Chapter 86: Shot
Xia Cheng found it hard to imagine how Xun Sheng could come to find her with such a leg. How could she just leave him here when he came to save her, not to mention that she didn't even know the way.
There was no time to treat Xun Sheng's wound, so Xia Cheng could only hope that An Wuyu would not see the blood dripping on the ground at night. She stood up, grabbed Xun Sheng's arm, and lifted it to her shoulder.
"Stop talking nonsense. If you're worried about being a burden, just tell me. I'm strong and it's easy for me to carry you."
Xun Sheng couldn't describe how he felt. He was also worried about wasting time, so he stopped refusing and used Xia Cheng as a crutch. The two of them walked together in the direction he came from.
"This way." Xun Sheng had good eyesight and pointed in the direction of the right. The two of them took a few steps forward, and he pulled Xia Cheng again.
"Change it."
He discovered this road by following the broken grass branches along the way. The man just now also took this road. If he took this road again, he would definitely bump into him.
Xia Cheng did not hesitate and walked left with Xun Sheng.
I don’t know how long I walked, but my vision was still dim. Suddenly, I heard gunshots behind me, startled birds and they flew away. They rushed out from the trees and flew into the dark night.
"The man has a shotgun."
Xun Sheng reminded him that he had played this game in California before. "We have to move faster. He must be more familiar with this place than we are."
Having a hunting rifle means they often move around in the mountains, and even at night, we can easily catch up with them.
He lowered his head, unable to see his wound clearly. He gritted his teeth and pretended it didn't exist. He pulled Xia Cheng forward quickly, but every step he took was so painful that his teeth almost broke.
The night was as dark as ink, and weeds were overgrown. The grass stems were tough and tripped the two men to the ground.
Before landing, Xun Sheng held Xia Cheng in his arms and fell hard on the ground. The uneven ground had a lot of gravel, and with the weight of Xia Cheng on his body, his back was almost pierced.
"Let me help you up."
Xia Cheng held his arm.
“Click… click…”
There was a sound of hurried footsteps coming from the direction they came from.
Xia Cheng's arm stopped and Xun Sheng pushed her hand away.
"He's here, leave quickly."
Xia Cheng was only concerned about escaping for her life. She didn't know whether what An Wu Yu said was true or not. But at this critical moment, she looked at Xun Sheng, whom she once hated so much, and she couldn't see through his heart.
Why did he come? Didn't they hate each other?
She decisively let go of Xun Sheng's arm, turned around to look at his outline deeply, and left without looking back.

After Xia Cheng left, Xun Sheng felt relieved. He gripped the dagger tightly with his backhand. He didn't think he had much chance of winning when the other party had a gun, but at least he could buy some more time for Xia Cheng.
He found it ridiculous. When had he become someone willing to sacrifice his own life so that others could live?
The footsteps were getting closer and closer, and a blurry figure appeared in front of Xun Sheng.
The mining lamp shone directly on Xun Sheng's face. His pupils dodged for a moment, and then he opened his eyes and saw the black muzzle of a gun pointing at him.
It was an old hunting rifle, its original color obscured by red rust.
An Wu Yu had already put down his gun, but when he saw Xun Sheng, he raised it again.
"Where did you take Xia Cheng?"
"Oh......"
Xun Sheng got into a ready position, poised to strike. Even if he got shot, at this angle it would either be the lung or the shoulder, so he should still have the strength to stab the dagger diagonally into the kidnapper's neck.
But his idea failed to come true.
He saw a figure jumping up behind the kidnapper.
"I'm here!" A huge rock hit An Wu Yu's head as Xia Cheng roared. His gun was loaded, but he had no time to aim. After the gun went off, Xia Cheng groaned and fell to the ground.
Xun Sheng was quick-witted and quick-handed. He picked up a stone and started smashing it around again.
Seeing the kidnapper's head exploded and he collapsed to the ground, he threw away the blood-stained stone, picked up the hunting rifle in his hand, and limped towards Xia Cheng.
"How are you?"
Xia Cheng hugged her legs and couldn't get up for a long time, and her voice was hoarse when she spoke.
Xun Sheng reacted and realized that he had clearly heard a gunshot, so it must have hit Xia Cheng.
He lowered his head to look, but couldn't see anything clearly. His palm felt Xia Cheng's thigh, which was wet and smelled of blood, and his fingers trembled slightly.
A hunting rifle is very powerful and it can be very dangerous if it breaks a blood vessel, especially an artery. With so much blood being lost, the arterial branch must have been broken. Xun Sheng prayed that the femoral artery in Xia Cheng's leg was intact.
He lay on the ground, found a fairly sturdy wooden stick, and bent over like a turtle.
"Get on my back."
Xia Cheng shook her head.
"Your legs are also..."
"Come up quickly!" He said loudly, practically yelling. He had been fuming since Xia Cheng came back. Why was Xia Cheng always so opinionated? Why didn't she listen to anyone?
Seeing that Xia Cheng didn't come up, he reached out to pull her. A cry of pain came out of Xia Cheng's throat, and Xun Sheng's voice suddenly softened again.
"Come on up...okay?"
Xia Cheng tilted her body like a robot and climbed onto Xun Sheng's back.
The spaciousness and power there made her feel more at ease.
Xun Sheng stood up and threw the hunting rifle into the grass. He had checked and there were no bullets. He also took off the bullet bag from the kidnapper. It was very light in his pocket. It was difficult to buy bullets in today's society.
He was carrying Xia Cheng on his back. Although she was not heavy, he felt as if a thousand pounds were pressing on his heart, and he moved with a limp.
The blood from Xia Cheng's legs had seeped through his shirt.
He held Xia Cheng's hips with one hand. No one had time to be shy at the moment.
"It's so dark, how do you know the way down the mountain?" she asked with a pale face.
"I don't know. I just tried to get down the mountain as far away from the kidnappers as possible."
"Why are you looking for me, police officer?"
“They’re looking for it too.”
"Xun...Is Dad here?" she asked with a little hope.
Xun Sheng pursed his lips, thinking back to the night when he saw Xia Cheng sitting in a taxi on his way home. Then, Xun Youdong showed him the text message. It was because of that text message that he was able to come here according to Xun Youdong's description.
But Xun Youdong did not come.
Should he be honest?
Xia Cheng was a smart person. When Xun Sheng was speechless, she understood what he meant and stopped asking questions.
She remembered An Wuyu's words tonight. If Xun Youdong had really abandoned her, why was her identity as He Qing's daughter restored? Who was her mother?
Xia Cheng didn't say anything. Xun Sheng thought she had lost too much blood and was exhausted, so he started a conversation.
"Actually, I squatted outside the house for a long time, but there was no signal here, so I couldn't call the police. I didn't dare leave because I was afraid something might happen to you." As he spoke, he pushed aside the weeds. The hillside was sloping, so he had to be more careful and his speech slowed down.
"I only dared to come in after I saw the kidnappers leave. I was very scared when I came in."
"Why are you scared?" Xia Cheng tilted her head, her hair buried in his collar, making her feel itchy.
"I'm afraid you'll die." Xun Sheng suddenly smiled.
"But it really hurt when you hit me."
