Chapter 68

Chapter 68

The two of them sat in a corner of the sofa. After a while of silence, Lu Jiyu spoke first: "Do you want to turn on the light?"

"Never mind, let's just leave it at that."

Jiang Guan leaned his head back on the sofa and suddenly felt that this pitch black was quite nice.

"How's that thing you talked about on the phone?"

"Is my dad remarrying?" Jiang Wan fumbled on the sofa for a while, and Lu Jiyu handed his hand over. She took his hand and answered while playing.

"That's it." Jiang Wan's tone didn't sound depressed, but he wasn't happy either: "Is this why you came back early?"

"Didn't you say that if I didn't come back, your honeymoon period with me would be over?"

Jiang Wan smiled and suddenly asked, "What major did you tell me last time?"

“Computer Science and Technology.”

Jiang Wan heard him say that he planned to enter the Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics in the future: "Do you have to study for a master's degree in the future?"

Lu Jiyu wasn't quite sure why she suddenly asked this, so he said cautiously, "Yes, undergraduate studies are just general studies. Once you've pretty much determined your research direction in graduate school, you can start intensive studies. As for where you'll work in the future, we'll consider the specific circumstances at that time."

Lu Jiyu knew they were still too young to talk about the future, but in a few years they would be legally eligible, so it didn't seem too early. So he'd thought about it several times: if they got married, they should try to arrange for their jobs in the same city.

Jiang Wan hummed vaguely, "My mother called me today."

She paused at this point.

Lu Jiyu didn't say anything and continued to wait for her to continue.

Jiang Wan changed her sitting position, crossing her legs on the sofa. She turned sideways to face Lu Jiyu, holding his hands in her hands and tossing them up and down like sandbags. "She asked me about my dad and my major."

"I chose management as she requested."

"Then she mentioned asking me to join her company after graduation. Well, that's very similar to you, except you've already rejected your aunt. But I don't know how to tell her."

Jiang Wan was talking to himself alone, seemingly not expecting any response.

Lu Jiyu's hand, which she had been playing with for a long time, suddenly reached out and squeezed Jiang Wan's hand: "I didn't know how to tell my aunt before, but then I reached a critical point and said it naturally."

"You mean, I can't say it now because the time is not right yet?"

"You could say that."

Most people need fate to give them a push when they make crucial decisions.

"So what's your breaking point?"

"I can't explain it, it just happened naturally." Lu Jiyu picked up the Coke on the coffee table and took a sip. It was dark at night and no one could see each other clearly. Jiang Wan's rare conflicted look made him feel fresh. Perhaps this was her original appearance.

"Are you unhappy about this?"

"Not really."

"Okay." Lu Jiyu reached out and pulled the person closer to his arms: "I'm tired of kissing you, let me lean on you for a while."

Jiang Huainan came over early the next morning, and Jiang Wan was woken by the clanging noises outside. She and Lu Jiyu had chatted for a long time the previous day, and they finished the movie they hadn't finished watching last time. It was almost two in the morning when Lu Jiyu dropped her off.

Jiang Guan came out of the bedroom with sleepy eyes: "Why are you here so early?" If she remembered correctly, today's class should start in the afternoon.

Jiang Huainan was sorting out the paints he was going to use that afternoon. When he saw Jiang Wan coming out, he put down his things and asked, "Did I wake you up? Did you sleep very late last night?"

"Yeah." Jiang Wan nodded and walked towards the small kitchen in a daze.

Jiang Huainan looked at her, wanting to say something but stopping for a moment: "Your Aunt Chen is going out for a trip today. I will take her to the airport later."

Jiang Wan stopped halfway and looked at him: "Got it, I'll stay in the studio to help in the afternoon."

Jiang Huainan carefully discerned the expression on Jiang Wan's face. After confirming that she was not unhappy, he felt a little relieved: "I bought you breakfast and put it in the kitchen. Remember to eat it."

"Then Dad will leave first." Jiang Huainan rushed over so early in the morning as if specifically to tell Jiang Wan about this matter:

"Also, has the boy upstairs come back to live here? I saw some garbage bags downstairs."

"Probably." Jiang Wan was in the kitchen and touched the buns and soy milk that Jiang Huainan bought. They were still hot.

"Aren't you in a hurry? Let's go."

"Okay, okay." Jiang Huainan smiled, grabbed the car keys on the table and walked out.

Before Jiang Huainan went to pick up Chen Hong, he went back home first. He went to the mall last night to buy some cakes for the person to eat on the road.

When he drove to the downstairs of Chen Hong's house, the mother and son were already waiting downstairs.

Seeing this, Jiang Huainan quickly parked the car and got out to help the people load the luggage into the car: "Is Wu Lin going out too?"

"I just happened to need to go to the mall near the train station, and my mom asked me to give her a ride. I hope it's not too much trouble for you, Teacher Jiang."

Jiang Huainan smiled and waved his hands: "What's the trouble? We are all family."

After realizing that his mouth was faster than his brain, Jiang Huainan touched his arm awkwardly. It was Chen Hong who patted Chen Wulin and said, "Teacher Jiang is right."

The three of them got in the car and just as they drove out of the community gate, Jiang Huainan realized that he had left his phone at home. "Oh, look at my brain. I went back home on the way here and forgot to take my phone."

Chen Hong comforted him: "Then go back. You still have to take your phone with you, in case something important comes up."

"Then Wulin, please help uncle get it. The phone should be on the bedside table in my room. Uncle is too old to run anymore."

The car turned two traffic lights and drove into Lijin Garden. Jiang Huainan parked the car at the entrance of his building and turned to look at Chen Wulin.

"Okay, Teacher Jiang." Chen Wulin opened the car door and got out. Jiang Huainan handed him the keys.

Chen Wulin has been to Jiang Wan's house several times since he was a child, and the layout and style of the room have never changed over the years.

Jiang Huainan's room was diagonally across from the main door. Chen Wulin entered the room and went straight to it as he had instructed. He searched the TV cabinet but couldn't find it. Then he went to the two bedside tables and rummaged around. Finally, he found the phone under a newspaper.

Chen Wulin was about to leave.

The first drawer of the bedside table was torn open a crack. Chen Wulin took a look and was attracted by the contents. He subconsciously glanced behind him before opening the drawer and pulling out the photo.

It's a group photo.

The young man is Jiang Wan's uncle, Jiang Sheng. The person standing next to him, judging by her attire, is likely a young woman. They're intimately arm in arm. Why do I say "likely"? Because the woman's face in the photo has been completely gouged out.

Without time to process the doubts that were welling up in his mind, Chen Wulin took out his phone, quickly took a picture of the strange photo, and then carefully put it back in its place.

This dress, this woman.

When Chen Wulin went downstairs, he wondered if he had seen him somewhere before.

Zhou Zifang has been going to bed at two or three in the morning recently. When he asked Lu Jiyu to carry it to the mall at ten in the morning, he was so sleepy that his eyes were only half open.

But he dared not speak out.

After all, he made a mistake last time and almost took away someone's girlfriend.

"But do you think I can really be blamed for this? Who knew you two were so romantic and would use trumpets to flirt?" Neither of them had eaten breakfast yet, so they headed straight to McDonald's on the first floor as soon as the mall opened.

Lu Jiyu took a sip of the iced American coffee at hand and frowned. As always, he couldn't get used to this stuff.

"You didn't come to ask me for confirmation about this, but went straight to Jiang Wan to persuade him to break up? You really are my good brother."

Zhou Zifang also knew that he had gone a bit too far in this matter: "I wanted to ask you, but you are so eloquent, I was afraid of being fooled by you."

Lu Jiyu handed him the potato pancake and said, "It was you who told me to be on guard against Jiang Wan, and now it's you who's stabbing me in the back. Zhou Zifang, how many sides do you really have?"

"What do you mean by being multi-faceted? I'm a very principled person, okay? I side with what's right, not with my relatives." Zhou Zifang scratched his head. "Of course, it wasn't until Chen Meiyu accidentally told me about Jiang Wan that I finally understood."

"What's the matter?" Lu Jiyu glanced at him.

Zhou Zifan glanced around. "Chen Meiyu said Jiang Wan was a bit of a one-sided lover. That's why she has trouble forming intimate relationships with the opposite sex. So, she wasn't just playing with you back then. She probably couldn't overcome that psychological gap."

"By the way, do you know what unrequited love is?"

Lu Jiyu was looking down at his phone, ignoring Zhou Zifang. After he finished sending the message, he hummed, "Don't talk nonsense about this."

"Why would Chen Meiyun tell you this?" Lu Jiyu knew she was always tight-lipped. When they were traveling in Xinjiang, several girls of the same sex asked her about Jiang Wan, but she didn't say a word.

Zhou Zifang shrugged guiltily: "Didn't she break up with Wei Lin? Then she asked me out for a drink and got drunk, so I just asked her a few questions."

"Taking advantage of the situation?" Lu Jiyu gave him an "interesting" look: "You really are a—"

"I know, I know." Zhou Zifang cooperated with great self-awareness: "Beast, is that all right? So, when can you delete that post from your Moments?"

The last time Jiang Wan came to see Lu Jiyu, Lu Jiyu directly posted the chat history she sent on the circle of friends, which was only visible to the male friends in their circle.

The result was that Zhou Zifang’s WeChat was flooded with insults.

Now that the misunderstanding has been resolved, they still don't forget to tease him every now and then, making Zhou Zifang miserable.

"It depends on my mood." Lu Jiyu said this and stood up to collect the plates.

Zhou Zifang picked up his unfinished iced latte and followed him up the escalator. He hadn't forgotten why Lu Jiyu had asked him out today: "You said you wanted to buy some fishing gear?"

Zhou Zifang's father loves fishing and is quite knowledgeable about it.

"Why did you suddenly think of fishing?"

Lu Jiyu put his hand on the armrest: "It's not me."

"Jiang Wan wants to go fishing."

Zhou Zifang was shocked: "It's so hot, won't you die from the sun?"

Lu Jiyu said nothing, just lowered his head and sent a message meaningfully: "By the way, don't look for me when you play games at night. I have to go to bed and get up early recently."

"Why? You guys have to go fishing so early?" Zhou Zifang didn't understand.

The two of them went all the way up to the third floor. Lu Jiyu stepped down from the escalator: "Jiang Wan will start driving lessons next week. I'll take her there in the morning and pick her up to go fishing in the evening."

Zhou Zifang: ...

"Brother, it's summer vacation now. Shouldn't you be lying at home, enjoying the air conditioning and watching TV? What the hell are you guys doing?"

The two of them stepped into a fishing tackle shop. Lu Jiyu chatted with Jiang Wan while choosing fish: "I have to go abroad in August, and school will almost start when I come back. I want to spend some time with her this month."

Zhou Zifang asked a tactless question that only humiliated him: "What about me?"

"You?" Lu Jiyu thought for a moment: "Isn't the air-conditioned watermelon in the bedroom enough to satisfy you?"

"Shopkeeper!" Zhou Zifang raised his hand and beckoned someone over. "What are the expensive and impractical products in your store? Sell them all to this guy. He's bought them all!"
