When Wei Mingyue saw her like this, she cursed inwardly, "Don't drag me into this at this time!" She could only feign calmness and slowly shook her head at her.
Xie Wanyun had already seen the interaction between the two. He smiled coldly, took the testimony handed to him by the jade pendant, and waved it to the crowd, "Would you please come and examine it, so that I won't be accused of forgery."
Immediately, a guest stepped forward to take the testimony. After carefully examining it, he raised his head and said to the crowd, "I used to be a legal advisor in the government. This testimony is true and not false."
Wei was panicking, but she forced herself to remain calm. "That was Liu Yun'er's doing. I had no knowledge of it. I was just desperate today, so I said I had called a doctor. But the truth is, our family is so broke we can barely afford to eat. How could we possibly afford a doctor? Even if I lied, it wouldn't be a serious offense."
As soon as these words were spoken, they were immediately met with a wave of contempt.
Xie Wanyun had no intention of letting her go just like that. Since the Wei family came to her door, she would completely end all ties with the Qin family.
"Madam has gotten away with it, but I visited Liu Yun'er in prison a few days ago, and according to her confession, she did it with Madam's permission. Otherwise, how could she, a concubine, have the guts to do that?"
The reason why the disaster was brought to the Wei family was because Wei Mingyue was insignificant.
Wei was completely bewildered by these words. How could she possibly have started this? This was truly not her doing! How dare Liu Yuner, that vicious woman, frame her?
He was so anxious that he stood up from the ground, waving his hands and almost swearing on the spot.
"This matter really has nothing to do with me! I didn't do it!"
"Whether you have done it or not, you can tell it clearly in the lobby of Shangjing Mansion." Xie Wanyun said casually with his arms folded.
Wei was dizzy and at a loss for what to do. She had clearly come to collect a debt, so how could she be labeled the poisoner? She looked back and saw the real poisoner still standing in the crowd!
He immediately pointed at Wei Mingyue and shouted, "Mingyue, tell me what's going on?!"
Wei Mingyue just wanted to shut her mouth.
Why bother dragging me into this? Luckily, she and Liu Yun'er had only agreed verbally, leaving no real evidence. Even if Liu Yun'er accused her of something, she would deny it.
She had no choice but to come over and hold her, crying and saying, "Aunt, how could you do such a foolish thing? Don't worry, if anything happens to you, I will take good care of your cousin for you, wuwu..."
Wei was stunned. Things had changed, and now it was her turn to take the blame!
"Mingyue, what are you talking about? This was originally your..."
"Aunt!" Wei Mingyue burst into tears in time. He suppressed her voice, hugged her neck, and whispered in her ear: "Everyone is in jail, who will take care of my cousin?"
Just one sentence was enough to grasp Wei's vital point.
She finally understood completely that Xie Wanyun wanted to deal with her. With Liu Yuner's false accusation, she could not escape anyway. Wei Mingyue could still take care of Qin Su'an because she took the blame, otherwise the whole family would be finished.
At this point, she calmed down and swallowed her anger. When she went to court, the prefect couldn't just rely on Liu Yun'er's one-sided statement to convict her.
So she still had a chance to turn things around. There was really no benefit in dragging Wei Mingyue into this situation. It would be better to do her a big favor.
Xie Wanyun coldly watched the aunt and niece act out their act. These people were obsessed with profit and scheming, and family ties and moral principles were worthless to them.
The onlookers were already confused by the plot twists and turns, and were saying all sorts of things.
"Get out of the way, get out of the way!" Suddenly a group of officials came to the gate, pushed everyone aside and squeezed into the house.
When everyone saw the officers coming, they all retreated.
The leading officer walked up to Xie Wanyun and saluted. "Madam Xie, the Shangjing Prefecture has received your report. May I ask where the criminal is?"
Xie Wanyun pointed at the trembling Wei, his tone full of sarcasm.
"This is the criminal."
Insufficient evidence doesn't matter, as long as Wei goes in. Insufficient evidence is just enough to buy time, so that Wei and Liu Yun'er can stay together.
