How am I supposed to respond to that? Zuo Qingya was at a loss for words. Did they think that people on land were mermaids with legs?
"Huh??? Because I'm a half-cursed mermaid, I can still breathe underwater."
The mermaid slapped her forehead. "Oh, so that's how it is! I thought you were the third generation of mermaids!"
"A third-generation mermaid? Are there even such fish?"
The mermaid nodded. "Yes, I am the first generation of mermaids. The humans on land are the second generation. And you are the third generation!"
Zuo Qingya was speechless. "Is that even possible?"
Zuo Qingya could only give an awkward smile.
"Since you can breathe underwater, you must be a third-generation one."
"Okay, okay, say whatever you want."
The mermaid looked Zuo Qingya up and down. "But hey! What's wrong with your skin? Why is it so dark?" she said, showing off her own skin. "Look at my skin, so delicate and silvery-white, while yours is so dark, it's kind of scary. Don't you take care of it? Is that why it's so dark?"
What business is it of hers if I'm unattractive? Is it wrong for me to be unattractive because I like it? Is it wrong for me to be unattractive because I'm beautiful? Is it wrong for me to be unattractive because I'm healthy?
"Actually, you're alright. Hey, my name is Torurata, what's yours? What's your name?"
"What's your name? My name is Zuo Qingya."
"Zuo Qingya? Zuo Qingya is a nice name, but not as nice as mine."
Zuo Qingya rolled her eyes. "Your name sounds nice, but mine doesn't, okay?"
"You're the first person I've ever met! Want to come over to my house? It's a lot of fun!"
"I don't want to talk to strangers."
"What stranger? We've exchanged names, we're not strangers anymore, we're good friends now!"
Hearing the mermaid's accent, Zuo Qingya asked curiously, "That Torurata, right?"
Torurata nodded. "That's right, I am Torurata!"
"Your accent sounds a bit like a Taiwanese accent. Have you ever lived there?"
"Taiwanese style, I know, you mean that sweet potato island? I've been there!"
"Why has this accent changed again? Why does it sound a bit like a Thai accent now?"
"No, no, that's just a normal accent!"
As they talked, Zuo Qingya noticed that it sounded a bit like the accent of Page Island. "Torula Tower, may I ask which places you've been to?"
Torurata waved his hand and said, "I've been everywhere! The ocean is so big, right? Of course I've been everywhere!"
"Okay, then. You've been there, so be it. I have another question. How old are you now, Torurata? I've heard that mermaids live much longer than us humans on land."
Torurata proudly declared, "I should be considered one of the longest-lived among you humans now; I'm over five hundred years old!"
"Over five hundred years old?" Zuo Qingya was shocked. Over five hundred years old? What kind of concept is that?
"A hundred years ago, it was so noisy up there, it woke me up." Torurata said, making a gun gesture. "This is it, bang bang bang... It was so noisy!"
"Oh, you're not talking about war, are you? It does seem like it's been over a hundred years!"
"Oh, I wanted to go up and help too, but unfortunately I don't have legs!"
"Two legs? Aren't there wizards among you mermaids? I've heard that wizards know some strange potions, and if you drink them, your tails can turn into two legs."
"How could there possibly be such a drug! If there were, I would have run up to land and played with you guys long ago. After all, isn't it lively up there? Down here, there are nothing but fish."
"Uh??? That makes sense!"
"Everyone says your land is fun, you have everything, good food, fun things, like: those lollipops, so sweet and delicious, and what's that? Stinky tofu smells bad, but tastes good, and what's that? Spicy strips? I've eaten them, I even paid for them, and I've been on land before. Although there are snack vendors at the beach, I secretly went and took some, and I even gave them a pearl as payment. But I can only stay on land for a minute, because as soon as I'm on land, I get dehydrated and feel like I can't breathe. I always find my target and go straight up there. Also, you humans like to eat barbecue at the beach, and after you finish eating and leave, I just go up and grab it, and run away. It doesn't even take a minute, just a few seconds."
Zuo Qingya was somewhat impressed, "They would actually do something like this for food."
"It's okay! Do you want to come to my house to play? I have lots and lots of fun things at my house."
"What's fun?"
"Anyway, there are a lot of fun things to do, do you want to go or not!"
Zuo Qingya thought for a moment and said, "I will definitely go. After all, you are the first mermaid I have ever met in this world. I must go and see your home."
"That's more like it, let's go then!"
"Okay, you go first, I'll follow behind you."
"Oh dear, I'll carry you now. You swim so slowly, I'm afraid you won't be able to keep up."
"Okay, then you can carry me!"
"Then we'll be leaving now."
When they arrived at Torurata's place, Zuo Qingya was somewhat surprised to find that it was inside a cave.
It's quite fun; it's all trash that Torurata picked up himself.
"Look at this slide, isn't it fun?"
Zuo Qingya nodded numbly, "It is quite fun, but you are so big, and the slide is so small. Are you sure you will have fun?"
Torurata waved his hand, "Oh dear, now that the spiritual energy has revived, I've grown bigger. It's really bothering me. I didn't live in this cave before; I used to live over there." Torurata pointed to the small hill over there.
"That, that, that is it. There's no way to get in now. I can only stay outside. It's so frustrating. It's gotten so big. It's inconvenient to do anything. Before, one fish was enough to fill me up, but now I have to eat several."
Zuo Qingya felt a little sorry for Torurata!
"But don't worry, I'm in a good mood."
Zuo Qingya looked Torulata up and down and nodded, "Indeed, her mentality is really too good."
"Would you like to hear me sing? I sing really well."
Zuo Qingya asked curiously, "Is your singing the kind that's ethereal and goes straight to the soul?"
Torurata proudly patted his chest, "Of course! I sing really well, do you want to hear me sing?" As he spoke, a howling sound came out of Torurata's mouth.
Zuo Qingya remained silent.
