Returning to China

Returning to China

Chen Rancheng carried the exhausted person out of the bathroom, and Shen Tinghe rolled into the bed as soon as she touched it.

Chen Rancheng, shirtless, leaned against the headboard and lit a cigarette. The smoke made his eyes appear even more bloodshot.

Give me a bite.

Chen Rancheng glanced to his side, put the cigarette to his red lips, and Shen Tinghe took a puff along his moist lip line, the scattered clouds swirling before her eyes.

Shen Tinghe smokes. When she first came abroad, she was very confused and resistant to everything. It was during that time that she learned to smoke. She wasn't addicted and often stared blankly at the white smoke rising from the cigarette tail.

The mountains suddenly appear, the collarbone is like a fish pond, glistening and fragrant, and the blanket wrapped around her slips off.

Smoke silently enveloped the two people on the bed.

Shen Tinghe lay on his chest, feeling the rise and fall of his breath. The room was quiet, and his breathing was very noticeable.

A section of the curtain was partially drawn, allowing moonlight to stream in through the thin gauze, creating a dim and tranquil atmosphere.

The next day, Shen Tinghe woke up early.

With something on my mind, I couldn't sleep well and woke up as soon as it was light.

She tiptoed into her slippers, went into the bathroom to wash up, and put several bottles of her face wash and lotion on the sink into her bag. She came out and bumped into Chen Rancheng standing in the kitchen.

A look of panic, as if he'd been caught red-handed, crossed his face.

"…woke up?"

Chen Rancheng nodded, casually glancing at the makeup bag in her hand. He didn't think much of it; Shen Tinghe usually used this bag when she did her makeup.

He turned his gaze back to the frying pan, placed his hand on it to test the oil temperature, and cracked an egg into it.

His hair was soft and limp when he first woke up, making him very easy to fool.

Shen Tinghe didn't have many belongings in the room; most of them were bought by Chen Rancheng later, and Shen Tinghe consciously didn't take them.

The bread machine popped out with a "ding," and Chen Rancheng took out a loaf of toast, spread jam on it, and put it on a porcelain plate.

As she sat down at the table to eat, she saw Shen Tinghe and called out, "Dinner's ready."

The two sat facing each other eating, a tranquility flowing through the gaps in their bodies, and for a moment it felt like they had returned to the scene from that morning at the hotel.

Memories can be altered by people. Now, when I think back to that morning, I feel more nostalgia and fondness than panic and helplessness.

Suddenly a sound rang out, like biting into a crisp apple, cracking a fissure in the stillness.

"I'm going back to China."

Thoughtful words are spoken naturally in a calm and understated manner.

Noticing the intense gaze, her heart trembled slightly, but she forced herself to pretend to be nonchalant and took a bite of the bread.

"when?"

"…tomorrow."

For a moment, Chen Ran was at a loss for words. He was leaving tomorrow, and he was only telling him today. He, a dignified diplomat, was speechless.

Why are you only saying this now?

Chen Ran's tone was somewhat cold, and his face was not as gentle and smiling as usual.

"I forgot."

"I forgot." What a great excuse, Chen Ran laughed in exasperation.

"Then why didn't you forget your flight tomorrow?"

His words carried a sense of superiority, and Shen Tinghe looked at him without saying a word.

He put down the bread and said, "I don't think it's necessary to tell you in advance."

She may be infatuated, but it's just a fleeting affair. Everyone should be aware of and fully understand the class difference between themselves and him.

Chen Rancheng scoffed, "No need? Then you might as well leave and tell me later."

Shen Tinghe looked at him coldly, her eyes filled with indifference. She believed that given Chen Rancheng's personality, they wouldn't quarrel and would part amicably.

But she seemed to have forgotten that Chen Rancheng was a diplomat. If he had always acted according to her personality, how could he have attained this position? His gentle and refined demeanor was merely a facade; a smiling tiger was his true nature.

Being gentle and decisive, bold and skillful, are not contradictory.

"I have that plan." Shen Tinghe was also a tough nut to crack.

But it's clear that this argument won't escalate, and she's too lazy to say a word right now.

Seeing that Shen Tinghe took a bite of bread and then put it down without eating, she got up and continued tidying up.

Chen Rancheng realized that he might have been too harsh.

The young woman went abroad to study, and naturally she will return home after completing her studies. Your relationship was just a fleeting affair. She has never mentioned to you where she is from or how many people are in her family. Why would she stay here for you?

"Eat the bread first."

What remains of him is a silent, busy silhouette.
