Chapter 59

Chapter 59

The next day, Jiang Wan woke up very early because she suddenly had a coffee craving.

Her heaviest coffee drinking began in her ninth year of middle school. Back then, there was a coffee called Rainbow Manor that had cinnamon in it. Every night, she would soak two cups of it in water before starting to work on her homework.

But caffeine had no effect on her. She still felt sleepy after drinking it.

Chen Meiyu and Dong Lin, who were in the same room, were still half asleep. Jiang Guan got up, put on some clothes, grabbed a wet towel and wiped his face before going out to buy coffee.

She'd found a reputable coffee shop online about a ten-minute walk from their guesthouse. The Hemu morning market was bustling with activity. Vendors had set up several square tables in a long row along the roadside, piled high with plates of all sizes, filling them with pies of various flavors, steaming buns, and wontons in salty milk tea. Steam filled the air. A middle-aged woman in a headscarf, standing in front of the stall, expertly and hurriedly attended to the coming and going customers.

The coffee shop still looked deserted.

Jiang Wan ordered a latte at the front desk and found a seat by the window. While waiting, she took out her phone, took a picture of the morning scenery outside the window, and sent it to Lu Jiyu: "Good morning, when will you be back today?"

She hadn't thought he'd reply yet. After she finished sending the WeChat message, her coffee arrived. She took two sips, and Chen Meiyun sent her a WeChat message asking her to come back for breakfast. Jiang Wan quickly sent an "OK" emoji back, and just as she stood up to leave, the sound of rain hitting banana leaves stopped her.

The sky outside the window, which had just been cloudless, suddenly started to rain.

Jiang Wan didn't bring an umbrella. She stood at the door and watched the rain for a while. A young lady at the counter reminded her: "This rain comes and goes quickly. You can wait a while."

Having said that, Jiang Wan returned to her previous position with her coffee. But today's rain seemed to be against her. She had completed five rounds of Connect the Dots, but the rain not only continued but also got heavier.

She started to scroll through her phone while hesitating whether to ask Chen Meiyu to pick her up with an umbrella.

until.

"Jiang Wan, you are here too?" Jiang Wan knew it was Li Yiran just by hearing the voice without even looking up.

"Do you want to go together?" After buying the coffee, he walked over to Jiang Wan.

Jiang Wan looked at the umbrella in his hand. There was no reason to refuse. She stood up from the chair in a second and replied with a smile: "Let's go."

Li Yiran's umbrella was a bit small, and the rain outside felt heavier than it did indoors. Jiang Wan didn't like getting wet, and the two of them unknowingly grew closer.

Until Jiang Wan's arm unconsciously rubbed against Li Yiran's hand, and the other party turned his head to look at her.

Jiang Wan also looked at him: "You came all the way from Australia to Xinjiang, is it really just for tourism?"

Li Yiran took a sip of the coffee in his hand and asked, "Do you think it's possible?"

"Actually, I always thought that with your personality, you should be able to thrive abroad and find a girlfriend based on your zodiac signs."

"You think I didn't?"

Jiang Wan wiped the raindrops from his face with his hand. "So, am I the last of the twelve zodiac signs now? Am I the last important piece you need to gather to summon the dragon?"

Li Yiran almost couldn't help laughing: "Jiang Wan, you are still so interesting."

The tone is very dangerous, three parts weariness and seven parts sighing, as if wanting to relive the past.

"What's wrong with you? Is your family bankrupt?" Jiang Wan rarely showed an interest in getting to the bottom of things.

Otherwise, there is no need for a boy like Li Yiran, who has a wealthy family, a gentlemanly character, and is good at having fun, to still be obsessed with her after three or four years.

"I don't have any money either, so it's no use asking me. I suggest you find a beautiful, rich woman and ask her to lend you some money to save your company."

"Jiang Wan."

He was halfway there when he suddenly stopped in the middle of the street.

Tourists without umbrellas dashed past them in a panic, coats tucked over their foreheads. Others, more reckless than usual, walked confidently and freely in the rain. The breakfast stalls that had been steaming hot just a moment ago now seemed to have been doused with flames, covered with tarpaulins, emitting only intermittent wisps of white smoke.

Everything that was originally in order was disrupted by the heavy rain.

If he stopped, Jiang Wan had no choice but to stop as well.

"I want to say—"

He was about to speak when Jiang Wan interrupted him: "Wait a minute, don't say anything now." Seeing him staring at her with deep affection, Jiang Wan was a little worried that he would say something she couldn't handle in the street. After all, the umbrella was in his hand now. If he didn't get the answer he wanted and turned around and left in anger, Jiang Wan would be soaked.

"Are you sure?" Li Yiran pointed at a breakfast stall in front of him with a strange look on his face. "That guy has been staring at us for a long time. He was with you, but he was the one who left yesterday, right?"

The huge curtain of rain is like a blurred filter over the world.

Everything was hazy and unreal under the rain, but when Jiang Wan turned his head to look in the direction Li Yiran was pointing, he saw a tall young man holding a black umbrella.

The world seemed to become clearer at this moment because of his existence.

He had a tall and straight figure, deep and sharp facial features, and an all-black outfit that seemed to be a natural match for him.

All of these add up to the appearance of a handsome guy who is very hard to mess with and keeps strangers away.

Jiang Wan had seen many handsome guys, but the biggest difference between Lu Jiyu and them was the clean and cool aura he exuded from his body. He was like a sword that had not been unsheathed for a thousand years, but after being unsheathed, it still flashed with the sharpness of a thousand years ago.

"How long have you been seeing him?"

"I saw it when we came out of the coffee shop. Didn't you really see it?" Perhaps because he saw Jiang Wan's shoulder half wet from the rain, Li Yiran moved closer to her with an umbrella in hand.

"Why don't we just curse at each other now?" Otherwise it would be too troublesome to explain.

"What's wrong?" Li Yiran heard that she wanted to distance herself from him, and his tone immediately became cold: "Is he someone very important?"

Jiang Wan had nothing to hide from Li Yiran, an international friend who was about to fly back to Australia. "What do you think?"

Li Yiran judged from her expression: "The person you have a crush on? No, someone like you shouldn't have a crush on someone, or an ambiguous one?"

Jiang Wan handed the coffee back to him and looked around for anything to keep him out of the rain. Lu Jiyu didn't seem to be planning to come over. Never mind, a little rain wouldn't hurt.

"He's my boyfriend, but we haven't made it public yet."

Li Yiran was visibly stunned for a moment, but quickly regained his composure: "Since it's not public, I can pretend I don't know. Then I can continue pursuing you."

Oh my god, this guy is a genius. He's a true master of two boats.

"It would be better for you to publish a book about your theory and make some money instead of wasting your time here." Jiang Wan originally wanted to say that it was up to you to do whatever you want, since they would go their separate ways after the trip was over in a few days anyway.

But the other party didn't do anything excessive, so it seemed like there was no point in saying more.

As she stepped into the rain, a dark shadow came down in front of her and covered her head.

Jiang Wan subconsciously raised her head and met a pair of dark eyes. The owner of these eyes was looking down at her condescendingly.

"Hello."

"I'm Lu Jiyu. I was in a hurry yesterday and didn't have time to introduce myself." He stretched out his hand towards Li Yiran, his finger bones clearly visible and strong and powerful.

Look at her and then greet him.

"Li Yiran." After a symbolic handshake, their eyes met mid-air. Jiang Wan wasn't interested in playing the two-man-one-woman game. She ducked under Lu Jiyu's umbrella, said goodbye to Li Yiran, and quickly walked in the opposite direction, pulling the people around her.

"Did you have coffee with him so early in the morning?" Lu Jiyu asked calmly as he was grabbed by the sleeve and dragged a few steps forward.

Jiang Wan stopped and looked at him, carefully examining his face from top to bottom. "Are you really that strict? I feel really stressed when you do this."

"Why should I care about you? On what grounds?" He chuckled at himself and looked at him with extremely distant eyes.

Here we go again, the wet little puppy abandoned on a rainy day.

"I didn't ask you what you did yesterday."

"Then ask." He looked at her with resentment.

"Okay." Jiang Wan followed suit: "Who did you meet yesterday?"

Her insincere questioning left Lu Jiyu speechless. He began to lose his temper, wanting to be coaxed, and replied coldly, "I don't want to talk about it now."

"Then don't say it." Jiang Wan didn't have the heart to coax him now, and walked straight into the rain. Seeing this, Lu Jiyu hurriedly caught up with her with an umbrella: "Why are you still angry?"

She ignored him.

"Where are we going now?" Lu Jiyu could only ask again.

"Go get some coffee."

"Chen Meiyun said she wanted to drink too."

The two returned to the coffee shop, and the waitress was still the same young lady from before. Seeing Lu Jiyu next to Jiang Wan, her eyes lit up completely. Then, while turning back to make coffee, she whispered to her partner, "Wow, this beautiful woman came to buy two cups of coffee, and each time it was a different handsome guy."

"Then this one is more handsome this time."

"I think so too."

“It was delicious.”

The two bought their coffee without saying a word and came out, walking back slowly with umbrellas. The rain had stopped briefly when they were in the store just now, but now it started to rain heavily again.

Neither of them spoke, as if they were in a tug-of-war. They stared straight ahead, each ignoring the other. When they were almost halfway there, Lu Jiyu spoke first: "The rain has stopped. Should we put away our umbrellas?"

"don't want."

"It's just right for shade if there's no rain." Jiang Wan rejected his suggestion.

"Tell me, did you go to see your aunt yesterday?"

"How do you know? Did Zhou Zifang tell you?"

"Lu Dashi's eyes are too high. Aren't there only a few people and things that can make you care?"

"Scold me again?"

"That's right." Jiang Wan admitted honestly, "I'm really scolding you this time."

Lu Jiyu: ...

Jiang Wan had probably learned about the conflicts between Lu Jiyu and his aunt from the people around them.

"Next time your aunt comes to you about this, take me with her. Maybe she can give me a few checks."

"You wish." Lu Jiyu said this, but his tone was not as hard as before.

A familiar melody came from a small shop on the corner of the street. Jiang Wan stopped and listened for a while: "What's the name of this song?"

"A thousand years later, JJ Lin's." Lu Jiyu mentioned it from the side.

Jiang Wan touched him with his arm: "Aren't you a good singer? Can you sing this song?"

"So what?"

"Sing for me?" Jiang Wan suddenly moved closer to him and became more demanding.

Lu Jiyu immediately shook his head and refused: "I don't want to sing on the street."

"What's the big deal? Many great artists used to be street artists."

"That sounds nice, but why don't you sing?" Lu Jiyu glanced at her lazily.

"Are you sure you want to hear me sing?" Jiang Wan didn't seem to give him time to refute, and started singing "Garden of the Motherland".

Lu Jiyu wanted to cover her mouth but it was too late: "I finally know which window God has closed for you."

Jiang Wan asked him democratically: "Why, you don't like this one? Then I want to change it?"

"It's him."

"It's him."

"That's him, the young hero, Little Nezha—he's higher than the heavens—."

More and more passersby cast their gazes at him, but Jiang Wan became more and more excited as he sang.

Lu Jiyu himself was laughing so hard but still wanted to save face, so he moved the umbrella down to block the faces of the two people and said in a half-coaxing, half-urging tone: "It sounds good, but can we sing it again when we get home?"

Jiang Wan pointed at him tremblingly, pretending to be furious: "What do you mean, do you think I'm embarrassing?"

"Really?" Lu Jiyu also started to act out, expressing his sincerity from the bottom of his heart: "I mainly feel that you can't let them listen to your singing for free if it's so beautiful. You should at least charge admission, right?"

"Then raise your umbrella."

"I don't want it."

"Who said we should put away our umbrellas when it stops raining? Hurry up and put away your umbrella."

"No, it's just a good shade."

"Your sun is right across from you, Lu Jiyu!"

"The sun is not mine."

"You are being unreasonable."

"Who told you to scold me?"

After Lu Jiyu separated from Jiang Wan on the way, he decided to go back to his room to catch up on some sleep. He had woken up at around four in the morning and had driven all the way back. When he opened his phone to check the messages, he saw Chen Meiyu in the group chat saying that Jiang Wan had gone out for coffee and had asked someone to save her breakfast.

Then Lu Jiyu took an umbrella and went to look for someone.

Jiang Wan had already mentioned Li Yiran to him yesterday via text message. Lu Jiyu had originally considered him just another suitor of Jiang Wan's, but when they ran into him today, he realized he wasn't as carefree as he'd imagined, especially the way he looked at Jiang Wan—he was a man himself, so of course he was familiar with the murky side of things.

He stood at the door of the B&B and was about to use his key to open the door when the phone in his pocket vibrated several times.

Lu Jiyu took out his cell phone, clicked on it and took a look. There were three voice messages from Jiang Wan.

He clicked on the first one and after a few seconds couldn't help but smile again. There were people around and the two were busy bickering, so he hadn't listened very carefully.

It was quiet, but her singing was lively and vibrant, like a huge crowd. Lu Jiyu put his hand on the doorknob, leaned against the doorframe, and listened over and over again.

It’s just like what the lyrics say - she is the young hero.
