At that moment, Shen Tinghe finally felt the reality of seeing Chen Rancheng again.
Since that night, the two have only met when there are many people around, such as in a banquet hall with hundreds of people, a noisy restaurant, or a famous tourist attraction with crowds.
But even on this bustling street, Shen Tinghe ignored everything around her.
The afternoon sun was harsh and scorching, casting dappled shadows on half of her face.
Chen Ran raised his hand to block the beam of light, which also obscured the blurry halo dancing in her eyes. His vision was cleared, and his appearance was fully depicted.
Shen Tinghe was stunned for a moment.
She smoothed her hair, which was blowing in the wind. "Thank you."
As the two walked forward, the groom suddenly lifted the bride up from behind and hoisted her onto his shoulders, letting out a piercing scream that Shen Tinghe did not hear.
As buds sprouted and flowers bloomed, as if driven by instinct, she tiptoed and placed the sunglasses hanging from her collar on his ears, covering half of his face.
His emotions were concealed, but his lips curved slightly. Chen Ran raised his hand to adjust them, but didn't remove them.
"You've been in France for a while now?" Chen Rancheng's deep, magnetic voice came through.
Shen Tinghe nodded, "It's been over a year, and it's time to go back to China soon."
Chen Rancheng slowly and deliberately dropped the first words, leading the conversation almost the entire time.
“Aren’t you going to ask me anything?” he asked after all this time. “Like how long I’ve been in France, or like how I…” he prompted.
Shen Tinghe realized what was happening, but she didn't seem to have any questions, so she could probably guess what it was.
“I think you’ve been in France longer than I have.”
Chen Rancheng smiled and asked her why.
"It's like I feel like you're older than me." A woman's amazing sixth sense.
Chen Rancheng raised an eyebrow. "What else did you sense?"
Shen Tinghe's eyes were filled with tears, and she looked at Chen Rancheng with a thoughtful expression. Her lively appearance was vividly reflected in her glasses.
"I feel like you want to kiss me."
She stared at his lips as she spoke, then looked up to meet his gaze.
Unfortunately, the sunglasses obscured the expression in Chen Rancheng's eyes, and a soft sensation welled up in my mind.
On the crowded street, Shen Tinghe seemed to have anticipated that he wouldn't do anything.
Chen Rancheng looked at her helplessly, "Yeah, I want to kiss you."
The deep voice, tinged with laughter, made Shen Tinghe feel as if something inside her had collapsed.
Chen Tinghe was lost in thought and didn't pay attention to the road beneath her feet. The road wasn't very smooth, with uneven stones. She tripped over one of them.
Her shoulder was put around, the distance between them shortened, and she bumped into Chen Rancheng's arms.
He had a faint fragrance about him that Shen Tinghe couldn't describe, like mist after rain, morning dew, or smoke in the forest.
Shen Tinghe started making conversation, "Aren't you busy?"
Chen Rancheng reminded her to watch where she was going, "I'm busy, I'm going on a business trip tomorrow."
Shen Tinghe said, "Oh, then I wish you a safe business trip."
"And you, is your studies heavy?" Chen Rancheng returned the favor and followed up on the question.
Shen Tinghe pouted, "It's alright, I'll go online with my classmates when I have time, have a few drinks and chat."
Chen Rancheng raised an eyebrow. "Not going to sing a song?"
Sing a song? Shen Tinghe tried hard to recall when she had sung, and suddenly remembered that night at the Poem bar.
"Did you hear that?"
She couldn't help but complain to him about being forced into this situation, feeling incredibly panicked inside, but pretending to be a seasoned pro on the outside.
"Of course, otherwise how would I have found you?"
A gust of wind blew past a cloud, blocking the sunlight and casting a shadow, thus beginning a silent prelude.
"What do you want from me?"
Chen Rancheng noticed that Shen Tinghe's eyes were full of stars, and they were wet, especially when she was teasing him.
"I need your help."
The turmoil in his eyes was hidden by his sunglasses, making Shen Tinghe feel that she had been put at a disadvantage. She raised her hand, took off the glasses, and held them to her face, instantly covering half of her small face.
"How's the help going?"
Chen Ran chuckled, "Very satisfied."
With sunglasses on, she exuded an air of authority, her small face stern, her red lips parting sharply, "I'm not satisfied."
She walked a few steps forward, waved to the professor who had just been sitting next to her, and ran over to her to ask how her trip was going.
Chen Ran watched the person disappear in a flash, his words stuck in his throat, and he touched his nose with his hand in a loose gesture.
