Chapter 40

Chapter 40

Gu Yubai nodded and said, "Let's go with this one."

Yes!

Yu Xia secretly cheered in her heart.

"Mr. Gu, what would you like to eat? I'll have the owner grill it," Yu Xia said.

Gu Yubai glanced at the barbecue stall.

The owner immediately said with great insight, "Handsome, what would you like to order? Our meat is very fresh and tastes especially good."

Gu Yubai didn't have any specific requests. He only came to eat here because he thought the little streamer liked it.

"You can choose, I'm fine with anything." Gu Yubai gave her the choice.

"Oh... okay." Yu Xia didn't expect Gu Yubai to be so easy to please; she thought he would be very particular about food.

Okay, I'm judging people by their appearance again!

This absolutely must not happen again!

"Can you eat spicy food?" Yu Xia asked.

"It's alright," Gu Yubai replied.

He doesn't actually eat much spicy food; he thinks it's unhealthy.

But since the streamer asked that question, she probably likes spicy food. He thought of the photos the streamer posted on her homepage; the barbecue was bright red, and it looked like it was sprinkled with a lot of chili peppers. He also remembered that the streamer had added a "delicious" emoji to that photo.

So he added, "It's edible, you can put in more."

"Okay." Yu Xia smiled.

She never expected that Gu Yubai's tastes would match hers so well that she didn't need to prepare anything special.

That's fantastic!

It seems that business trips aren't so difficult after all.

It's so easy.

Yu Xia ordered the barbecue and handed the order to the owner: "Okay, that's all, boss."

"Okay, here you go." The shopkeeper took it and put it aside. "Handsome guys and beautiful girls, you can sit there and wait. We'll bring it to you in a bit." The shopkeeper pointed behind him.

It was a makeshift area with a few tables and benches, simply serving as a dining space.

Walking up to the table, although it had been wiped clean, there was still a thin layer of oil on the surface.

The bench was a red plastic chair, which looked out of place next to the earth-colored table.

Gu Yubai wiped the bench before sitting down.

A layer of black ash appeared on the tissue.

It's a bit dirty.

As soon as she sat down, Yu Xia wasn't too particular. She put her things on the stool, went to pour two glasses of water, and came back.

"Mr. Gu, have some water." Yu Xia placed a disposable cup of water in front of him.

"Okay, thank you." Gu Yubai responded, then took out a few tissues and wiped away the thin layer of grease on the table.

This barbecue stall is doing quite well. Besides their table, there are three other tables next to it, and they are all basically full.

Several bottles were piled on the ground, and the sound of them clinking glasses could still be heard.

"Mr. Gu, what would you like to drink?" Yu Xia asked.

"Plain water is fine." Gu Yubai picked up a disposable cup from the table and took a sip.

The water was warm.

“Oh… okay,” Yu Xia glanced at the wine bottles on the floor of the next table, “I thought you wanted a drink or some alcohol.”

"You'd rather drink, right?" Gu Yubai put down his glass.

It doesn't taste good.

"Huh?" Yu Xia was stunned.

However, she soon realized what Gu Yubai was talking about.

The word "alcohol" reminded both of the embarrassing incident at the Year bar...

"Cough cough cough," Yu Xia coughed and looked away somewhat awkwardly.

After a while, having composed herself, she sheepishly offered another explanation: "I'm sorry, Mr. Gu, that day I..."

But before she could finish speaking, Gu Yubai interrupted her: "Didn't we talk about that the other day?"

Huh? What do you mean?

“Didn’t I already explain it that day? Didn’t I also say it was okay?” Gu Yubai said.

Oh... I did say that.

"But that's not very formal, is it? I was afraid it would leave a bad impression on you," Yu Xia said somewhat embarrassedly.

The person who touched his pectoral muscles didn't reduce contact; instead, he went from being the client to becoming the boss.

The relationship has become closer, and if it's not resolved properly, it will really be a thorn in our side. Every time we see each other, we'll have to think about it, which will be so awkward.

"So how do you plan to formally apologize?" Gu Yubai asked, continuing her question.

This question has caught Yu Xia off guard.

How should a formal apology be made?

"Well..." Yu Xia thought for a moment, then hesitated before tentatively asking, "I'm sorry?"

He sounded extremely unsure of himself.

"That's it?" Gu Yubai raised an eyebrow.

What else do you want?

Or should I kneel down for you?

Yu Xia placed her fingers on the table, then snapped her index and middle fingers together, making a kneeling gesture. Looking at Gu Yubai, she tentatively asked, "I'm sorry?"

Gu Yubai couldn't help but laugh, a slight smile curving his lips.

Seeing him smile, Yu Xia hesitated before asking, "President Gu? Does this... count as passing the test?"

Gu Yubai smiled and nodded, in a good mood: "Okay."

Actually, at this point, it would be acceptable for the streamer to say that she wanted to touch it again.

Hearing him say that, Yu Xia smiled, feeling much more relaxed.

She found getting along with Gu Yubai quite easy and not stressful at all. After all, Gu Yubai was so easy to talk to, didn't skip meals, was hardworking, didn't exploit his employees, and even volunteered to do the work.

It's actually quite good.

Just then, the barbecue was ready, and the owner brought it over on a plate.

"Here it comes! Delicious grilled skewers! Handsome guys and beautiful ladies, please enjoy!"

Although Gu Yubai said he could handle spicy food, Yu Xia still ordered less spicy food from the restaurant owner.

Two large plates of fragrant grilled skewers are placed in front of you, making your mouth water.

"Mr. Gu, try this." Yu Xia picked up a skewer of grilled squid. "This is especially delicious."

Yu Xia recommended it very enthusiastically, and Gu Yubai took a bite.

The seasoning was a bit too strong, which made Gu Yubai frown; he didn't really like strong flavors.

However, Yu Xia across from him also picked up a skewer and ate it with relish. When she saw him stop, her eyes were shining brightly as she looked at him, seemingly eagerly awaiting his response.

At this moment, Gu Yubai suddenly felt that he couldn't accept it either.

By the moonlight, looking at Yu Xia's bright and expectant face, even the squid, which was obviously not to his taste, became delicious in his mouth.

“Not bad,” he said.

After saying that, as if to prove his point, he finished eating the rest of his food.

It was a little choking, but he held back from coughing and put the skewer in the trash can next to him.

Yu Xia smiled and then recommended to him, "And this, Mr. Gu, you can try it, this shrimp is also delicious."

"Hmm." Gu Yubai picked up the string of shrimp again.

Gu Yubai rarely eats at night market stalls.

First, he doesn't like noisy places and doesn't want to queue in crowded areas; second, he doesn't like eating outdoors, preferring private, enclosed rooms; and third, it's not healthy, so he never eats that.

Gu Yubai carefully picked up the edge of the skewer with his fingers, trying to avoid touching the charcoal and seasonings on it, and slowly brought it to his mouth, eating with extreme care and caution.

Seeing his obviously clumsy movements, Yu Xia put down the skewers in her hand and slowed down her movements as well, asking, "Mr. Gu, do you... not come to eat barbecue very often?"

Gu Yubai did not deny it, saying, "Yes, not many."

Yu Xia pursed her lips, unsure of what to say.

It seems different from what she thought. She assumed Gu Yubai brought up the night market stall because he wanted to eat there, but now it seems that's not the case.

Yu Xia suddenly felt a little awkward. It was similar to organizing a gathering, assuming everyone would like the arrangement and have a great time, only to later discover that one person didn't actually enjoy it and was just going along with it. This made Yu Xia feel extremely uncomfortable, as if she had let the other person down.

"That's why I came today, because I don't come here often. Shouldn't people try more things they've never experienced before? Otherwise, what's the point of living in your own world? Wouldn't that make you a frog in a well?" Gu Yubai said.

When he said this, his tone was calm and natural, just like when he was explaining where the data was incorrect and needed to be redone.

Yu Xia, who was still feeling guilty, was amused by his words and her previous emotions vanished.

"Mr. Gu is right, life is about experiencing as much as possible."

"Hmm." Gu Yubai responded with a blank expression.

“I think it’s pretty good.” He picked up another string of them, his tone devoid of emotion.

He really doesn't like eating at night market stalls.

However, sitting here alone with the young anchorwoman, eating from the same plate, chatting leisurely and comfortably, we are enjoying time together.

The occasional noises of other people could be heard around, the night was so quiet, the moonlight was so beautiful, the little anchor's face was so lively and vivid, and there was a breeze blowing.

Although the plastic stool was uncomfortable for him and the strong smell of cumin on the table made him feel slightly uncomfortable, he felt that if the young anchor was sitting opposite him, it wouldn't be so unbearable.

At least, he is feeling happy at this moment.
