Chapter 93: Memories with Wan Lu (VI)

Yu Jinhuan walked him to the doorstep and left. He didn't dare to go in for fear of being gossiped about.

Xia Cheng didn't dare let him in as there was someone else at home. She watched his back disappear around the corner before unlocking the door. After entering the yard, she carefully locked it again.

"Boyfriend?" A cold voice sounded beside her ear, giving Xia Cheng goose bumps. She took two steps back to defend herself, covering her chest with her hands.

"Why are you getting so close to me!" She didn't understand why a married man would always smile so intimately at her. Their relationship was just based on interests.

"If I speak loudly, others might hear me. I'm afraid you'll feel embarrassed."

"There's nothing to be embarrassed about. You're even more shy than me."

Seeing the distance between them widened, she felt relieved.

"Stay away from me from now on. Don't get so close to me."

"Hate me?"

"almost."

Wan Lu seemed to have heard something new, and smiled with narrowed eyes. Like a bad fox, he followed Xia Cheng into the house.

"No one has ever said that to me."

"hehe."

"Why do you hate me?"

As soon as one foot stepped into the room, Xia Cheng closed the door mercilessly. Fearing that he had bad intentions, she simply used her ultimate move and said somewhat against her will:

"Because you're too ugly. You're not my type. It's disgusting to look at you."

"Huh..." Wan Lu sucked in a breath of cold air, as if it was the first time he heard such words. He wanted to ask again, but was turned down because the door was closed.

"Haha, hahahahaha!" Huang Yiqiu's completely unrestrained belly laughter came from behind.

He tilted his head and pointed at himself in disbelief.

"Am I ugly?"

Huang Yiqiu covered his mouth and didn't answer his question, laughing so hard that tears were about to come out.

"I knew that sooner or later someone would be annoyed by your fake smile. I didn't expect this girl to say it directly. It's so funny, hahaha!"

Wan Lu covered his head and shook his head for a moment when he saw his sister laughing so happily.

"Laugh, I won't help you wash clothes."

"Oh, my dear brother~ You are the most handsome man in the world!"

Before Xia Cheng went to work, she bought a lot of adult diapers and baby formula.

At the beginning of July, Xia Cheng just put on his canvas bag and walked into the yard, and saw Wan Lu walking around his bicycle, stopping and starting.

"What for?" she asked unhappily.

Wan Lu pinched the flat rear wheel, took out a rusty air pump from behind the door, and threw it to Xia Cheng.

"How do you know there's..."

“I saw it when the door was closed.”

Wan Lu closed the door and looked at Xia Cheng from afar, smiling gently, like a young wife waiting for her husband to come home.

"Let's go."

But when Xia Cheng looked closely, she could see that the muscles around his lips were clearly stiff and his eyes were as cold as ice.

She shook herself, pumped up her bicycle, and then went to the milk tea shop in town.

There were many people in the newly opened store. Even though I had memorized the recipes in the past three days, I was not familiar with them and could not keep up with the progress. The store manager sent me to wear a doll costume.

The salary for wearing a doll costume was twenty yuan higher, so Xia Cheng went without much hesitation. He was so busy the whole morning that he felt like he had been fished out of a river. Water droplets could be squeezed out of his black work clothes.

Fortunately, the doll costumes were worn in turns, giving her time to hide in the back and rest. However, it was too hot in the back and she couldn't stand it anymore, so she ran to the front and used an electric fan to blow on her collar.

There are several summer interns in the milk tea shop. One of them is from the same village as her. They have played together since childhood. Her name is Liu Jingfang.

Seeing that her face was very hot, Liu Jingfang secretly handed her the cup and winked at her.

When Xia Cheng opened it, she saw a small cup of iced buckwheat water. She didn't know where the ice and buckwheat water came from.

Xia Cheng did not let her down and drank it all silently. He felt that his blood pressure and heat had dropped a lot. After washing the cup, he returned it to her.

The milk tea shop provides lunch, but the meal time is very short, only twenty minutes, and the service is arranged in order of priority.

The two of them changed shifts before they sat down to eat together. The lounge was a warehouse with no windows and no electric fans. The two of them were sweating while eating chili peppers and drinking a cup of ice buckwheat with swollen mouths.

"Where does buckwheat come from?" Xia Cheng asked.

"My dad brought some back from working outside, saying it lowers blood pressure. He gave it to my grandfather, but he couldn't get used to it, so he gave it to me." Liu Jingfang took another spoonful of chili. "Wow, this chili sauce is awesome."

Although Xia Cheng likes spicy food, she can't handle it very well. She gulped down a big mouthful of buckwheat and was punched twice by Liu Jingfang.

"You actually drank it all! Aaaaah!"

"I'll go get it, I'll go get it."

"Add some ice, don't let the manager see!"

"OK." Xia Cheng washed her face, sneaked into the workshop with the cup, and handed the cup to Xia Yangyang who was shoveling ice.

The boy filled a big bag for her.

No one paid attention to them because everyone did the same thing, using ice secretly.

Xia Cheng was walking back with the cup, but bumped into an unexpected person.

Yu Jinhuan was playing games in an internet cafe with his new girlfriend. He'd heard there was a new milk tea shop in town, so he decided to stop by. He hugged his girlfriend and whispered a few words to her, then ordered a medium cup. Unexpectedly, he looked up and saw Xia Cheng in her work clothes. The words on his lips became two large cups.

But Xia Cheng didn't notice him and walked away with his head down.

Yu Jinhuan shook his hair and called her.

"Xia Cheng."

Seeing Xia Cheng turned around, his expression changed immediately. He was a little proud of his influence and simply said to his employees:

"And one for her."

When Yu Jinhuan's girlfriend saw this, she glanced at her face. Her pretty face made people feel a little unhappy, so she immediately asked, "Who is she?"

"A sister from the village."

Yu Jinhuan whispered in her ear: "She's the one who proposed to my convulsive cousin. Her family has no descendants. I just feel sorry for her."

Xia Cheng saw the two of them whispering and laughing about something, and after a while they both looked at her, looking unhappy.

"I don't want to drink, you guys drink it."

She walked quickly to the lounge, blocking their sight.

So Yu Jinhuan changed his words: "Just a medium cup."

The girl in charge of taking orders heard their teasing and felt a little annoyed by these two chatterboxes. She poked the screen and smiled sweetly for a while.

"Sorry, the order has been placed and cannot be changed~"

Xia Cheng only stuck her head out after Yu Jinhuan left. She put on her doll costume again and stood outside for two hours on and off in the afternoon, leaving get off work on time.

As soon as I got home, I drank all the cold boiled water, and even felt that the usually hot little house was much cooler.

Huang Yiqiu didn't have any tears and had recovered well. Wan Lu helped him get out of bed. Seeing Xia Cheng's buffalo-like appearance, she could smell the sweaty odor before she even got close to him. She was surprised for a moment:

"Are you so tired?"

Wan Lu handed her a piece of paper, his brows curved, "Wipe it off."

Xia Cheng shook his head, thinking that this was much easier than going to the fields to plant rice seedlings.

"I'm not tired, just hot. I've sweated a lot today. I'm going to take a shower first."

She fled to the simple bathroom like a flash, feeling somewhat reluctant to see Wan Lu because he was too handsome and had a strange smile. She always felt that this man was not serious, as if he was wearing a hypocritical mask.

She still remembered that after helping Huang Yiqiu deliver the baby, she took a plastic bucket to wash away the bloodstains, but she saw Wan Lu there. He was carefully scrubbing the bloodstains on the road, trying to avoid making too much noise. It probably took him the whole night.

Unexpectedly, when she woke up the next day, she saw Wan Lu making chicken soup.

This man should love Huang Yiqiu very much, but he has no good face towards the child born by Huang Yiqiu and almost ignores him.

Moreover, when Huang Yiqiu was not around, he would always come closer to talk to her for no apparent reason, and even noticed things like her bicycle had a flat tire.

It's really scary.

Xia Cheng looked at herself in the mirror. She had a small, oval face, hair that just reached her collarbone, and a not-very-full chest. Her muscles were strong yet lean from constant labor, her legs were straight, and her skin had a healthy color because it never got tanned.

Even though many people had praised her looks since she was a child, Xia Cheng had never been so conceited as to think that Wan Lu would fall in love with her, not to mention that he had a wife and children.

Xia Cheng thought that he was trying to please her by living here, but she also felt conflicted. Would a person who was supposed to please her burn the host's quilt or kill the chickens raised by the host?

The answer is of course no.
