Chapter 79
Although Jiang Wan had a feeling that Song Huaian's club's club day activities would not be very interesting, she waited until she received a text message notification - 8 o'clock in the evening, Linhai Bar, to watch the F1 race together.
Jiang Wan really wanted to ask if the president had any part-time job in this bar.
Even though she had a feeling it wouldn't be very interesting, Jiang Wan still wanted to go and have a look. That night, after dinner, she and Cao Qing returned to the dormitory and happened to see Zhang Yang there.
It's rare for her to be in the dormitory at this time.
When Jiang Wan and the others entered the room, Zhang Yang was lying on Qian Huan's desk. The two of them were probably talking about something interesting and giggling non-stop.
Zhang Yang heard the noise, turned her head, and looked Jiang Wan up and down without leaving any trace in her eyes: "Have you had dinner?" she asked casually.
"I've eaten. How about you guys?" Cao Qing also asked.
"Not yet." Zhang Yang shrugged and returned to his seat: "Qian Huan and I are just discussing what to eat."
I don’t know if it was some kind of convention that was formed from that moment on.
The dormitory was divided into two factions: Zhang Yang's faction and Jiang Wan's faction.
Seeing it was still early, Jiang Wan returned to her seat and planned to do some listening exercises before leaving. Zhang Yang had been observing her every move. When she saw Jiang Wan take out her computer and put on her headphones, she finally couldn't help but ask, "Don't you have a club activity today?"
Jiang Wan took off his headphones and looked back at her, without asking how she knew: "It's still early, I'll do some listening first."
"Actually, there's something I've always been curious about." Zhang Yang was silent for a while and then suddenly asked. Cao Qing, who was sitting in the same row with Jiang Wan, couldn't help but look back at her.
The dormitory was so small, there was no need for Jiang Wan to pretend to be deaf and dumb: "What are you curious about?"
"Why did you join this club?" Zhang Yang knew a lot about Jiang Wan both privately and openly, but she had never discovered any preference for racing in any of the dynamic information she had received.
Jiang Wan knew that some questions were no longer simple questions when asked, but questions.
She simply said, "Are you asking me if I joined this club because of Song Huaian?"
"No. I have no interest in him whatsoever."
Zhang Yang should have felt relieved after receiving Jiang Wan's denial. However, she was a strange person. Jiang Wan's decisive tone inexplicably made Zhang Yang feel humiliated. After all, Song Huaian, whom she had always regarded as her white moonlight for the past few years, was probably no different from A, B, C, or D on the street in Jiang Wan's eyes.
Zhang Yang smiled and said in a joking tone, "Ah, being beautiful is amazing."
Now even Qian Huan frowned.
Jiang Wan didn't expose the disdain and sarcasm in her tone, but replied directly: "I can't say that being beautiful is not a great thing. But I don't think any of the four of us in the dormitory got into this school based on appearance."
Jiang Wan had no interest in preaching, but it was not in line with her character to suffer in silence.
Cao Qing made a timely joke: "Zhang Yang, do you like Song Huaian because of his high GPA?"
"I--."
Cao Qing smiled: "Everyone should be honest. There's nothing wrong with liking good-looking people, but beauty isn't the only thing that counts in this world."
Qian Huan stepped in to smooth things over: "Zhang Yang, I'm starving. Why don't we go eat first?"
Cao Qing smiled and didn't say anything more. Everyone stopped talking at that point. Although there were some small complaints, it didn't escalate to a quarrel.
The bar is a bit far from the school and it takes ten minutes to get there by taxi.
Jiang Wan hadn't expected the traffic to get stuck at this hour. By the time she arrived at the bar, it was already 8:20, 20 minutes late. Song Huaian called her twice.
She called one back.
"I'm already at the door."
"Wait, I'll pick you up now."
There was a commotion on the other end of the phone, so Jiang Wan simply replied "OK" and hung up.
Technically speaking, this bar is a small bar. There's a circular bar counter at the entrance, surrounded by a few tables and chairs. When Jiang Wan arrived, the place was almost full, and the plasma TV in front of the bar was already showing a recap of the F1 qualifying session.
Seven or eight people were sitting in a group around the TV. They were probably all members of the club. Jiang Wan took a quick look and felt relieved when he saw no one familiar.
Today is Friday, and there are many people coming and going in the bar. When Jiang Wan was about to go in and sit down, a boy who came out from behind bumped his shoulder. Seeing this, Song Huaian raised one hand and circled Jiang Wan in the air.
This action looked particularly intimate in the dimly lit bar and in the eyes of people at other tables around.
At a table against the wall in the corner, a boy in a plaid shirt was complaining while holding a bottle of wine. The handsome guy sitting opposite him tried to comfort him perfunctorily at first, but later he fell silent, his eyes fixed on a certain point in front of him.
After Fang Cheng finished tearfully recounting his experience of being dumped by his girlfriend, he waited for Lu Jiyu to speak. He looked up, only to see a cold expression on his face. He turned his head and followed Lu Jiyu's gaze, "Oh my god, Song Huaian! That girl he's hugging looks familiar. Is she the campus beauty from Guanyuan? I noticed he was interested in her during our last meal, and he's already caught up with her? This guy is quite something."
"But speaking of which." Fang Cheng turned around and looked at Lu Jiyi with a gossipy look on his face, without any trace of the sadness in his eyes. "Everyone in the academy is saying that you have a crush on the beauty in the academy, right?"
Fang Cheng had known Lu Jiyu for so long, and Jiang Wan was the first person he liked his post, not only liking it but also commenting on it. Even more amazingly, Jiang Wan didn't reply to his comment.
A handsome guy of his level usually looks pure and innocent, and the slightest disturbance will inevitably cause gossip.
Lu Jiyu's silence didn't affect Fang Cheng's gossip. He continued to chatter on his own, "But everyone knows you have a girlfriend, so they've been quite critical of you, saying you're two-timing."
Having said this, Lu Jiyu's expression finally changed.
Fang Cheng was afraid of being beaten, so he quickly excused himself: "I didn't say that. They were the ones spreading it. I told you out of kindness."
Lu Jiyu just shook the glass in his hand and put it down: "The price is so high, and they are selling fake wine. How interesting."
"What?"
"Is this wine fake?" Fang Cheng had never been to a bar before. If Lu Jiyu hadn't invited him here today, he didn't know when he would have the chance to try it. So when he ordered the wine just now, he asked for the same glass as Lu Jiyu.
He took a sip as well, and tasted nothing but the smell of alcohol.
"Is it fake?" Fang Cheng was a little curious.
Lu Jiyu switched to a glass of lemonade, his eyes occasionally glancing at a corner of the bar before casually asking, "Why did you just say your girlfriend broke up with you?"
Fang Cheng was still immersed in his wine tasting: "Huh? Which one are you talking about?"
Lu Jiyu was speechless: "You were crying for a long time just now. Are you sleepwalking?"
Fang Cheng scratched his head sheepishly. "Actually, I've had three girlfriends, and I was the one who got dumped every time, so I don't know which one you're asking about."
"But you must have more exes than me, right?" Fang Cheng looked at him eagerly.
Lu Jiyu: You are really good at playing games. I am impressed by your show.
Jiang Wan is a little night blind.
She felt a little uncomfortable with the dim environment of the bar.
Song Huaian specially asked someone to reserve two seats on the sofa for them. Jiang Wan took a look at the not-so-spacious sofa, then turned to another boy sitting alone in the corner and said, "Hello, can we switch seats? I'm used to sitting on a chair."
The boy originally wanted to refuse, but he couldn't resist the burning gaze of the beauty in front of him, so the words turned into "OK" on his lips.
Song Huaian's mouth twitched, and he stared reluctantly at the boy who sat next to him.
The game was even more boring than Jiang Wan had imagined. What was even more boring was that during the game, even though they were separated by a coffee table, Song Huaian always found trouble to get up and come over to "take care" of Jiang Wan, sometimes pouring water, sometimes handing over a tissue box. This made everyone around them look at them with ambiguous eyes.
No one talks much, and only when they encounter an overtaking during the race will they exclaim in surprise.
Jiang Wan was really stuffy, so he got up and went to the bathroom under the pretext of getting some fresh air.
The washbasin in the restroom is between the men's and women's restrooms.
When Jiang Wan came out of the bathroom to wash her hands, Lu Jiyu was already waiting for her by the nearest sink. The overhead spotlight made it difficult to see his expression, but it also added a touch of vague tenderness.
Jiang Wan had a feeling that this person had dressed up specially today.
He wore a distressed, washed off-white cotton T-shirt, with a discreetly printed English name on the left chest. He wore a pair of loose, stone-gray jeans, and a pair of pure white sneakers. He was a cool, stylish guy, unassuming yet striking.
"Nice clothes." Jiang Wan shook the water off her hands and gave a fair evaluation. She didn't ask why he was there, and she didn't expect that not long after, she would wear this fine dress.
Lu Jiyu stood up and walked up to her: "Is Shanxi fun?"
Jiang Wan was stunned for a moment before realizing that he was trying to get an explanation for his unanswered comment: "Funny."
At the end, he added: "If you want to go, I can send you the guide."
Lu Jiyu lowered his eyes and looked at her: "Are you sure?"
Jiang Wan hadn't created the Shanxi travel guide either. Chen Meiyun had heard Zhou Zifang and his family had been there and planned to ask him for it. But the man, incredibly stingy, replied that he couldn't find it. Chen Meiyun had to make another plan, but the next day, the man inexplicably sent her a gorgeous guide. From scenic spots to precautions, it included every detail.
Chen Meiyun immediately murmured at the strategy guide: "Do you think Zhou Zifang could write this?"
Jiang Wan has always suspected that this strategy was written by Lu Jiyu, and now it has finally been confirmed.
“How long have you been writing?”
Lu Jiyu didn't intend to hide it: "Not long."
"Write until dawn?" Because Zhou Zifang sent the strategy guide to Chen Meiyu at five in the morning.
"I also did my homework during this period."
“Why don’t you just send it to me?”
"You won't reply even if I send it to you, so I might as well let Zhou Zi send it."
This seems to be true.
"I have to go back first." Lu Jiyu stood in front and blocked Jiang Wan's way. She leaned to the side, and Lu Jiyu shook his body and stood in front of her steadily again.
"I have something to tell you." There was a hint of urgency in his tone.
"Are you sure you want to say it now? Right here?" Jiang Guan pointed around.
She was right. If you were to reveal your true feelings at the door of a bar, it would be hard not to arouse suspicion, because the next second you would be handed a room card from a budget hotel.
"When you guys are done, I'll meet you at the coffee shop across from the bar."
"I really don't know. It will probably take some time."
"I'll wait for you." Lu Jiyu looked at her steadily.
"Really? You won't give up halfway this time?" Jiang Wan said this deliberately.
This sentence seemed to sting, and Lu Jiyu lowered his head: "No."
"It's up to you, but I can't promise I won't."
When Jiang Wan returned, the competition had ended and the award ceremony was being prepared.
Song Huaian looked a little uneasy. Seeing Jiang Wan coming back, he quickly stood up from the sofa: "You're back."
"Is it over? I'll go back first." Jiang Wan walked to the sofa and wanted to get her bag. Song Huaian followed closely behind her: "Are you leaving now? Actually, I still have something to tell you."
Several other boys Jiang Wan didn't know followed suit and said, "Yes, yes, President Song still has something to say, don't leave so quickly."
Well, Jiang Wan already knew what Song Huaian was going to do next.
Just as I was about to say "My boyfriend is waiting for me outside" -
Song Huaian grabbed her arm the next second: "Actually, do you know how I treat you——"
Before he could finish his words, Song Huaian fell to the ground. A wine bottle that flew from somewhere hit him.
A girl from the racing club immediately burst into a scream.
"You fucking bastard! You played with my sister, and now you're fucking teasing her again?" Not far away, the instigator, the older brother with tattoos all over his arms, ran over with a furious look on his face. He squatted down and grabbed Song Huaian by the collar, who still didn't understand what was going on, as if to check if he was dead. Suddenly, after he saw Song Huaian's face clearly, time went silent for three seconds, and then he blurted out, "Fuck, you got the wrong guy."
"Little brother, little brother, are you okay?" The eldest brother slapped Song Huaian's face not too gently.
"I'm not going to die, damn it."
Finally, someone nearby couldn't stand it anymore and said, "Should we, or shouldn't we call an ambulance?" If they kept beating him like this, he would be beaten to death even if he didn't die.
The ambulance arrived quickly.
When Song Huaian was pulled into the ambulance, the rescuer looked around and asked: "Who among you is a family member, or who can accompany you?"
The several club members who came with him didn't react, and even took a small step back. One reason was that they didn't have a deep relationship with him, and the other was that they were probably afraid of taking responsibility.
Jiang Wan, who was still standing in the corner, took a step forward: "Can I go?"
"Who are you?"
"He's an alumnus."
The ambulance took Song Huaian away in a mighty manner. Lu Jiyu had been waiting in the coffee shop for almost two hours. The clerk came over and politely reminded him that there was only half an hour left before the coffee shop closed.
Lu Jiyu raised his head and said thank you expressionlessly. After drinking the cold coffee beside him in one gulp, he was about to stand up when a shadow suddenly appeared in front of him.
"Long time no see."
A long-lost face appeared in front of him, blocking his way.
