Chapter 13 Diefang and Wenxin

My name is Diefang.

I was born into a relatively wealthy family, but there was no cultivator in my family.

My father always hoped that I could cultivate immortality.

He then sold everything he owned, borrowed money from all sides, and used his connections with various cultivators to eventually send me to a sect called the Crouching Dragon Sect.

Everything changed the moment I touched the stone tablet used by the sect to test the talents of new students.

When a long-haired male cultivator called my name, I trembled as I walked toward that door, that door of fate that would determine whether I could stay and protect the sect.

I came to this stone tablet. The person in front of me, because he hadn't activated a strong enough light, was destined to be unable to cultivate immortality and went down the mountain.

Perhaps this person has had other extraordinary experiences, but for me, this is the only lifeline I have after falling into darkness.

I was so excited yet fearful that I dared not look directly at it. I closed my eyes and reached out to touch the stone tablet with both hands.

When I touched the stone tablet, I felt a sudden heat before my eyes, but my hands felt warm. After a long while, I opened my eyes, and all I saw was a cultivator with his mouth agape, wide enough to swallow a duck egg.

"Young lady, wait here and don't move. I'll go and relay the sect leader's message," the long-haired man said excitedly.

Have I passed? Have I passed? Have I passed? I kept asking myself these questions.

Not long after I arrived, I saw a man with a full beard. He flew here, and the wind he created almost blew me over.

He looked at me with excitement, and then led me into the Wolong Sect.

Soon after, I became familiar with the Wolong Sect. I met three good girlfriends. One of them loved asking others questions, and when she did, she'd launch into a long, drawn-out series.

One of my best friends loves looking in the mirror and is always praising her appearance. Both of my best friends come from influential backgrounds, while mine is quite pathetic.

As for the other people in the sect, they all seemed a bit strange.

I thought I could continue cultivating, find a reliable Daoist partner, get married and have children, and then live an ordinary life.

Until that day, the day my fate changed.

The person looking in the mirror is called Jingjie, and the person asking the question is naturally called Wenxin.

With a subtle hint from the thorn, Wenxin and I headed to the forest for our training.

In the end, they were surrounded by the sect leader's son and a group of experts.

We were both beaten and looked extremely disheveled.

I could guess what would happen next even with my toes; I was already contemplating suicide and accepting my fate.

It wasn't until my master appeared that I realized something was wrong.

Something's wrong with the catnip.

After we were safe, I thought about it some more...

It's likely that Jingjie made some kind of deal with the sect leader's son, tricking her and Wenxin into going there.

What is she after? What is she after?! What could Jingjie possibly want from us?!

Then I thought again, she was taken in by the sect leader, and all of that, plus the fact that I and Wenxin were almost as talented as her...

He and Wenxin were only inner disciples and did not yet have a master...

She then thought of the female disciples who had mysteriously disappeared before, all of whom had interacted with Jing Jie...

Then he thought of Jingjie's astonishing cultivation speed, far surpassing his own and Diefang's, as well as the strange quirks of the other true disciples in the sect.

Heretical sect! Demonic sect!

The sect I joined was... a heretical sect that masqueraded as a righteous and respectable one.

He wanted revenge...

I'm so glad I met my master, and he even gave me a chance...

The kindness of my master... I can only repay it with my whole life.

My name is Wenxin. I was born in this great world of cultivation. My family has been cultivating immortality for generations.

There are countless geniuses in the family, and as the eldest daughter, I should have been well cared for, but I was only spared because of my talent.

My talent is average, or so the clan elder in my family says.

But I've fantasized that my talent is bound, as if sealed away.

My mother named me Wenxin, mainly because I love asking questions. She originally intended for me to be named Renxin, but because of this quirk of mine, she changed it to Wenxin.

I once asked my mother why the clan chief favored my younger siblings so much, but I felt like I was an insignificant presence.

My mother's answer was very tactful. She said it was because the clan chief liked children, and I was already grown up.

A few years later, I understood why: because I had only average talent. But as I grew older, I felt more and more that something was holding me back.

This feeling is getting stronger and stronger.

One day, my mother said, "Let me go to the Wolong Sect. I want to join the Wolong Sect, become someone's disciple, and then strengthen the relationship between my family and the Wolong Sect."

I already knew everything, but what good is it?

The day arrived for the talent test at the Wolong Sect.

I was in the back of the line, and my future best friend was in front of me.

She lacked confidence, and I had absolutely no confidence either.

She went there, and the Talent Monument shone brightly. I could only tell myself in secret, "Your existence is only for the sake of the relationship between the family and the Crouching Dragon Sect."

After the Wolong Sect took her away, it was my turn.

I timidly approached the stone tablet and cowardly reached out to touch it.

I saw that male cultivator looking at me with expectant eyes, as if hoping that I could have the same talent as her. I wanted that too, but I disappointed him.
