Chapter 98: Memories with Wan Lu (XI)
The heat was so severe that there wasn't even an electric fan. Frogs were croaking by the river. Wan Lu, who was completely dry, sat on a bench.
After a while, he heard some noise outside, followed by a light cat meow. Xia Cheng poked her head out and pushed open the door. Seeing her holding a cane, Wan Lu laughed.
"Let's eat."
She brought water and dry food, and skillfully prepared milk powder for Guoguo. Huang Yiqiu was also very hot, and half of his body was damp.
However, if you hold on a little longer, you can go back.
After they finished their meal, Xia Cheng was reluctant to leave. She was a little afraid to go back.
Wan Lu found a torn fishing net and fish hook under the bed and hooked his lips.
"You can have more food."
"What if someone sees me when I go fishing?"
"Who said we can fish now? We have to wait until dark when no one will be around."
"There's no bait."
Wan Lu was sorting out his fishing nets and stomping his hands on the ground.
"There's plenty in the soil."
A few minutes later, Xia Cheng understood what Wan Lu meant.
Wan Lu opened the door a little, stood at the door, and directed Xia Cheng to dig earthworms.
Although I'm not afraid of it, it feels slippery and a bit disgusting.
She threw it all to Wanlu.
At night, when it was dark, Wan Lu picked up a bamboo pole and went fishing in the small river near the duck shed.
It’s not easy to fish. I didn’t catch a single fish in half a day.
Xia Cheng ran back and lit a mosquito coil. She was about to be bitten to death. Isn’t Wan Lu afraid of mosquitoes?
She walked over and saw a mosquito bite on his face. Subconsciously, Xia Cheng reached out to slap it. With a click, Wan Lu's eyelids twitched.
"Even if I never catch anything, I won't be that angry."
"There's a mosquito on your face!"
"Bait!"
Wanlu was happy and put away his pole.
Xia Cheng cried out and wanted to go over to help, but with a snap, the bamboo pole that had become brittle due to the sun fell into the river with the fish hook.
The two looked at each other.
Xia Cheng went down to the river to fish.
Wan Lu put his hands under Xia Cheng's armpits and pulled him back to the shore.
"No, I'm just fishing for fun."
Xia Cheng paddled in the water with her toes and splashed onto his face.
"Tsk, I don't think I can catch any fish. Sorry."
"When I was in California, I won the fishing championship!"
Xia Cheng continued to splash water onto his face.
"Where is California? Did you make that up?"
Wan Lu put the man down, wiped the water droplets off his face, and lifted the hem of his clothes to wipe it.
In the dark night, Xia Cheng saw the strong waist and hid her blushing face.
"Are you shy?" Wan Lu chuckled, moved his face closer, and admired her embarrassment.
"Do you want to touch it? You've probably never been in a relationship, or touched a man before."
Xia Cheng pushed him. As a person who had been doing rough labor since childhood, Wan Lu was very strong. One of his feet sank into the mud and was trapped, and he sat straight back.
The water suddenly exploded, and on the shore, Xia Cheng stuck out her tongue.
"Serves you right! Hooligan!"
Wan Lu climbed up, pulled Xia Cheng into his arms, picked her up and hung her upside down, as if he was going to throw her into the water, but he did not loosen his grip, and Xia Cheng's head was only ten centimeters above the water.
"Ahhh! Wanlu! Let me go!!"
"Are you sure?"
As soon as he loosened his grip, Xia Cheng fell straight down.
"No! Don't let go!"
"Are you still laughing? Huh?"
"Don't laugh anymore, don't laugh anymore!" She hugged his thighs and sobbed in apology, her soft little hands frantically groping around. "I was wrong, Boss Wan, let me go!"
Wan Lu snorted, picked her up again, held her in his arms, supported her buttocks like a child, and walked towards the shore.
Xia Cheng was afraid that he would throw her into the water, so she wrapped her legs tightly around his waist, clasped her hands around his neck, and smiled secretly as if she had survived a disaster.
Drops of water dripped down Wan Lu's trouser legs.
He raised his eyes and saw Huang Yiqiu hiding behind the door, putting Xia Cheng on the ground.
"Stand still."
Xia Cheng stood still obediently.
"Your fishing rod has floated back."
Wan Lu looked back and saw that the fishing rod had already swung to the other side of the river.
Looking at Xia Cheng again, she was probably afraid that he would abandon her again. After a snort, she climbed up the river bank and walked towards home.
Wan Lu shook his head helplessly.

The villagers went to bed early, so Xia Cheng returned home in the dark.
When I woke up the next day, the remaining rice was there again.
This time, Xia Cheng pretended to think it over carefully, then said resolutely, "Why don't you ask the village chief if there are any other people in our village with small eyes, about your age."
"Come with me." Yu Xia Mi pulled Xia Cheng's arm.
Of course Xia Cheng couldn't go, she had to deliver food to Wan Lu.
But Yu Xia Mi grabbed Xia Cheng's arm and pulled her over.
When they arrived at the village chief's house, Yu Jinhuan ran out and protected Xia Cheng, preventing Yu Xiami from touching her.
Yu Xiami pointed at his head angrily. Xia Cheng didn't know where he got the confidence from, so he simply told her what happened that night. He kept something to himself and said that he didn't see the face of the person who helped him clearly, and he might be a stranger passing by.
The village chief tried to smooth things over, saying that Xia Cheng was an orphan and Yu Miduo was a scoundrel, and everyone saw it.
Yu Mi felt uncomfortable because he was being blamed.
"Maybe you're hiding a man at home. I heard a man talking at your door the other day!"
Xia Cheng was shocked. She didn't expect someone to eavesdrop. She finally understood why Wan Lu wanted to move to another place. It turned out that he was afraid of being a burden to her.
She straightened her back immediately.
"What nonsense are you talking about!"
"I'm not kidding. I saw it through the crack in the door. You have a tall man at home. Otherwise, why would you lock the door tightly? You're afraid someone will see you having sex!" Yu Xia Mi laughed sarcastically. "Why are you pretending to be innocent?"
Xia Cheng's shoulders were shaking with anger.
Yu Jinhuan gritted his teeth.
"Yu Mi! Not only do you mess around all the time, but now you're slandering people!"
Yu Xia Mi glanced at the two of them.
"If I'm slandering you, just go to her house and you'll know. She guarded the door so tightly just now, there might be another man in the house."
Xia Cheng lowered her head and was so angry that she almost laughed.
The mothers-in-law and aunts who were watching didn't know whether it was true or not, and kept silent.
She walked out of the village chief's house angrily.
"Come on, then come with me and see if there is a man in my house!"
Yu Xia Mi rolled his eyes and followed Xia Cheng. Behind him, there were a few silent villagers who came to watch the fun.
Yu Xia Mi is a relative of the village chief, so others can't say anything. Even the village chief remains silent. Xia Cheng feels cold in her heart and bites her lips tightly.
After bringing the person to the front door, she took out the key from her pocket.
Several people squeezed into Xia Cheng's house, a low bungalow, the most dilapidated in the village, and even the ground was not leveled.
I looked around but didn't see anyone.
Yu Xiami spoke again.
"Humph, I'm afraid he heard the noise and ran away."
He was a seasoned man who tried to divert the topic of his harassment of Xia Cheng by suspecting her. Xia Cheng was inexperienced at the time and only wanted to prove herself, so she was fooled by him.
The village chief waved his hand and asked everyone to leave.
The onlookers dispersed, and Xia Cheng realized later that Yu Mi had bullied her that day, but no one said a word for her.
That's right, she is alone, so even if she is bullied, no one will bother to help.
"Xia Cheng, are you okay?" Yu Jinhuan looked at her unhappy expression worriedly.
"It's okay." Xia Cheng shook her head. "Brother Huan, you go first. I'll be alone."
