Xie Wanyun couldn't help but be infected by the child's enthusiasm. Smiling, she asked, "Why does Jinbai like going to Mu Garden so much? Is it because he wants to play with Xiao Si and Xiao Douzi?"
Jin Bai tilted her head and said with a smile, "No, I just want to thank my aunt and want to be with her all the time."
Xie Wanyun's heart warmed up, and his eyes became moist. This child was like a ball of fire, almost melting the ice in Xie Wanyun's heart.
She suddenly felt an urgent desire to learn more about this child. She held Jinbai's hand tightly and said, "Jinbai, can you take Aunt Xie to your place?"
Jin Bai looked at her in surprise and laughed. "Of course! Thank you, Auntie, for coming with me!"
Holding her hand, he skipped towards the backyard. As he ran, he said, "Xie aunt, why did you suddenly want to see my house?"
"Because Aunt Xie likes you!" Xie Wanyun felt uncomfortable when she recalled Yan Suizhi's tone yesterday, which was almost like entrusting the orphan to someone else.
If Yan Suizhi really got into trouble, she would have to take on the responsibility of taking care of Jin Bai. Of course she was willing to take care of Jin Bai. In fact, she had imagined more than once that her child should be like Jin Bai, smart, enthusiastic, cheerful, and full of a sense of justice.
But Yan Suizhi, you can’t be in trouble. She thought silently, otherwise, all my efforts to save you would be in vain.
As they spoke, they had already arrived at Jin Bai's bedroom. Xie Wanyun carefully examined the furnishings inside. Yan Suizhi held a high position of power and lived a luxurious life, but Jin Bai's bedroom was very simply furnished. Apart from the necessary furniture and utensils, there was almost no extra decoration. Only a few calligraphy and paintings and a precious sword hung on the wall.
Jin Bai saw her expression and guessed what she was thinking. She smiled and said, "Thank you, Auntie. My uncle said that I'm still young and should live a simple life and not indulge in pleasure, so he made my room look like a snow cave."
Xie Wanyun smiled. "Your uncle is right."
Jin Bai turned back and ordered the servants to make tea. He then took Xie Wanyun to look at the books he was reading, the calligraphy he was practicing, and the paintings he was drawing. As they looked and talked, Xie Wanyun realized that this boy was not only talented in both literature and martial arts, but also in painting. A painting of orchids in black ink, mounted on the wall, was painted with vigorous brushstrokes and thick, splashed ink, hinting at the style of a master.
She couldn't help but ask, "Jin Bai, did you really draw this orchid painting?"
Jin Bai said with a smile: "Aunt Xie, you don't believe me? Then I will draw it for you now." As he said this, he ordered his servant to bring out the four treasures of the study.
The servant served the tea, and Jinbai thanked Wanyun first. He then gently scraped the foam from the teacup with the lid, then tilted his head and blew on it.
Xie Wanyun looked at his movements and felt that they looked familiar. She thought about it seriously and suddenly froze. She stared blankly at the tea bowl in her hand. She was doing the same movements!
No wonder it felt so familiar; this inconspicuous little gesture was exactly her own little habit. Why was Jin Bai doing the same thing? Was it just a coincidence?
Jin Bai looked up at her, his smile spreading across his face like a spring breeze. His bright eyes seemed to hold the sea of stars.
"Aunt Xie, why don't you drink it? Don't you like the taste of this tea? I'll ask someone to change it for you."
"No. I like it very much." Xie Wanyun took a deep breath, lowered her head and took a sip, her mouth filled with the fragrant tea. Not only did Yan Suizhi have so many secrets, but even little Jin Bai had so many things she couldn't understand.
"Master, all the painting materials are ready." The servant reported respectfully.
"Come, Aunt Xie, watch me draw." Jin Bai put down the teacup and pulled Xie Wanyun to the desk.
"Aunt Xie, what do you want me to paint?" Jin Bai said with a smile, holding up the paintbrush.
Though young, he possessed a refined and elegant appearance, with black hair, fair skin, and radiant red lips. Standing before his desk, his small figure stood tall and straight, like a stalk of green bamboo.
Xie Wanyun was a little stunned. This expression, this posture, even the tone of voice, were exactly the same as Yan Suizhi's.
