Chapter 1: Opening a Hotel in the Wasteland

Dust was everywhere, covering the sky. The world seemed to be covered with a veil. The hotel was located on an abandoned street, and the orange-yellow lights exuded warmth.

Gu Huaiwei hung up a sign that said "Open for Business" and pushed her non-prescription glasses guiltily.

Her slender figure was wrapped in a blue work suit. She walked back to the front desk in high heels and turned around with a business smile.

This is the first day.

The bell hanging on the door rang, clear and pleasant.

Gu Huaiwei opened the registration form, straightened her body and looked at the first customer of the day, trying her best to appear familiar and natural.

"Welcome, how can I help you?"

The men were dressed strangely.

He was wearing a gas mask, and only a pair of gray eyes could be seen through the mask, like a lone wolf in the grassland.

He was wearing a tight black military uniform, his cape covered in dust, and leather gloves and long combat boots that covered every inch of his skin.

He covered his abdomen with his hands, where there seemed to be a crack and a dark red mark.

Gu Huaiwei withdrew her curious gaze and did not delve into it any further.

She was mentally prepared for the special work here.

"Let me check in." The man's low and hoarse voice came from behind the gas mask.

Gu Huaiwei pointed to the charging panel.

King Room: 30 gold coins

Twin Room: 40 gold coins

Gu Huaiwei deadpanned, following the instructions in the employee handbook, and addressed the customer, "Please show your ID. Currently, the hotel only has king-size and standard rooms. Pay first, stay later. No credit or bargaining."

When he heard that he had to show his ID, the man tensed up and looked at Gu Huaiwei unhappily.

Why would they check identity for a store in a wasteland?

"Sir, please show me your ID." Gu Huaiwei repeated again, her voice gentle but unyielding.

The man moved slowly.

He clicked the screen on his arm, and under Gu Huaiwei's gaze, he hesitantly placed the screen on the instrument at the front desk for scanning.

There was only a "beep" sound.

The man's personal information appeared on the computer.

Name: Xiao Youqi

Gender: Male

Address: District 9

Status: Yellow

Seeing this "yellow" status, Gu Huaiwei paused.

She didn't quite understand what this meant.

Gu Huaiwei urgently reviewed the work rules in the "Employee Handbook". As for what was not written in the handbook, Gu Huaiwei didn't quite understand it.

Xiao Youqi was prepared for Gu Huaiwei to yell and extort more money.

If you are in a dungeon, any native who sees a non-green status will feel like they are facing a great enemy and call for guards.

But Gu Huaiwei just stared at the status bar.

Without saying a word.

Xiao Youqi approached the front desk, placed his large palms on the countertop, and said in a low, hoarse voice, "Miss, I need a king-size bed room.

I can pay you double the room rate if you allow me to stay."

After saying this, he moved his hand slightly, revealing a shiny gold coin.

Gu Huaiwei was blinded by the gold. Why would this man, who was so rich, stay in such a shabby hotel?

And in Xiao Youqi's eyes, her silent state was unfathomable.

Xiao Youqi's eyes darkened, casting a shadow under them, and he continued, "This is all the gold coins I have.

If you think it's not enough, I can send you the rest when I return to District 9."

Money is something outside of our body.

For Xiao Youqi, the most important thing now is to find a shelter before the radiation storm arrives at night.

Gu Huaiwei can wear no ventilator and only a thin white shirt, exposing her wrists, neck and calves to the air. In Xiao Youqi's eyes, she is very hidden.

You know, ever since the nuclear war broke out a hundred years ago, the sky was filled with yellow sand and the world turned into a wasteland.

Anyone living in the world must wear protective clothing and a ventilator whenever they leave the underground city.

Once the body is exposed to radiation, it will be infected, causing minor injuries or even mutations.

Those who are infected are not eligible to return to the dungeon.

Their fate will be to wait for death in a contaminated area with a shortage of supplies.

When Xiao Youqi left the dungeon and was doing a mission, he backstabbed his teammate for profit, but was counterattacked by his desperate teammates. His protective equipment was damaged, he was infected, and his oxygen was about to run out.

When he was at his wit's end, a strange old lady showed him the way and he found the hotel in the polluted area.

The word "Oasis" is written on the hotel.

With the mentality of giving it a try, he walked in and tried to find supplies and medical equipment.

Gu Huaiwei pursed her lips, handled the matter in a businesslike manner, pushed the room card out and refused to accept the extra gold coins.

"A king-size bed room is 30 gold coins. Here's your room card."

"You want me to stay? And you don't even raise the price?" Xiao Youqi raised his eyebrows, his tone rising slightly.

"That's right." Gu Huaiwei turned around and looked at him, her eyes curved. "When we open a shop to the public, how can we chase customers away? The prices here are open and transparent, and we won't charge customers a single extra gold coin."

Xiao Youqi responded softly, a look of inquiry flashing across his eyes.

Is this not a shady shop?

Those who open shops in the wasteland usually overcharge their customers.

Of course, "slaughtering customers" means literally killing the customers and selling the meat.

However, Xiao Youqi changed his mind and thought that it didn’t matter if it was a black shop, because he was best at robbing black thieves.

Gu Huaiwei led Xiao Youqi to the elevator.

During the process, Gu Huaiwei felt that Xiao Youqi was always looking at her from behind.

That look made her feel cold.

Could it be that this guest has been here before?

Gu Huaiwei still felt a little guilty.
