Close the ring
Xiushen Island sounds like a place for self-cultivation and full of hope, but only those who have actually been there know what it means to step into it.
Ding Can stepped aside and asked, "Are you familiar with the doctor with glasses standing in the back?"
Tan Wan'er looked straight ahead. "We only know his last name is Fang. We don't see the doctor very often. We don't usually see him during training. He's only assigned to accompany us occasionally."
The doctor was speaking slowly and at a leisurely pace, mostly on topics like human health, which didn't sound very informative.
Suddenly, there was a noise from the side of the castle. Ding Can glanced over and saw several people entangled with each other.
The man in the middle had a cloth stuffed in his mouth and his hands and feet were tied with restraints. He was dragged out from the exit by two people who looked like nurses.
Although he couldn't make any sound, one could still clearly see the ferocious expression on his face. He was whimpering and looked extremely terrified.
Seeing him being treated like this, Yu Fu couldn't help but ask, "What's going on?"
"Maybe I was too tired yesterday and didn't wake up for the early morning broadcast, which would be considered as being unable to carry out training that day." Tan Wan'er said calmly.
Yu Fu understood: "So he was taken directly there by the doctor for examination?"
Not only daily exercise, but even the biological clock is controlled. Living under such great pressure every day, with the double torture from physical and mental, it is strange that there can be normal people.
Tan Wan'er was no longer surprised: "He will be the same as those who were taken away before."
It was called an inspection, but he would never have the chance to appear in public again. This was the last time they saw each other.
The doctor in front of him was still giving his morning lecture, oblivious to the noise around him, as if he had gotten used to it, or rather, he didn't even pay attention to this person.
"It's been a while since we've seen anyone late in the morning." Tan Wan'er said with some regret in her tone.
Some people avoid looking and can't bear to look over there anymore. They can't help but imagine that person as themselves and know in advance what fate may happen.
After the man was taken to the side of the castle and disappeared from sight, the doctor finally finished his speech: "Okay, today's lecture is over. Let's all do our morning exercises."
"What is morning exercise?" This was the second time Ding Can had heard the word, and his intuition was different from what he had imagined.
Tan Wan'er took the first step and said, "Follow me. Actually, we're just running around the castle. It's a warm-up for the day. It will also help us close the circle."
Not far ahead, Ding Can saw several low pillars standing on the ground. There were scanning devices on the top of the pillars, which were just at the same level as a person's chest, which was the right height for using a wristband.
However, before reaching the machine, someone started taking small steps to get closer. When they got close, they put their bracelet close to the machine. A beeping sound indicated that the data entry was successful.
Then the man continued to run forward, and his speed seemed quite fast, like lightning.
Tan Wan'er explained, "There's a timer on it, and we have to complete a full lap within ten minutes, so some people start their run-up early just to save a few seconds."
Ding Can took a look at the area of the castle. Although it was indeed larger than what he usually saw, it was only about one thousand meters at most. Ten minutes was more than enough to walk around it even at a brisk pace.
College students can run one kilometer in three or four minutes. For ordinary people, five or six minutes is also enough. Why are they in such a hurry?
“Is there a set pace?”
Tan Wan'er also made a move to run: "Not really, but this is an obstacle course, there are many difficult and complicated obstacles on the way, be careful, I'm leaving now, I'll see you here later."
After she reminded him, he swiped his wristband and ran away.
Obstacle course? Ding Can glanced at the person in front of him.
This place was probably specially set up for morning jogging. A layer of plastic running track was laid on the ground. The brick-red running track surface looks out of tune with the surrounding natural scenery.
There are half-person-high fences on both sides, which determine everyone's walking route.
It didn't look suspicious, but Ding Can still believed what Tan Wan'er said. It seemed that there was no competition among the people here, so there was no need to harm others, and she didn't need to deceive herself.
"Better be careful later." Because there were so many people, the check-in area was a bit crowded, and the two of them were waiting in a long line at the end of the queue.
Arriving in front of the scanner, Ding Can twisted his wrist. The bracelet made a sound and the dial lit up, indicating that he had entered and began a ten-minute countdown.
She was afraid that her body would not be able to bear running too fast, so she and Yu Fu moved at a constant speed, trying their best to stay side by side.
Because of Tan Wan'er's reminder, she looked around cautiously and noticed that the people running in front seemed to be avoiding the edge intentionally or unintentionally, for fear that something would suddenly rush out.
Just as I was thinking about it, I heard a scream from the front. It seemed that someone didn't adjust his steps properly and fell forward.
The man fell to the ground, and the person running behind him didn't stop and stepped on his back.
Although he reacted quickly and avoided stepping on the person's head, he still stepped on him pretty hard.
The man lay there for a while before he recovered. He struggled to stand up on his own and walked out without even taking a rest.
"The ground beneath his feet moved just now." Yu Fu said in a deep voice.
When the accident happened, my eyes happened to be on that place, and the ground collapsed in a short distance on the plastic track.
It's not too obvious, but for people who have adapted to the flatness of the ground, a slight change in height will have an impact.
A fall is not inevitable, but even if someone reacts, the close proximity of everyone running together could cause chaos.
The injured person did not receive much attention from everyone. Many people did not even give him any extra glances and just walked away.
Ding Can turned around and saw that he was still limping forward.
For a body like this, ten minutes is indeed a bit too stressful. No wonder Tan Wan'er said it was an obstacle race. This is just what happened at the starting point. No one knows what will happen next.
Turning the side of the castle, they saw the back of the building.
Behind the castle is a pristine rainforest with some altitude. From this angle, it looks more like a small hill, covered in dark green, and there is a faint mist rising from the deeper part.
There was no sound of birds singing, and the rainforest seemed very quiet, as if there was no living creature at all.
The uninhabited wilderness on the isolated island sounded very dangerous. Ding Can subconsciously felt that it would be best not to set foot in the back mountain.
It seems that there are no other buildings on the island except the castle where they live, so where do the doctors live?
Thinking of this, she moved her ears, and her hearing suddenly became very good. She heard a sound, the sound of something leaking air, which seemed a little familiar.
She quickly remembered what it looked like: the kind of humidifier and cooler you'd see when visiting a scenic spot, which sprays out a fine mist of water.
In the hot summer, it can provide tourists with a good experience.
But the temperature on the island is already cool and low, so there is no need to use a humidifier to improve it.
"Be careful..." Before she could finish her words, water mist sprayed out from certain locations on the railings on both sides of the runway.
And it is much stronger than imagined, almost like a high-pressure water column.
Not only around them, but also in front of them, there were people who encountered the same thing, and they were closer. They heard those people exclaiming, and there seemed to be a few screams mixed in.
Someone half-squatted down, covering the part of his body that was splashed with water. He was in so much pain that he couldn't straighten his back, and his face turned pale in an instant.
This condition appeared on the originally sallow and bloodless face. No matter what the reason was, the effect was quite quick.
Ding Can then realized that these water droplets were probably not just ordinary water sources. They had been careful and did not get too close to the railings on both sides.
But some of it still got onto the back of my hand, causing a dull pain in the skin, followed by a burning pain.
Although I jumped away in time to avoid it, the aftereffects were still there. It was a stinging pain at first, and then turned into a heartburning pain, as if it had invaded my bone marrow and was being bitten by countless tiny insects.
I even felt numb, and my hands slowly lost sensation. Although my legs were still moving forward, I didn't know how much longer I could hold on.
This is more like some kind of highly effective anesthetic, and the feeling of lightheadedness is becoming more and more obvious.
Someone in front was already staggering and unable to stand. Just when Ding Can had anticipated this and was thinking of at least holding onto the railing to steady himself, a hand reached out from the side and grabbed his arm.
Her whole body immediately felt much more relaxed. How could she forget Yu Fu, the humanoid cheat? He could exchange props anytime and anywhere, and of course he could also cure illnesses.
"I'll take you for a walk. This tool will take longer to take effect."
Yu Fu grabbed her, and the two of them moved forward in unison at a uniform speed. Although they were much slower than others at the beginning, they gradually narrowed the gap with the people in front of them.
Afterwards, of course, I witnessed the various methods of obstruction during this morning run.
Using poison, hidden weapons, traps... many kinds of things, it does take some time to complete the course.
The finish line and the starting point were at the same place. It took the two of them five or six minutes to run a lap. Tan Wan'er was even faster. She had already sat down on the ground next to the finish line with her head down.
Although they had only met for a short time, as the only person here who could speak, she still walked forward.
Tan Wan'er's ankle was injured and swollen, and she was applying ointment on it.
"Are you okay?" Ding Can looked at the red skin and estimated that his movements for the whole day would be affected.
Tan Wan'er sighed, "I'm used to it. I'd find it strange if I didn't get hurt every day. It's not normal to have a bump or a bruise."
"Where did this ointment come from?" Yu Fu noticed that the bottle of ointment had not been used much and was almost brand new. If it was brought with him when he came to the island, it should not have been kept for so long.
"I got it from the doctors. They tried every way to torture me. Since we completed the task with so much difficulty, they should at least give us a reward."
The doctors who had just appeared have now disappeared.
"Do you know where those doctors usually stay during the day? I just ran around here and didn't see any other places here except the castle."
"They live underground, and that's our infirmary."
