Chapter 62 Slipped Away

After Reese's self-introduction, Eryi finally realized that the strangely dressed man in front of him had mistaken him for a priest.

Before she could figure out whether she should explain to him that she was not a priest, the blond-haired woman who had just left came back with a red-haired girl with twin ponytails.

The red-haired girl's clothing was obviously different from the other two. She was much cleaner, wearing a robe that reached her ankles. Inside the robe was a skirt with complicated patterns, which was obviously not suitable for moving in the forest.

Beverly raised her proud head. "Which deity are you a priest of? I'm going to Dragon Gorge Waterfall. Come with me, and I'll offer a large offering to your deity."

Eryi wanted to refuse at first, but when he heard the word "donation money", he couldn't help but ask, "How much?"

Beverly opened her mouth to count, then closed it again, rummaging through her body for a moment before saying, "I'm almost out of gold. How about magic coins? Ten unused magic coins."

"let me see."

Beverly took out a magic coin and showed it in her palm. Reese swallowed his saliva and said, "Now one magic coin can be exchanged for three gold pieces in the union. The price has increased recently." You have to know that Beverly only gave a total of one gold coin to hire the two of them. One gold coin is enough for the two of them to live comfortably in this small town and spend lavishly for a whole month.

[Reporting to the host, absorbing magic coins of this size will gain 100 energy points per coin.]

Honestly, compared to the crystal cores Eryi had accumulated one by one when she first arrived in the Doomsday Plane, this was a lot. But her recent windfall had inflated her spirit, and she looked down on the hundreds or thousands of energy points. She shook her head and said, "I'm not a priestess." She stood still, waiting for the others to leave so she could continue looking for a place to build her healing station.

"Do you think what I offered is too little? I only gave eight magic coins to the priest of the God of Light." Beverly was unhappy. If she wanted to refuse, she would refuse. What's the point of lying?

Determined not to mess up again, Beverly held back her temper. "Gather the aura of the element of light around you." Even though she was only a trainee magician, observing the gathering of elements was basic training, so it wasn't as if she couldn't even distinguish this. These people, claiming to devote their lives to serving the gods, each desired to consume and drink only the element of light, transforming themselves into luminous beings. The priestess before her looked much brighter than the priestess of the God of Light she had previously employed.

Jenny wanted to offer some words of advice, and Reese was just about to start the kind of flattery the priests loved to hear, but then she saw Eryi's attitude change, and he nodded in agreement, "Okay."

Beverly put the magic coin away with satisfaction. "I'll give it to you after I'm done." The last priest of the God of Light took the offering money first and ran away without completing the task. He couldn't do that again this time.

The adventurers retrieved items like map pointers and finally determined their direction after a long time. During this time, Eryi repeatedly asked Ling Lingba about the light element. Ling Lingba explained that the system needed to be restarted after reaching a B-level plane for the first time, and he remained silent.

The forest wasn't safe, and small monsters occasionally appeared, but were easily dispatched by the adventurers. The trainee magician occasionally took action once or twice, and her magic release went smoothly, though her accuracy wasn't great.

Along the way, Eryi inquired about this plane in subtle ways. Perhaps because priests held a unique position in this plane, the adventurers were more than happy to answer her questions, with the exception of the young magic apprentice who was reluctant to speak to her.

This world's mineral resources, particularly silver, are abundant, so the basic currency is based on a decimal system: 10,000 copper coins equal 100 silver coins, and 1 gold coin. Besides swords and magic, this world also boasts many other diverse creatures. Most peculiarly, the gods outnumber the species, and they divide up the land and its believers. This creates a bitter rivalry between the priests of the various gods, who frequently engage in violent clashes.

"So which god are you a priest of?" Beverly turned around and asked after hearing this. She was now lying on Jenny's back, saying that she couldn't walk anymore and wanted to be carried.

Eryi shrugged: "Maria?"

"A god I've never heard of. When did this new god come into being?" Beverly looked Eryi up and down: "Maybe you are his only priest, so you have so many light elements in your body." Eryi looked at her and didn't understand anything. Beverly had already determined that she was a country bumpkin priestess of a country bumpkin god who came from nowhere.

"Look." Reese took a few steps forward and then quickly returned, whispering to Beverly, "Is this your horse?"

Beverly looked in the direction Reese pointed and saw two white horses grazing leisurely, looking like they had excellent pedigrees.

"Aha." Beverly finally put on a smile on her face, which had been looking quite bad. She turned to Eryi and said, "If these two horses get agitated later, you have to calm them down."

"Oh my god." Witnessing this, Jenny closed her eyes, worried that this priest might get angry again like the last one. —I only serve my god, and you want me to appease a horse?

Eryi didn't mind it too much, but she didn't know what it meant to comfort a horse, so she opened the horse's information panel.

[Restless] Flashing

A closer look revealed a number of small wounds on the horse's body.

Beverly had already slipped off Jenny's back, put her magic carriage on the ground, and said to the two adventurers she hired, "Go and bring them back for me."

Reese and Jenny stepped forward, each ready to lead a horse. Eryi stood there, stunned as Beverly took out the miniature magic carriage, which, after she chanted a few spells, became the size of a normal carriage.

Eryi's surprised look satisfied Beverly's vanity. Her mood inexplicably improved, and she jumped onto the steps next to the carriage door with light steps: "Now that I have found my horse, we don't have to walk anymore from now on." As she said that, she shook off the mud on her shoes, then took out a small magic wand as long as her arm, pointed at her shoes and recited an obscure spell like a show of skill, and the mud that had been shaken off came back again.

"As the eldest daughter of the Anderson family, it's normal for me not to be good at this kind of life magic." Beverly said as a matter of course.

The spell Beverly chanted was clearly not in the same language as the one they used to talk to each other, but with the help of the system's translation, Eryi was able to understand its meaning. Beverly chanted: Renewed.

As Eryi and Beverly discussed the language of the spell, the two horses began to neigh uncomfortably. Reese and Jenny were unable to pull the horses back.

"Calm down!" Beverly shouted at Eryi. She was anxious and didn't want the two horses to run away again. But her voice didn't make things any better. After hearing her voice, the two horses became even more agitated, raised their front hooves, and began to neigh.

Eryi didn't know what skill to use to soothe the wounded horse, but seeing the injuries, she could only chant an intermediate healing spell towards it. Unlike in other planes, as she chanted the spell, Eryi could see a faint fluorescent light begin to gather from the surrounding area. It formed a circle in her hand and slowly fell onto the injured horse through her finger.

——Don't worry, it will be fine.

The spell, the meaning of which she had never known before, echoed in her mind as she recited it herself.

The wounds on the horses were slowly repaired by the light, and the [agitation] state disappeared the moment they received the healing spell. Both horses stopped neighing, and slowly walked towards Eryi, lowered their heads to her, and allowed her to caress them.

The trainee magicians and adventurers witnessed this scene and came over to watch.

"Is this how priests cast spells?" Reese asked in a low voice.

“It seems so.” Jenny replied.

"No big deal, I've seen this at home. It's perfectly normal," Beverly said calmly. "Yes, much better than the priests of the God of Light. My ten magic coins were well spent."

Because there are so many gods on this continent, there are many priests. However, coincidentally, none of these three had ever witnessed a priest perform a healing act. Simply because receiving treatment from a priest often requires faith in their deity. To compete for followers, they all share a common creed: no worship of multiple gods, no betrayal of their gods.

If you believe in the God of Light, you are unlikely to receive treatment from the priests of the Goddess of Life. Even if you do receive treatment, the effect will be much less.

Magicians usually do not believe in any gods. They say that if they are injured, they can just take the potions they mix themselves, and are unwilling to deal with those stubborn donkeys who only talk about God.

Adventurers, on the other hand, value their lives. They never know which deity the priest they encounter on their deathbed might worship; their faith is only expressed at the end of their lives. Furthermore, even if they believe in a deity, receiving healing treatment still costs a fortune, and adventurers would rather spend their money on wine and meat in taverns or upgrading their favorite equipment.

What’s interesting is that these people who do not believe in any gods can receive treatment from any priest as long as they pay enough money for offerings, although the effect is only 70% of that of believers.

Generally speaking, priests wouldn't offer blessings to non-believers, but they would sometimes secretly earn extra income. The Light God priest Beverly hired was doing this to earn extra money, and everyone knew it, but kept it to themselves.

The horse obediently allowed the adventurers to harness it to the carriage. Beverly then ushered Eryi into the carriage. Spatial magic had been cast on the interior of the magical carriage, making it appear much larger than its exterior. Unfinished snacks lay on the coffee table, and there was even a bathroom.

Beverly observed the expression on Eryi's face. Seeing Eryi once again stunned by this move, Beverly narrowed her eyes in satisfaction. She had gone to great lengths to trick this magical carriage from her mother; everyone on the road was amazed. Proudly, she drew her wand again and cast a spell on the carriage's door. The steps retracted automatically, and the door closed. With the doors closed, the carriage shrank even further, becoming a more convenient size for navigating the forest.

Not long after, the carriage stopped again.

"Are we there yet?" Beverly looked out the car window.

Several trainee magicians were gathered together, haphazardly drawing numerous incomplete magic circles on the ground. A lake could be seen in the distance, but there was no sound of a waterfall.

"Looks like we've arrived." Beverly said contemptuously, "You can't get in, these idiots." They were all her classmates.
