On the day of enrollment for freshmen at Tsinghua and Peking Universities, Lu Chi refused to be accompanied by his family. Instead, he carried a light sports backpack and had his driver, Xiao Li, take him to the school.
Pan Feng and Lu Yuanqing insisted on sending Lu Chi there no matter what. Pan Feng said, "Son, other children go to school with their parents. If you go without your parents, you'll be so lonely."
Lu Chi shook his head: "Mom, no need. Tsinghua and Peking Universities are only 30 minutes away from our home, so there's no need for parents to accompany us. Most of the people who come to accompany us are from other provinces or families from farther away."
