Chapter 52

Chapter 52

The smart door of the Star Crown Penthouse Suite slides closed silently, completely isolating the glitz and bustle of the restaurant below.

The only sounds in the cabin were the low hum of the energy core and the two people's slightly heavy breathing.

Almost at the moment the door was locked, Lu Cheng, who had been suppressed all night, turned around suddenly, like a trapped beast forced into a desperate situation. His scarlet eyes locked onto Lin Yao, and his voice suppressed the storm.

"What exactly is your purpose in coming to City A? Why would you go to a place like the Rotten Bone Forest?!" He took a step forward, his tall figure carrying a strong sense of oppression. "And why did you add my name to the list?!"

The continuous questions echoed like a barrage of cannonballs in the empty and luxurious suite.

Lin Yao seemed startled by this sudden outburst. Perhaps it was the aftereffects of the bottle of premium red wine, or perhaps the seemingly relaxed but actually cautious negotiation with Jin had drained his already sub-optimal mental energy.

There was a tiny crack in his usual, flawless mask of composure, a barely perceptible hint of impatience.

He didn't respond to Lu Cheng's questioning, nor did he even look at him. He just lazily walked to the large sofa that overlooked the night view of City A and sat down casually.

Silver hair scattered on the expensive velvet backrest. He leaned back slightly, his slender neck line tensed in the dim light. He closed his eyes, and his long eyelashes cast a small shadow under his pale eyes.

When he opened his eyes again, there was a hint of confusion in his blue eyes, stained by alcohol and fatigue, as well as a condescending scrutiny.

He raised his hand and gently pressed his temples with his fingertips, his voice lazily and unpleasantly sounding as if he was offended.

"What I just said down there..." He paused, as if recalling something, or as if deliberately emphasizing it, "It shouldn't be forgotten so quickly, right?"

He tilted his head slightly and finally looked at Lu Cheng, whose chest was heaving violently a few steps away. A cold and dangerous arc appeared at the corner of his lips.

"People who know too much usually don't live long." He repeated the warning from the restaurant word for word, his blue eyes like ice-cold stars. "Do you want to be that kind of person?"

Lu Cheng's whole body shook, as if he was pierced by an invisible ice cone, and the anger and questioning in his heart froze instantly.

He stood there in a daze, looking at the person on the sofa who was sitting in a lazy posture but exuding a deadly aura. A huge sense of sadness and bitterness suddenly surged in his heart.

He remembered that night in the ruins park, with the cold wind blowing, he rescued his enemy with hatred in his heart, and forced him to leave with a bloody kiss.

And what did Lin Yao do at that time?

He told him his most deadly secret - his identity as a visitor from another world - without reservation. If this secret were revealed, it would make him the target of the entire new world's pursuit, and he would be eliminated by any means necessary!

Yes... He, Lu Cheng, had known the "biggest" secret a long time ago, and he had long since crossed the line of "not living long".

A bitter laugh escaped from Lu Cheng's throat, thick with self-mockery and despair. "So... now that I know the biggest secret," he looked directly into Lin Yao's unfathomable blue eyes, his voice as hoarse as sandpaper rubbing against me. "How long can I survive in your heart?"

This sentence was like a thunderclap, striking Lin Yao's seemingly indestructible rational barrier without any warning.

His body, leaning against the sofa, stiffened imperceptibly for a moment. A rare flicker of genuine confusion crossed those blue eyes that always seemed to be strategizing and understanding everything.

How long to survive?

A day? A month? A year? Or...longer?

This question, which had never been seriously considered, was now thrown out so bluntly by Lu Cheng, like a stone thrown into a deep pool, causing chaotic ripples in the core of his precisely functioning mind.

Why had he done that in the first place? With his strength still weak, powerful enemies surrounding him, and his identity exposed, he'd exposed his greatest weakness to someone who was supposed to be his enemy? This was simply... utterly stupid! Absurd!

How could a being who possesses "soul control" and stands at the pinnacle of power in the old world have such a fatal mental "disorder"?

This perception itself is so outrageous that it is ridiculous.

Lin Yao's lips unconsciously curled up in a self-deprecating arc, as if mocking his own "mental disorder" at that moment. But the smile was short-lived, and he quickly forced it down, returning to a superficial calm.

However, the inner turmoil did not subside. Lu Cheng's question swirled in his mind like an unsolvable equation.

"Perhaps..." Lin Yao's voice sounded, with a vagueness and uncertainty that even he himself had not noticed, "It was the day when I... lost interest in you."

He gave an answer, a cruel and realistic one: interest was the yardstick by which he measured all values.

"So," Lin Yao's gaze refocused on Lu Cheng's face, with a hint of almost cold inquiry, "Now that you know this, do you still intend to stay by my side and passively wait for that moment to come?"

He seemed to be torturing Lu Cheng, but more like torturing himself, torturing the self who made the "mentally deranged" decision in the ruins park.

Lu Cheng was silent.

How should he respond? Reason told him that this was tantamount to courting disaster. He should turn around immediately and get as far away from this source of danger as possible!

But…his body had already made the most insane decision back at that aircraft docking station. He had followed along! Even just now in the restaurant, he hadn't chosen to leave!

He didn't have time to think it through, or rather, he didn't dare to think deeply about the deeper reasons that drove him to do all this.

A huge sense of frustration and anger towards himself washed over him. He was like a madman who, knowing that there was a murderer hiding in his house, locked the door and threw away the key!

"Yes! That's right!" Lu Cheng suddenly let out a childish, vexatious growl. He even stomped his foot hard, as if to vent his anger, causing the expensive metal floor to clunk. "That's exactly what I planned! What do you think?!"

This willful and childish behavior was completely different from his usual image as the cool and strong young master of City D. He was like a trapped animal that could only slap the ground with its claws when it was cornered.

Faced with such an out-of-control and even somewhat ridiculous Lu Cheng, Lin Yao was surprisingly not angry.

On the contrary, he leaned back on the sofa, looking at the tall figure who was stamping his feet in anger like a child. He was startled for a moment, and then a real, joyful smile, like a stream breaking through the ice in early spring, slowly spread across his pale face.

The smile grew deeper and deeper, and finally turned into a few low chuckles, like jade beads falling on a plate.

"Oh……"

Lin Yao lazily raised a finger amidst his laughter. Invisible spiritual threads instantly spread out, like the most flexible silk, yet with irresistible power, precisely wrapping around Lu Cheng's waist and arms.

Lu Cheng only felt a gentle but irresistible force coming at him, and his body was pulled forward uncontrollably. He staggered a few steps and finally fell on the sofa... no, he fell directly into Lin Yao's slightly open arms.

Lin Yao took advantage of the situation and closed his arms, loosely encircling the unsuspecting Lu Cheng. He lowered his head, his chin almost resting on Lu Cheng's shoulder, his warm breath, with a hint of alcohol, spraying on the other's sensitive earlobe.

"Hmm..." He made a satisfied, nasal sound like a lazy cat. His voice was full of laughter and a strange soothing feeling. "That's a very reasonable explanation."

He tilted his head and nuzzled Lu Cheng's hot earlobe with his cool nose. "I'm very satisfied."

The moment he finished speaking, Lin Yao raised his other hand and gently held Lu Cheng's stiff face.

Then, a kiss with a strong smell of alcohol was laid on her without any room for rejection.

This kiss was different from the teasing and comforting kiss outside the bathroom, and also different from the bloody and farewell kiss in the ruins park.

It is hot and lingering, with an indulgent and cathartic possessiveness, like a raging fire thrown on dry wood.

Lin Yao's tongue forcefully pried open Lu Cheng's teeth, carrying the mellow aroma of red wine and a dizzying smell of plunder, and he attacked him wantonly.

Their breaths mingled, the air thick with the scent of alcohol. In the dim light of the top suite, the cold and powerful Spiritual Master and the furious, uncontrollable Lightning Master, in a posture so intimate they bordered on biting, lost in each other's scent and chaotic heartbeats.

The questioning, threats, bitterness and confusion just now seemed to be temporarily burned away by this sudden, aggressive kiss, leaving only the most primitive and chaotic entanglement.
