Chapter 75
The dinner that was scheduled for the evening had to be cancelled because the counselor called an impromptu meeting.
There were a lot of things to do at the beginning of the school year. Everyone was busy choosing courses, clubs, and running for the student union. It wasn't until three weeks later that we finally had time to get together and go out for a meal.
Zhang Yang had been selected for the External Relations Department, which was busy trying to secure sponsorship for an upcoming campus singer's performance. After class, Jiang Wan and two others waited in the dorm for her return. After waiting for over an hour, Cao Qingzao lost his patience and was about to call to ask if the meal was still available.
The next second, Zhang Yang pushed open the dormitory door and came in with an excited look on his face.
"I'm sorry to have kept you waiting for so long. I just went to discuss a sponsorship and couldn't manage my time well." Fortunately, Zhang Yang's attitude was good enough. Although Cao Qing was dissatisfied, he quickly moved on.
"Wait a minute, I'll change." Zhang Yang opened the closet door and said as he changed his clothes, "We had been struggling to get our department to sponsor us today, but a friend of my senior happened to be here today, and we got it done right away."
"Is it so magical?" Qian Huan was unusually curious.
"He's a freshman in the computer science department. He's super handsome and very sensible."
Zhang Yang said as he was looking through his phone for photos: "I even secretly took a photo of him."
"Look, even though the photo is so blurry, it can't hide his handsomeness." Upon hearing this, Cao Qing immediately leaned over to take a look, and even Qian Huan, who had been silent the whole time, followed suit with a glance.
Only Jiang Wan sat in his seat motionless, looking completely uninterested.
Are you so calm?
Seeing this, Zhang Yang curled his lips slightly. Even if she is a beautiful woman, there is no need to act so arrogantly.
"Jiang Wan, do you want to take a look?" Cao Qing called her.
Jiang Wan, who was sitting in his seat looking at his phone, waved his hand: "Thank you, but no thanks, I'm dizzy handsome."
Zhang Yang was curious: "What do you mean?"
Jiang Wan smiled and said frankly: "Because I was hurt by a handsome scumbag before, I can't avoid him."
Everyone immediately smelled gossip and looked at each other, but after all, it was not long after the school started, so no one dared to ask too many questions.
For dinner in the evening, Zhang Yang found a Sichuan restaurant nearby, saying that it was recommended by her senior. The restaurant was doing quite good business, but when Jiang Wan and the others went there, there were no seats left.
The waiter came out and told them they would have to wait half an hour. They looked at each other, unsure of each other's opinions since they weren't familiar with each other. Just then, a boy came out of a private room and walked to the front desk. Zhang Yang's eyes lit up when he saw him: "Senior, are you eating here too?"
Senior Zhang Yang was talking to the front desk waiter when he heard someone call him, "Zhang Yang? Are you guys eating here too?"
Zhang Yang smiled shyly: "Yes, they are my roommates. But we came too late and there is no room left."
The senior's eyes swept over the other three girls without leaving a trace, then turned back to scan Jiang Wan's face, who was standing at the back. He pondered for a few seconds and said, "We're eating in the private room inside. It's not full. If you don't mind, why don't you eat with us?"
"I don't mind, of course I don't mind." Zhang Yang realized she had spoken too quickly. She looked at the three girls behind her a little embarrassedly: "What do you think?"
"Of course we don't mind," Cao Qing said with a smile. She and Jiang Wan walked at the back and said in a positive tone, "Zhang Yang likes this senior."
Jiang Wan stared at the backs of the two people walking in front: "Well, they are quite a match."
Cao Qing smiled: "You noticed it too?"
"She's almost as quiet and gentle as Zhang Daiyu. Anyone with eyes can see that."
Cao Qing laughed, and Qian Huan, who was walking in front, gave them a puzzled look.
"It's okay, it's okay, let's go."
This Sichuan restaurant is located near a university. Most of its customers are college students and parents who come to send their children to school.
The senior walked in front and led the way: "What a coincidence! The handsome guy you met today is here too. He's my junior's roommate. He's really handsome, but he's also really cold."
The door to the private room opened, and a voice called out from behind it: "Senior, I asked you to go get a few bottles of wine, what's going on? Hey, these girls are...?"
The boy who was talking was wearing a plaid shirt and a pair of black-framed glasses, the typical attire of a top student.
But everyone's attention was drawn to the boy sitting next to him.
Wearing a simple black T-shirt and black pants, he sat there expressionlessly, looking cold and out of place with the lively atmosphere in the box.
"By the way, let me remind you." The senior student lowered his head and said to Zhang Yang who was standing next to him: "This guy already has a girlfriend."
The sound was not loud, just loud enough for Jiang Wan and the others to hear.
Cao Qing understood what he meant and curled his lips: "It's so funny, they are still on guard against us."
Jiang Wan didn't say anything. She pulled up a chair across from Lu Jiyu and sat down. Senior Zhang Yang, who had been about to move a few seats forward, turned back and sat down next to Jiang Wan.
The other boys at the table suddenly laughed maliciously: "Song Huaian, is that your seat? Just sit there."
The smile on Zhang Yang's face froze, but fortunately Cao Qing came over and pushed her next to Song Huaian.
Whether it is a human or a ghost, you have to try it yourself to know.
"Song Huaian, you brought someone here without introducing them?"
Song Huaian showed a little embarrassment. He pointed to Zhang Yang on his right: "This is my high school classmate, Zhang Yang. The other three are her roommates."
"Jiang Wan, a freshman in the Department of Management Science and Engineering."
One person took the lead, and the others followed naturally.
After the girls finished introducing themselves, the boys followed suit and gave a brief self-introduction. However, when it was the handsome guy in black's turn, he remained silent. The atmosphere was silent for a few seconds. Just when Song Huaian wanted to say something, he spoke up: "Lu Jiyu, a freshman majoring in Computer Information and Technology, my hometown is Nanyuan."
"From Nanyuan? Hey, Jiang Wan, aren't you from Nanyuan too?" Zhang Yang turned around and asked, "Haven't you heard of each other?"
"have."
"No."
The two completely different answers made everyone else present smell something unusual.
The atmosphere at the dinner table was stagnant for a moment, and no one said anything. After all, they had just met and their feelings weren't deep enough to joke around. If they didn't manage their feelings well and things got awkward right at the start of the semester, it would be very difficult later on.
After all, Song Huaian was a grade older than them, and in such an awkward silence, he felt it was his responsibility to pass over the topic.
But the two parties still sat there calmly.
Jiang Wan picked up the teacup and took a sip: "Where have you heard of me?"
Lu Jiyu now sat up straight and looked at her: "I have classmates in Jiayuan, and you are very famous in Jiayuan."
"Ha, so that's what I heard." Song Huaian also breathed a sigh of relief. When he first heard them say that, he thought there was some past between the two of them. After all, he had feelings for this girl named Jiang Wan.
She has a beautiful face that is naive and ignorant of the world, and her eyes reveal a bit of straightforwardness and cunning that can't be concealed.
The first sight is the desire to protect.
Looking again is the desire to conquer.
This was just a small incident at the dinner table. After the dishes were served, everyone ate happily and gradually got over the initial awkwardness.
But not everyone enjoyed the meal.
For example, Zhang Yang next to Song Huaian.
She looks careless, but she is definitely smart and clever. When Song Huaian turned his head and asked Jiang Wan in a gentle voice for the third time tonight if she wanted some more drinks, Zhang Yang knew that Song Huaian was probably attracted to her new roommate.
All of a sudden, all kinds of emotions flooded into her mind, and even the delicious and spicy Sichuan cuisine in her mouth lost its taste.
The other person who was not so happy was naturally Lu Jiyu, who was sitting opposite Jiang Wan.
He didn't eat much during the meal and spent most of the time looking at his phone. Occasionally, when he looked up at others, his expression was extremely cold.
However, no one had any other thoughts about this, they just thought that this might be a common trait of a certain type of handsome guy - they don't like to talk to people but at the same time they keep people at a distance.
After the meal, Song Huaian went out to pay the bill with the waiter.
The rest of the people started chatting.
The guy sitting next to Lu Jiyu, who looked like a top student, was called Fang Cheng. He was quite familiar with Lu Jiyu and knew that he was not as difficult to get along with as he looked.
"Did you meet your girlfriend in high school?"
Fang Cheng wasn't actually too surprised when he learned that this guy had a girlfriend. After all, Lu Jiyu's face had already shocked him. It would be fine if he was just a top student, but a top student who looked like this would definitely be number one on the campus forum list.
"It doesn't count."
"What's the meaning?"
"We met a month before the college entrance examination."
Fang Cheng was surprised: "They got together a month before the college entrance exam? Where did she go to take the exam?"
"Also in the capital." Lu Jiyu shook the water bottle in his hand, lowered his head, and opened his unresponsive phone for who knows how many times.
When Fang Cheng heard that he didn't want to say more, he didn't ask any more questions.
On the girls' side, the girl named Jiang Wan suddenly stood up and said, "I'm going to the bathroom first."
As soon as Jiang Wan left, the topic of conversation naturally shifted to her.
"Hey." Another boy wearing glasses asked Zhang Yang, "Does Jiang have a boyfriend?"
Zhang Yang glared at him unhappily and said sarcastically, "We've only known each other for less than a day, how could you know so much? If you want to know, just ask yourself."
The boy with glasses was a little embarrassed by her retort: "Oh, I'm not asking for myself, I'm asking for you, your senior. Haven't you seen that Song Huaian's eyes are almost growing on him?"
"What's wrong? You're not jealous, are you?" Cao Qing on the side interrupted with a smile.
"I--."
Even a fool could tell that the girls were united in speaking out against the outside world, and if he continued to speak, he would only be asking for trouble.
Jiang Wan didn't come back until Song Huaian paid the bill and came out.
"Where is she?"
Cao Qing explained: "A friend of hers came to see her and might have been delayed, so she told us to leave first."
"Oh." Song Huaian nodded with some regret.
After finishing their meal, the group filed out of the restaurant, intending to stop a car at the intersection. Fang Cheng, who was walking in front, suddenly stopped, and Song Huaian, who was following behind, stepped on his heel without warning: "What's wrong?"
"Look, isn't that Jiang Wan?"
"Hey, who's that boy sitting across from her? Her boyfriend?"
Following Fang Cheng's two sentences, everyone couldn't help but turn their eyes to the bus stop across the street.
The platform was bustling with people, but the young man and woman standing in the middle of it stood out. Jiang Wan had her back to them, seemingly talking to the boy opposite, but neither their emotions nor their relationship could be discerned.
A boy on Fang Cheng's side seemed to recognize the boy sitting across from Jiang Wan: "He's from the University of Science and Technology next door, right? I saw him in the boys' dormitory when I went to visit a friend there before."
"He looks okay." Zhang Yang echoed from the side: "He can't be your boyfriend, right?" As soon as he finished speaking, he took a seemingly unintentional elbow from Cao Qing: "I don't think so. They don't look a good match."
Zhang Yang knew that he had said something wrong, so he just pursed his lips and said nothing more.
Everyone was gossiping and chatting, momentarily forgetting Lu Jiyu, who had fallen to the very back of the group. He stood at the outermost edge of the crowd, his hands in his pockets, staring at the two people across the street with the same expression as everyone else, but the emotion in his eyes grew stronger.
Fang Cheng, who was closest to him, noticed something was wrong with him and called out to him, but he didn't respond. He called out again, and he finally looked at him, but the look he gave him was so cold that Fang Cheng's heart skipped a beat.
"What’s wrong with you?"
"Nothing." The bus arrived at the stop, and the two men got on and left. Lu Jiyu also looked away.
Three weeks into the semester, Chen Wulin contacted Jiang Wan several times on WeChat, but Jiang Wan rarely responded. Unexpectedly, this time, he showed up at her school. Their school wasn't far from Jiang Wan's place; it was only five or six stops away by bus.
Chen Wulin came to Jiang Wan mainly to ask Jiang Wan for a favor: he needed someone to accompany him for a minor surgery. He had no relatives or friends here, and he wasn't close to his roommates, so he went to Jiang Wan.
Jiang Wan didn't refuse.
When Chen Meiyu called Jiang Wan that night, she also mentioned this matter.
After Chen Meiyun said a few words of concern to Chen Wulin, saying that he was fine, she changed the subject to another person: "Did you see Lu Jiyu?"
"Yeah." The other three girls in the dormitory were busy washing up. Jiang Wan opened the balcony door and walked outside. She stood in the corner, leaning against the railing and looking down. "I met him at dinner today."
"How is it?" Chen Meiyu's voice was a little nervous.
"Nothing, that's all." Jiang Wan was a little sleepy, and her voice was soft: "I still want to wait for him to tell me himself."
Chen Meiyun thought for a moment and said, "How about I go ask Zhou Zifang?"
"Do you think he will tell?" Jiang Wan changed his phone and picked up the call.
"How can you be sure that she has something to hide, Wanzi?"
"Didn't I tell you that the girl in the photo, Jin Jing, has been dating someone I know for a long time, and he likes girls."
After saying that, Jiang Wan glanced downstairs again. On the bench diagonally opposite the dormitory door, where the streetlight couldn't reach, a vague figure seemed to be sitting.
I sat there for a long, long time and didn't want to leave.
