Chapter 610: Poor Apprentice and Serious Senior
Byron still used the place where he stayed as his laboratory. He took the black powder and went back to his room to study alone.
Thor greeted his senior whom he hadn't seen for a long time - even though he was no longer as strong as he was now - and went to see Noah, his apprentice who was thrown into the Chaos Zone by him, a day late.
The chaotic area was still full of black sand and soil. The terrain was flat and undulating, with no mountains or forests. Only at the end of the sky could one see some black and gray undulations that looked like mountains.
Thor looked back and saw a crooked little house on a small hill.
Or you can call it a shack.
The materials used to build the house were mainly some unused shelves that Thor threw to Noah.
The driver Mash, who no longer drives, provided huge mushrooms, but unfortunately these mushrooms could not thrive in the chaotic area. They could only grow to the thickness of an index finger in potted plants, which was barely enough to fill the stomach.
Thor walked a few steps to the simple house and walked around it but didn't see Noah.
He simply flew into the air and soon saw the young apprentice working with his head down in a low-lying area in the distance.
Thor flew over and saw Noah pulling out a dark green plant from the ground, which looked a bit like aloe vera.
"Teacher!" Noah looked up and saw Thor, and his eyes were filled with tears of excitement.
The days in the chaotic area were very difficult to bear. He wanted to meet other people, but was afraid to meet other people. Living alone, except for the sunrise and sunset, he hardly felt the passage of time.
In addition, Thor did not come within a month, and Noah had not slept well in the past two days. He was always worried that Thor had left him here alone.
Looking at his tearful little apprentice, Thor knew what he was worried about and couldn't help but smile and touch his head.
When the algae flew out from the back of Thor's neck and wrapped around Noah's lower abdomen, Thor took Noah back to his cabin.
"Didn't you use the witchcraft props I gave you when you built this house?"
Some witchcraft props can also be used by ordinary people without magical powers.
Noah shrank his neck. "I, I thought it would be better to save more magic crystals before I get familiar with this place, so I didn't want to use them."
He was a little worried that Thor would blame him for not trusting him.
But Thor approved of Noah's choice. "That's fine. After all, you live here alone. It's more important to have your own opinions. What's that in your hand? Is it a plant from here?"
Noah raised his hand. "It's a plant that has a lot of water. I tested it with the reagent you left behind. It's basically safe, so I want to transplant it near the house to see if I can grow more."
Although Thor also left a lot of food for Noah, he was still trying to explore new ways of survival.
Thor looked at the other things Noah had picked up one by one, a small amount of shriveled plants, some remains that looked like dead organisms, and a lot of useless stones.
Because Noah's knowledge reserves were insufficient, Thor did not blame him, but encouraged him to continue exploring, but on the premise of ensuring his own safety.
"How many basic runes have you learned now?"
"Three." Noah immediately squatted down and wrote on the ground with his fingers.
There was no way to infuse magic power, nor could he mobilize his mental strength. Now Noah could only memorize the appearance of the runes by rote.
"You were able to learn two runes on your own without any guidance? It seems that you have a good talent for graphics. However, when you learn compound runes in the future, this little talent will not be enough."
Thor squatted down without hesitation and said, "I will teach you a method called the coordinate method. It will help you remember it more easily. The most important thing is that it will help you understand compound runes in the future."
There was no one around, so Thor used the ground as a blackboard. He combined his experience in learning runes with his experience in casting spells over the years and reorganized a set of coordinate methods to teach the apprentice.
Noah opened his eyes wide, as if he saw a new world.
A day passed quickly in eager learning. Thor finally reminded Noah to be careful of monsters and even more so of intelligent creatures. Then he left the chaotic area and returned to the Pure Spirit Wizard Tower.
Sensing Thor's return, butler Hope immediately came to the door.
"Master Tower Master, Mr. Byron came to see you last night."
Senior Byron is actually quite a homebody and usually won’t come to me unless there is something going on.
Thor quickly found Byron and saw that his room was littered with draft papers.
"..." Thor felt like he had no idea where to start standing at the door. "You've adapted pretty quickly!"
Byron looked up, not paying any attention to Thor's complaints, "Come and see this."
Solkua passed the mess on the floor and came to the table, and was shocked to find that Byron's hands were covered with blisters. Some of the blisters had broken and were still oozing green juice.
"Pollution?" Thor frowned immediately.
Byron pointed to the parchment spread out on the table and said, "Look at this."
Only then did Thor turn his gaze to the paper.
I saw crooked words written all over the parchment, and a conclusion was drawn at the end.
...The composition formula of black powder (Byron's abbreviation for the powder that Thor brought back from the Chaos Realm, which has the same pollution source characteristics as the Black Tide) is reversible. Once this formula is mastered, the Black Tide pollution unique to the Borderlands can be converted into inert black powder... Similarly, by reversing the formula, the inert black powder can be restored to active Black Tide pollution.
Thor's mouth slowly opened. He didn't expect that Byron could come to this conclusion in just one day.
"Take a look at my derivation. Is there anything wrong with it? If you can't see the problem, I will continue to derive the formula in this direction. Hmm... let's call it the inertization formula."
Thor read the entire formula, but couldn't find any logical errors at first glance.
His first reaction was to show it to Camus, but he rejected the idea the next second.
He and senior Byron worked out the inertization formula together.
You can't rely on Camus for everything, as that will make him lose the habit of independent thinking.
"I haven't found any problems for the time being. It may be that the time is too short. Let me take it back and study it." Thor immediately performed a 0th-level copying spell and copied the parchment without any magical properties.
This was a question that Thor had never thought of, and it immediately aroused his strong interest.
If the pollution in the no-man's land can really be inertized into almost harmless black powder, then when the black tide really breaks out in the future, can we prevent ourselves and the people around us from being alienated and polluted?
He has had too many things on his mind recently, and even though he had acquired the black fans a long time ago, he had never had the time to delve into it.
As a result, Byron suddenly pressed down the parchment that Thor had copied with his palm.
Juice splashed everywhere.
"No!" Byron refused to study this topic with Thor. "You have just entered the second stage, and your strength is not stable. I heard from Lord Kira that entering the second stage is different from before. The knowledge system and world cognition need to be improved. Before that, you'd better not participate in any research."
Looking at Byron's serious face, Thor raised his hands in surrender, "Okay, okay, but let me treat your hands first. How come they are burned after just one day of not seeing you?"
