Chapter 40: Differential Treatment
Duke subconsciously didn’t want others to know that Thor, who had clashed with him, was reused by mentor Kaz.
"Then don't worry, he will definitely not pass the first test. Didn't you see how short his magic power was when he was in the rune class? What's the use of such a person even if he learns fast if he can't cast witchcraft?" Doze was pouted by Thor and his tone was not very good.
He even speculated maliciously, "From what Teacher Gudo said, apprentices who fail the test will definitely be punished. Maybe Thor will be sent back to be a servant in the end! Rocky, don't you think so?"
"Ah? Yes." Rocky answered sullenly.
"Ah?" Jenna sympathized with Thor again, "That's a bit pitiful."
"That's right." Rocky immediately added.
Seeing his friend always stealing glances at Jenna, Doze rolled his eyes in his heart.
Just as a few people were discussing excitedly, the door of Room 603 opened again.
The discussion suddenly stopped.
Thor came out of the dormitory, walked to the next door 604, knocked on the door, and called out Kelly who was studying hard inside.
"Are there any new people in the tower?"
"Huh? Yeah, what's wrong? I thought you wouldn't care about these things." Kelly was still holding a thick roll of parchment in her hand, looking at Thor in surprise.
"Is there an apprentice with strong dark attribute talent among the newcomers?" Thor asked.
Keli spread her hands expressionlessly. The parchment hit the door frame, making a dull sound. "Do you think I care about these things?"
Thor, who was choked by Keli again, couldn't help but laugh out loud.
"I thought you'd be interested in a new talent."
"The progress is different now. Let's wait until someone catches up." Keli raised her eyebrows and looked at Thor, with a hand on her chin. "You are very interested in him. Do you want me to ask him about him?"
"That's not necessary."
Thor walked away with his arms folded, looking mysterious, leaving Kelly standing there, confused.
"What is he doing? Tormenting my curiosity?"
Keli pursed her lips and thought for a moment. She saw someone walking towards her out of the corner of her eye, so she quickly retreated back to the room and slammed the door.
Duke was rejected firmly, and the enthusiastic smile on his face turned gloomy in an instant.
There was an explosion of laughter behind him, which made him clench his fists and he wanted to smash down the dormitory door in front of him.
But now everyone knows that Keli has become the treasure of Teacher Gudo and is often taken by his side for teaching.
This is a special treatment that many apprentices dream of.
There were rumors among the new apprentices that she would be the first to become a second-level apprentice, and even quickly enter the third level.
Countless people want to get closer to Keli, even if they can only get a little bit of resources from her, maybe it will be enough for them to survive the apprenticeship tests.
But I don't know what was wrong with that Kelly's brain. She only wanted to stay with Thor.
All the cheerfulness and enthusiasm were only released to Thor.
This invisibly increased the newcomers' resentment towards Thor.
However, those who were haunted by resentment did not care at all.
Three thirty in the morning.
Thor suddenly opened his eyes, the chaos dissipated like a tide, and reason took control of his brain again.
Servant George sent Saul a duty roster a few days ago.
Today, it was Brown, one of West Germany's minions, who was on duty to clean the corridor.
Thor quickly put on his clothes, took out the Phantom Sound Eyes that he had carefully preserved, and left the dormitory.
…
Brown, who was a head taller than Sol, hunched over as he pushed the cart up the ramp to the west tower.
He raised his hand from time to time to tighten his collar.
The temperature inside the wizard tower is not low, but the cold is everywhere.
Ever since that damn Thor had damn near become the damn apprentice, Brown had to take up his job cleaning the corridors again.
This is the job with the highest mortality rate among servants. It can take anywhere from ten days to several months. There are always people who leave in the early morning and never come back.
"That George is lucky to be licking Thor's ass so quickly."
George was assigned other tasks by the housekeeper and did not participate in the early morning shift.
Now all the servants knew that George had clung to Saul's lap.
They immediately changed their attitude and put George, who was originally bullied, on the podium.
George slept on the right side of the big bunk, replacing Brown.
Brown lost his power from then on, but no one really dared to bully him.
But because of this, he lost his once transcendent status, and had to take on many tasks that he didn't have to do before.
The risk is naturally high.
Fortunately, Brown is not completely helpless. Faced with the dangerous early morning cleanup work, he is still confident that he can return safely.
Ever since Thor became an apprentice, the second-level apprentice never looked for Brown again, but he once left a life-saving prop for Brown.
Brown tightened his collar again and touched the small scent beads under his collar.
It was a thumb-sized translucent bead strung together with a black rope, with a small black insect sealed inside like amber.
Brown didn't know what it was, but the second-level apprentice told him that this small scent bead could protect Brown from general weird harm.
This was also the advance payment Brown had received for persecuting Saul.
It's a pity that after Thor left, the second-level apprentice was unwilling to take care of Brown openly, and was even more unwilling to accept Brown as his exclusive servant.
Otherwise, who would be afraid of George? Even the butler had to smile respectfully at him.
Although he felt regretful, Brown still happily squeezed the small incense beads. With this witchcraft prop, he was not at a loss.
Brown's sense of pleasure and superiority caused by the small scent beads did not last long before it was suppressed again by the strange atmosphere in the wizard tower.
"When can I leave this damn place? If I had known I would always be a servant, I would not... I might as well go back to the village and farm."
Regret is just a useless emotion that can only dampen his will.
Brown let out a long sigh and pushed the cart forward.
He remained silent as he turned the corner on the sixth floor.
Suddenly the wheel got stuck in the gap between the bricks and couldn't be moved no matter how hard we pushed.
"What happened?" Brown squatted down impatiently and tried to lift the wheel.
At this moment, he suddenly saw a foot on the stone bricks in front of the wheel.
A pale, almost purple, bare, bony little foot.
Then another foot that looked similar landed.
But the heel of that foot was facing Brown.
It's the opposite of the first foot.
Damn it!!! Brown didn't care about the car anymore. He pulled out the small scented bead hidden under his collar and raised it above his head. He closed his eyes tightly, hoping that the terror could be dispelled by the small scented bead.
There was no movement for a long while.
Brown opened his eyes tentatively a crack.
The hair on his body stood up.
There were bare feet standing all around him and the car.
The feet were arranged one right side up and one wrong side down, and each one was different. Some belonged to adults, some to children, and some to the elderly.
“Huh…huh…”
Brown's breathing began to tremble.
The scene before my eyes was very strange.
But what is even more creepy than the weirdness is that Brown has seen this scene before.
When he was ten years old.
The barbarians invaded his village and gathered together all the living creatures they could catch.
People and animals were split into two halves, one facing up and the other facing down, and pierced through with wooden stakes and left standing in the air.
I'm pushing today, but I have a cold, I feel so uncomfortable
