lake.

As the rain intensified, the police officer raised a megaphone and shouted into the distance, "Sagara, headquarters has ordered us to call it a day."

Sagara stood among the reeds, took off his glasses, wiped the lenses with his shirt, and gazed towards the lake for a while. When he got back to the car, he noticed an unfamiliar face in the back seat. "Who is this senior?"

The officer explained, "I was going fishing at Lover's Lake when my car broke down, so I gave him a ride."

Sagara asked, "Lake of Lovers?"

The old man was covered with wrinkles of varying depths, his hair still damp from the rain, and his voice had the hoarseness characteristic of an old smoker, but he enunciated each word clearly: "Before anyone died, it was just an ordinary lake. This place is low-lying, and during the rainy season, the river water gathers together to form a large lake. The people living here call it Lover's Lake because a couple once jumped into the river and committed suicide there."

Someone asked, "Did someone really jump into the river?"

"Yes, it happened more than ten years ago. Later, a reporter even reported on it, which drew a lot of people to mourn. But that reporter didn't know anything and embellished the story." The old man sighed as he said this. "Actually, the man was from the next village. He had a gambling father, and his family was destitute, often going hungry. The woman, on the other hand, came from a wealthy family that ran a business. Her family disapproved of their relationship, and the two girls resisted to no avail, so they got involved. I heard they dated for seven or eight years. It's such a pity."

Sagara fell silent, gazing at the scenery rushing past the window, and suddenly said, "Let's go to Lover's Lake."

It's almost the end of the month, and Sato still has a stack of case closure summaries to write. He's been sitting all afternoon, and his back aches, his legs are cramping, and it's even more grueling than going to the scene.

He had lost count of how many times he had stared at the clock on the wall; thankfully, this agonizing day was almost over.

Unfortunately, just five minutes before the end of the workday, the office landline suddenly rang.

"Officer Sato, the bodies in the North District have been found, and there's more than one!"

Sato immediately stood up, pulling a raincoat from a drawer as he asked, "How many have been found so far?"

The officer replied, "Five skulls."

-

While Kurosawa Shiran was eating, Rina had already filled the whiteboard with characters.

He stared at it for a while, and soon caught the name of Natsume Kanon among the dense handwriting. He was particularly sensitive to the name Natsume.

"Is my sister involved in the case at the Haicheng Manor?"

Rina's eyelashes fluttered, and she leaned back on the leather sofa to adjust her posture. "The man in the photo hasn't been found yet. Since Yuriko was able to get the photo, it means she must have a very close relationship with the man in the photo."

Kurosawa Shiran asked, "Why are you so close to Yuriko, sister?"

Rina hesitated for a moment and said, "The clue that Takizawa found is that Yuriko is someone who is closest to Jones."

Kurosawa Shiran: "My sister wants to follow the clues."

"I guess so." She was the direct murderer who killed Kanon, so how could Rina let her go? "She was my university lecturer, but Jones approached me before her."

Kurosawa Shiran's eyes narrowed, a barely perceptible hint of possessiveness flashing in them. "Has your sister met Jones?"

Rina whispered, "We communicate via email."

Kurosawa Shiran walked over, stared at her for a while, and said sourly, "The advertisement I received at the theater was also for Jones."

Lina took his hand, gesturing for him to sit down: "He will send me the drugs they are researching regularly."

Kurosawa Shiran sat down, and in an instant, his warm skin pressed against Rina's thigh. His Adam's apple bobbed, and he stared at her, unable to look away.

Her pupils were almost pure black, like obsidian soaked in melting snow and ice water, so cold they could almost pierce the heart.

But those eyes always become tender and affectionate when they look at him.

“That day, my sister took me out of the police station and carried me for a long time. When I woke up, it was already the second day in bed.”

He lay in bed for a long time at that time. In that bloody and blurry dream, only his sister's face was clear, as was the unique scent of cedar on her body.

He couldn't control his desire to possess his sister completely until there was a knock on the door. Only then did he come to his senses, hastily change out of his pajama bottoms, and curl up in the blanket.

Lina noticed his thoughts and tapped him on the head, "What breed of puppy are you? Why are you always in heat?"

Kurosawa Shiran seized the opportunity, leaned in and kissed her lips, then held her lips in his mouth and slowly licked and nibbled, as if to please her. "Sister, have you never raised a dog before? Dogs usually go into heat for seven to ten days."

Rina: "You really think you're a dog?"

The rustling sound of fabric against fabric filled the air. Kurosawa Shiran held Rina's waist and untied the black ribbon from her nightgown, letting her straddle him. His voice was slightly hoarse with desire, "...Puppies can go into heat."

Rina stroked his face and couldn't help but laugh, "I'm going to the bedroom."
