Chapter 28: Xun Mo's Ruby
When Xia Cheng returned home, the living room was brightly lit, and He Qing and Xun Youdong were sitting on either side of the sofa.
Xun Mo was squatting in front of a transparent coffee table, wearing a light green cheongsam. When she heard her come back, she turned around, her curly hair shaking, and stretched out her hand to greet her, the ruby on her wrist shining brightly.
Xia Cheng was so attracted by it that she couldn't take her eyes off it. This string of rubies was undoubtedly better than the ones she bought. Even she, who didn't know much about it, could see that it was top-notch in terms of color, purity, and size.
"I'm back." Xun Youdong put down the tablet and turned off the financial news report.
"Mom, Dad, and Momo, why are you all back so early today?"
"It's ten o'clock, it's not too early, you came back too late." Xun Mo muttered, pulling at her cheongsam and turning around.
"How is it? Does it look good? My mom made it specially for me. Every year on my birthday, she makes one for me!"
Xun Mo's cheongsam was a green Xia Cheng had never seen before. It resembled fresh, tender grass sprouting after a heavy rain, its surface adorned with delicate floral prints, vibrant and lively. A white gauze shawl draped over the intricate buttons concealed the thicker part of her arms, revealing only a sliver of her slender arms.
Noticing Xia Cheng's gaze, Xun Mo turned around twice.
Xia Cheng smiled, reached out to hold her waist which was slightly tilted because she was not standing steadily, leaned close to her face, and tidied her messy hair.
"It really looks good. Mom's craftsmanship is really good."
This is sincere, mixed with a bit of envy.
It turns out that children with mothers can receive so much love.
Xia Cheng's birthday was in winter, January, and it was very cold. The food she had saved for the winter didn't allow her to have a grand birthday, let alone buy new clothes.
She wore clothes that her adoptive mother hadn't taken away, and she had worn them year after year after year after she had shrunk them down. Later, her birthday was simply combined with the Chinese New Year. Eating a bowl of hot clear soup noodles, an egg, and some shredded pork was the happiest moment.
At the first birthday party after returning to Xun's house, many uncles and aunts who were not familiar with Xia Cheng came to give gifts. Although most of them came to give face to Xun Youdong, Xia Cheng still felt that she could hold her head high. She had powerful parents. From then on, even if she wore beggar's clothes, people would praise her fashion sense.
But at this time, Xun Mo jumped out again, and with her delicate hands, she played one continuous piano piece after another.
"This is my gift to my sister. Welcome to our home!"
Xun Mo was wearing a beige long dress, and the light shone on her hair, making each strand distinct, holy and lovely.
Xia Cheng smiled numbly.
The host of this birthday party has quietly been replaced by Xun Mo.
Thinking of this, Xia Cheng pinched Xun Mo's cheek.
"As expected of Momo, she looks good in whatever she wears."
Xun Mo's brows twitched, she covered her cheek and backed away repeatedly. There were faint finger marks on the side of her cheek that was kneaded, but they quickly disappeared.
"you……"
"I'll make one for you on Chengcheng's birthday, too. What color do you want?"
Xia Cheng caters to He Qing's preferences.
"Blue, dark blue or light blue will do."
Xun Mo sat back on the sofa and became the coquettish little girl again, holding He Qing's arm and whispering to her.
The ruby necklace was revealed, and Xia Cheng stared at it.
"This... you bought it?"
"Of course not. This was sent to my home by classmate Xiaolin. He said it was a gift for me. It should be a birthday present."
Xia Cheng nodded and was about to go upstairs when Xun Youdong called her again.
"Chengcheng, your summer vacation has already begun. You said before that you wanted to learn something useful, so I asked Xun Sheng to arrange a position for you in the company. You can go there during the summer vacation."
He Qing's brows immediately furrowed.
"Chengcheng's injury has just healed. In my opinion, it's best for him to rest at home during the summer vacation."
"I'm going too! Mom and Dad, I want to go too!" Xun Mo pouted.
"You're only a freshman. Art majors require accumulation. Why don't you take classes during the summer vacation? I have a friend who knows a famous Chinese painting master. You can follow him and sketch." After he finished speaking, he looked at Xia Cheng again:
"Chengcheng, if everything is ok, please report to the company next Monday."
Xia Cheng is naturally happy to intern at a top 500 company in the country, which would be a great result on her resume.
Although this achievement was obtained through backdoor.
Next Monday? That conflicts with Chen Kelin’s schedule, Xia Cheng shook her head.
"I'm afraid not. I'm going on a trip with my friends next Wednesday. Is it okay to go later?"
"July, then."
Xia Cheng agreed and walked briskly back to her room. It was now Saturday, June 21st. Next Wednesday, the 25th, she and Chen Kelin could stay in Dongyang City for a few days before officially joining the company on July 1st.
Back in the room, she took off her makeup and lazily soaked in the bathtub. After coming out of the bathroom, her eyelids were drooping with sleep. She didn't even look at her phone. After drying her hair, she buried her head in the pillow.
Until the next Tuesday, Xia Cheng went out with her suitcase and did not meet Xun Sheng at home.
She originally suspected that Xun Sheng had tampered with her crutch, but now it seems that this person simply does not have the time, and his personality does not seem like someone who would do such a thing.
For some reason, she felt familiar when she saw Xun Sheng, as if she had met him many years ago. She also guessed that Xun Sheng was a person who was cold on the outside but warm on the inside.
Were they landlords and peasants in their previous lives? Had Xia Cheng, the landlord, been so oppressive that Xun Sheng completely refused to fall for her tactics?
Excluding Xun Sheng, Xia Cheng thought that Xun Mo was the most likely candidate, but had she ever touched her crutch?
Xia Cheng's mind was spinning like a rusty gear being lubricated. After a moment of pause, an idea finally came to her mind, and she thought back to the day when Lin Minghe came to her house.
According to Xun Mo's personality, she would rush in and find an excuse to take Lin Minghe away to continue playing games. Why did she silently search outside for so long before coming in to stop him?
There is definitely something fishy going on.
Xia Cheng narrowed her eyes, stood at the gate of the Xun family, and looked towards the stairs.
The crutch was thrown away immediately after she fell, even though the servant said it was disposed of as garbage. But how could she not know anything about it?
Thinking of the panic and pain of falling down the stairs, Xia Cheng wanted to beat up the person who pushed her.
On the most serious day, due to spinal cord concussion and temporary paralysis, her urination was abnormal and urine retention caused urinary tract inflammation. She had to take anti-inflammatory drugs for several days before she recovered.
If it really was Xun Mo, then she was going too far.
But without solid evidence, Xia Cheng couldn't directly expose Xun Mo. Even if she did, what would happen? Xun Mo would deny it, or cry and make a scene, and He Qing and Xun Youdong would be helpless against her.
