Chapter 21 Something happened to Tai Jiye?
Who would come to your house in the middle of the night in the wind and snow? It's obviously not a good thing!
He turned around and ran into the house, shouting at the top of his voice.
"Grandpa, Grandpa, someone is knocking on the door!"
The old man stood up immediately, and Tai Jizu and Tai Jizong dropped their work and picked up the bolt and wooden stick behind the door.
The cold wind in the dark night was particularly biting, but no one cared and quietly sneaked out.
Tai Yonglu and Tai Yongyue wanted to go and watch the fun, but Tai Yongning grabbed them one by one and held them tightly behind his back.
Tai Yongan also protected his mother, sister and aunt.
It's not that the whole family is timid, it's just that there was an incident before, when bandits came into the village in the middle of the night, pretending to be in a hurry and knocking on the door, but once they entered the yard, they started robbing and killing...
Fortunately, not this time.
The courtyard door opened, and a middle-aged man, his face blue and purple from the cold, spoke shiveringly.
"Uncle Tai Liu, I'm Zhang Tieniu from Zhangjia Village next door. I saw your third son in the city today, and I wanted to talk to you."
"Oh, it's Tie Niu! Come into the house quickly. It's so cold, why are you still traveling at night?" The old man quickly pulled the middle-aged man into the house to keep warm.
This guy's father has known him since childhood and they get along well.
To get to the city from Zhangjia Village, one has to pass through Taijia Village, so you can occasionally see it in the summer and it feels very familiar.
Zhang Tieniu walked into the house and chatted with everyone. As soon as he sat down, his stomach started to growl.
Seeing this, Yang Lihua and Liu Dongniang went to the kitchen without the old man's instructions and heated up a large bowl of leftover porridge from dinner and added two steamed buns.
After all, they came to report the news, and it would be bad to let them go hungry.
Zhang Tieniu blushed. These days, everyone was short of food, and it was a basic rule not to eat at other people's houses.
But he had been running around in the city all day and had to walk back in the snow at night. He was really cold and hungry.
So, after a few polite words, he started eating.
He actually poured the scalding hot porridge directly into his mouth!
Zhuzhu lay in her grandfather's arms, her mouth wide open in fear, and she kept gasping for breath.
The old man was amused and gently touched his granddaughter's soft hair.
After Zhang Tieniu put down his bowl and chopsticks, the old man asked, "Tieniu, did you see my third son in the city?"
"Yes, yes, Sixth Uncle. We were really struggling to make ends meet, so I carried two baskets of charcoal from the autumn fire to the city to sell in exchange for some food.
"When I walked into a small alley, I saw a man with a bruised face and nose, limping into a yard. He looked exactly like your third son.
"I wondered if he was being bullied, and his family didn't know about it. So I hurried over and came over to say a few words."
The Tai family all looked unhappy, but Yang Lihua was quick-witted and asked what kind of jacket and trousers the man was wearing. It was indeed the same as when Tai Jiye left.
Needless to say, Zhang Tieniu did not recognize the wrong person!
Old Master Tai tried his best to calm himself down and keep Zhang Tieniu.
"It's too dark outside, let's stay here tonight."
"No, no, Sixth Uncle. I just drank some porridge. I'd like to go home quickly while I'm still warm, so that my family won't be worried about me and can't sleep." Zhang Tieniu refused and stood up to say goodbye.
The old man didn't insist and asked his second daughter-in-law to pack two pounds of sorghum rice as a thank you gift.
Zhang Tieniu declined several times, but finally took it and went home in the wind and snow.
Silence returned to the room and everyone looked at the old man.
The old man puffed on his empty pipe a few times before saying, "No matter if the man who got beaten is Jiye or not, we have to go to the city to take a look. This kid is not doing well, but he is still our kid after all. We can't just ignore him."
"Dad is right, let's go into the city tomorrow morning!" Tai Jizu immediately agreed.
He is the eldest brother and cares more about his younger brother.
Yang Lihua took her daughter in and saw that the fat girl's big eyes were half open, obviously she was sleepy.
She was still a little worried, so she asked, "Dad, can I take Zhuzhu with me to the city? We have some extra money at home now, and I want to ask a doctor to check Zhuzhu to make sure she doesn't have any underlying illness."
The old man nodded immediately, "Okay, let's take this opportunity to show Zhuzhu a good look."
Tai Yongan was eager to try after hearing this and wanted to follow him into the city.
But Tai Yonglu and Tai Yongyue got there first. They each hugged their grandfather's arms and begged desperately.
"Grandpa, take me with you. I promise not to run around, I promise to take good care of my sister, and I promise not to cause any trouble!" "Grandpa, there's me, there's me! I've never been to the city before, Grandpa, take me to open my eyes!"
The old man was worried about his son and didn't want to waste time talking to his grandchildren, so he said, "If you want to go, go ahead. If you don't obey, you'll never be able to come to the city again!"
Tai Yonglu and Tai Yongyue immediately cheered and ran around the room excitedly.
Tai Yongan glared angrily, but in the end he didn't fight with his brothers.
After all, his parents, grandfather, brothers and sisters were all gone, and his second brother had poor legs and feet, so he wanted to stay and help his uncle and aunt...
Early the next morning, the Tai family had finished breakfast before the sun even rose above the eastern hill.
Zhuzhu was placed in a large wicker basket on the sled, with hay and a torn mattress at the bottom of the basket, and the thickest quilt in the house covering the outside of the basket.
Tai Yonglu and Tai Yongyue pulled the sled rope and ran in front.
The old man and Tai Jizu and his wife followed behind, and were drenched in the faces and heads by the blowing snowflakes.
Zhuzhu lay on the edge of the basket with her eyes exposed. Seeing her grandfather and parents in such a mess, she couldn't help giggling.
Bei Feng diligently spread the laughter, and after hearing it, the old man and Tai Jizu and his wife felt a little relieved from their originally heavy mood.
